What will the students learn at Otago Polytechnic, New Zealand?
Students will study “Technical English” to improve their practical English, and select three practice-oriented specialized subjects in the field of science and engineering. Before going abroad, they will have interviews with instructors to determine which subject is most suitable according to their wishes and academic level. In New Zealand, they will learn alongside local students. This will give them a broad perspective and help them to understand a different culture, in addition to improving their knowledge and skills. In the last phase of their time in New Zealand, students will participate in an internship at a company, or engage in project activities related to a regional problem in order to develop their problem-finding and problem-solving skills.
What kind of school is Otago Polytechnic, New Zealand, where students study abroad?
Otago Polytechnic, located in Dunedin, in southern New Zealand, is the oldest polytechnic in the country. It has about 7,000 students and 600 instructors. The school offers a wide range of subjects, including business, IT, engineering, art, beauty care, culinary science, architecture, and gardening. Classes are based on practice and theory, and designed to give students a high level of expertise. Students from as many as 27 countries attend, and the school has received the highest rating from the government for higher education institutions, including New Zealand’s eight universities.

It is known as an academic city that attracts many students not only from New Zealand, but also from all over the world. Students make up 15% of the city’s population of 120,000. In an area settled by immigrants from Scotland, there are many beautiful European-style buildings. Moreover, the area is blessed with abundant nature; you can see rare wild animals such as albatrosses, penguins and fur seals in Otago Bay.
Does the school have a good track record of sending students to Otago Polytechnic?
Our school has been carrying out its overseas study program for 14 years, since the establishment of a cooperation agreement with Otago Polytechnic in 2002. We provide students with support such as consultations with regard to home stay life, to ensure that their study-abroad experience is a good one.
Where do students home stay in New Zealand?
Students live with designated host families and attend the school. If necessary, we can arrange for a change of host family through discussions with local consultants in New Zealand.
After their return from New Zealand, do students live in specified apartments? Are there single rooms?
Before the students return from New Zealand, we will allow them to choose from a listing of apartments affiliated with the school. This will allow for a smooth transition when they return.
Most of the apartments are the one-room type.
