こんにちは。校長の鹿田 正昭です。
　2024年4月25日（木）、昨年に引き続き、エンジニアリングデザインⅡA（2年生）アグリビジネス班の「紅はるか」の苗植えをお手伝いしました。昨年は校長室から畝づくりをしている様子が見えたので、興味津々で現地に向かいました。今年の3月に退職した山崎 俊太郎先生から「来週は苗を植えますので参加しませんか？」とお誘いがあり翌週に参加しました。
　今年は松下 臣仁先生から事前に日程を伺っていたので、4月18日（木）の畝づくり（見学のみ）と4月25日（木）の苗植えに参加しました。苗植え前日の4月24日（水）は激しい雨でしたが、当日は快晴に恵まれ、気温も20度くらいあって、苗植えには最適の天候でした。
　昨年は東側から3列目の苗植えを行いましたが、今年は西側の1列目をラーニングメンターのドミソン・アブワン先生と一緒に植えました。1年ぶりでしたので松下先生に植え方を確認してから行いました。ドミソン先生と二人で行ったのでスムーズに植えることができました。
　2年生の「エンジニアリングデザイン」では、アグリビジネス班は「紅はるか」を栽培して農業法人の経営ビジネスに取り組み、テック班（※1）はAIを活用した獣害対策システムを開発しています。昨年は猛暑による水不足が影響し例年よりも収穫が少なく、サツマイモも小ぶりのものが多い結果でした。
　テック班は獣害対策を、アグリビジネス班は生育状況の把握を万全にし、今年は「紅はるか」がどのように育つか楽しみです。そして、11月3日（日）、4日（月）に「道の駅瀬女」で行われる予定の焼芋販売が今から待ち遠しいです。
本校では11月3日（日）にオープンキャンパスを開催します。この日に参加される方はお時間があれば、ぜひ道の駅まで足を伸ばしてみてください。

Engineering Design IIA (2^nd year) Beniharuka Seedling Planting Challenge

 Hello. I am Masaaki Shikada, ICT President.
 On Thursday, April 25th, 2024, I assisted in the planting of Beniharuka seedlings, as I did last year. Last year, I could see the digging process from the president's office, so I headed to the field with great interest. Shuntaro Yamazaki sensei, who retired in March of this year, asked if I would like to join in planting the seedings. I joined the following week.
 This year, Omihito Matsushita sensei had told me about the schedule in advance, so I participated in digging rows for planting on Thursday, April 18th (observation only) and the planting of seedlings on Thursday, April 25th. Although it rained heavily on Wednesday, April 24th, the day before the seedlings were planted, the day was blessed with clear skies and a temperature of about 20 degrees, perfect weather for planting seedlings.
 Last year, I planted the third row of seedlings from the east side, and this year I planted the first row on the west side with learning mentor Domyson Abuan sensei. It had been a year since I had planted seedlings, so I checked with Matsushita sensei on how to plant before I started. Since I was working with Domyson sensei, we were able to plant the seedings quickly and easily.
 In the Engineering Design IIA (2^nd year), the Agribusiness Team is managing the operations of the Beniharuka business by cultivating and tending to the Beniharuka while the Tech Team (*1) is developing an AI-based animal damage prevention system. Last year, the harvest yield was less than usual due to the lack of water caused by the extremely hot summer, and many of the sweet potatoes were smaller than usual.
 The Tech Team is working on measures to prevent animal damage, and the Agribusiness Team is fully aware of the growth conditions, and I am looking forward to seeing how the Beniharuka will grow this year. I am now looking forward to the baked sweet potato sales scheduled to take place at Sena Roadside Station on Sunday, November 3rd and Monday, November 4th.
 The ICT will hold an open campus on Sunday, November 3rd. If you are planning to attend on this day and have the time, we are looking forward to seeing you at Sena Roadside Station.

（※1）テック班について
　白山麓キャンパスの地域課題の一つに農作物に対する獣害があります。テック班は猿による獣害対策を進めており、現在では自然の中でも猿を認識できるシステムの開発を進めAIを用いた認識信頼度を90%以上まで向上させるまで至っています。昨年は、AIが猿を認識した際に生産者が所有するスマホのLINEアプリに通知を送る機能の開発・検証、更にドローンによる威嚇効果も検証しました。
　今年度はドローン以外の畑を守る手段として、畑の見回りロボット（ローバー）の開発のために畑の上（不整地）を走れる車体の製作、ドローンを自動運転させた際の着陸精度の検証、ドローンやローバーを運用するために畑の状態（特に天気や風）を確認するシステムの開発に取り組みます。

(*1) About the Tech Team
 One of the local issues at Hakusanroku Campus is the damage caused by animals to crops. The Tech Team has been working on measures to prevent damage by monkeys. They have developed a system that can recognize monkeys in nature and has improved the reliability of recognition using AI to over 90%. Last year, the team developed and verified a function that sends a notification to the LINE app on the smartphone owned by the producer when the AI recognizes a monkey. The Tech Team also verified the effect of drones on the threat of monkeys.
 This year, the Tech Team is working on the development of a robot (rover) for patrolling the fields as a means of protecting them other than the use of drones. This rover can drive over the fields (uneven terrain). The team can verify the landing accuracy when the drone is flown automatically. The Tech Team is also developing a system to check the field conditions (especially weather and wind) in order to operate the drone and rover.

