９月２６日、１年生によるSTEMフェアが白山麓キャンパスで開催されました。STEMフェアは夏休みの研究成果をポスターセッションで行う発表会です。白山麓キャンパスの先生が学生の発表を聞くためにぞくぞくと会場に集まりました。

今回のSTEMフェアでは、学生は自分のポスターの前に立って、先生は歩き回って学生の発表を聞いていました。ほとんどの先生がひとりずつ学生を訪れるので、学生は自分の発表を複数回行う必要がありました。結果として、回数を重ねるごとに発表の内容が良くなっていきました。

ポスターセッションというスタイルは、気軽に発表者と話せるという特徴があります。先生が皆違った見解で学生に質問をしたり、提案をしたりするので、学生は考えたり、より詳しい説明を強いられていました。これも内容が改善された理由だと思います。

ポスターセッションのあと、表彰式が行われました。大賞以外に、各STEM科目の先生の賞があり、合計６人が表彰されました。STEMフェアを計画した伊藤周先生は、学生の研究の内容が自分の「期待の頭上を飛んだ」と話しました。表彰を受けた６人の学生は、高専祭でもう一度研究の成果を発表します。

On September 26, Hakusanroku campus held its STEM Fair for the first-year students. The STEM Fair is a poster session style event where students give presentations on the projects they worked on during the summer break. The Hakusanroku faculty gathered in the conference room to listen to the students' results.

Each student stood in front of their poster as teachers walked around to listen to their presentations and ask questions. Since most teachers approached the students' posters one by one, the students had to explain their project multiple times. As a result, they became significantly better at their presentations as the session went on.

Poster sessions are different from regular presentations in that viewers can ask questions and comment on the presentation more casually. Each teacher had different perspectives, questions and suggestions about the students' projects. This forced the students to think and give deeper explanations, which prepared them for the next visitor.

After the poster session, there was an award ceremony. There were grand awards in addition to individual awards from each STEM course teacher to a total of six. Ito sensei, who was in charge of the event, reflected that the quality of the students' presentations "flew over his expectations." The six awarded students will give their presentation again at the Kosen-sai (school festival).