　こんにちは、2年生の中村 栄太です。2024年4月6日（土）、鳥越の桜並木と天狗橋の桜を自転車で見に行きました。去年も自転車に乗っていましたが、実際に自転車に乗るのは、およそ4か月ぶりでした。白山麓では冬になると雪が降り、道路が滑りやすくなるため、冬季は自転車での走行を避けていました。今回のライドは、春休み明けに学校に戻ってから初めてのライドでした。私は3月31日の夕方に学校に戻りましたが、地元では桜を見ることができませんでした。31日の朝に地元の桜並木に行きましたが、ほとんど桜が咲いておらず、今年はもう見られないのかと思っていました。今回、白山麓で桜を見たときの天気は良く、風も心地よかったです。帰りに手取峡谷に寄って帰りました。前日は雨が降っていなかったため、水量はそこまで多くありませんでしたが、一つの滝から虹が見えました。
　今回は全体で約40㎞のライドでした。桜を見に行ってよかったと思いました。最高の一日でした。

  Hello, I'm Eita Nakamura, a 2^nd year student. On Saturday, April 6^th 2024, I rode my bicycle to see the cherry blossoms along the roadside in Torigoe and by Tengu Bridge. Although I rode my bike last year, it had been about four months since I last rode it. In HAKUSANROKU (Foothills of Mt. Hakusan), it snows during winter, making the roads slippery, so I tend to avoid biking during that season. This ride was my first since returning to school from spring break. I went back to school on the evening of March 31st. But couldn't see any cherry blossoms in my hometown. When I went to the local cherry blossom avenue that morning, hardly any had bloomed, and I thought maybe I wouldn't get to see them this year. However, the weather was great when I saw the cherry blossoms in HAKUSANROKU, and the breeze was pleasant. On the way back, I passed by Tedori Gorge. Since it didn't rain the day before, the water level wasn't very high, but I could see a rainbow from one of the waterfalls.
 This ride totaled about 40 kilometers. I was glad I went to see the cherry blossoms and it was an amazing day!

　こんにちは！白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。白山麓キャンパスでは新入生を迎えて1か月が経ち、学生も教職員も新たなキャンパスライフに慣れてきた様子です。さて、今回は4月上旬に行われた様々なオリエンテーションについて紹介します。

 Hello! This is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku Office. It has been a month since new students came to Hakusanroku Campus, and both students and teachers are getting used to their new campus life. This time, I would like to write about the various orientations held at the beginning of April.

【アイスブレイク】

　2024年4月1日（月）、入学式終了後、さっそく1、2年生合同のアイスブレイクが行われました。
　まず、「What’s your name ジャンケンバトル」というゲームが行われました。1年生と2年生でジャンケンをして勝った方が相手に”What’s your name?” と問いかけ、負けた方は質問に答えて相手に名前を聞き返し、お互いに自己紹介し合います。ゲーム開始後、1年生は緊張している様子でしたが、2年生が積極的に1年生にジャンケンを仕向けたことで、1年生も次第に緊張がほぐれ、楽しそうに活動をしていました。
　次に「Common Line」という、お互いの共通点を見つけるゲームが行われました。まず、学生たちは自分の趣味や出身地、好きな食べ物などを紙に書きだしました。ラーニングメンターは紙に書いてある内容を1枚ずつ読み上げ、学生たちは自分と共通点が一致したら一歩前進しました。学生たちが書いた内容は「VRゲームが好き」や「数学が好き」、「塩おむすびが好き」など、幅広い内容が書かれていて、時には笑いがあり大いに盛り上がりました。
　このアイスブレイクを通して、学生たちはお互いを知る第一歩となったようです。

【Ice-Breaking Session】

 On Monday, April 1st, 2024, after the entrance ceremony, a joint ice-breaking session was held for 1st and 2nd year students. 
 First, a game of What's Your Name Rock-Paper-Scissors Battle was held. In this game, 1st and 2nd year students play Rock-Paper-Scissors and the winning student asks the other student "What's your name?" Then, the losing student answers the question and asks the other student for their name and then they introduce themselves to each other. After the game started, the 1st year students looked nervous, but as the 2nd year students actively encouraged the 1st year students to play Rock-Paper-Scissors, the 1st year students gradually relaxed and seemed to enjoy the activity.
 Next, a game called Common Line was held to find out what the students had in common with each other. First, students wrote down on a piece of paper, such as their hobbies, hometowns or favorite foods. The Learning Mentor read out what was written on each piece of paper and the students took a step forward if they matched what they had in common. The students wrote things such as “I like VR games,” “I like mathematics,” “I like salt rice balls,” etc., and there were lots of fun and laughter.
 This ice-breaking session was the first step for the students to get to know each other.

【ポジティブサイコロジー】

　2024年4月2日（火）、1、2年生を対象に「ポジティブサイコロジー」が行われました。この講座は、自己開示を通じて、性格や考えなどの相互理解を深めることを目的としています。
　講師には、金沢工業大学 心理科学研究所所長の塩谷 亨教授、カウンセリングセンター 加々美 智光さん、村岡 智子さん、小林 奈緒子さんをお迎えしました。
　昨年度、2年生はこの講座を受講していたことから、2年生はグループ活動のファシリテーターとして1年生をサポートしました。まずはグループ内で自己紹介をした後、グループ内で1年生がペアを組み、お互いのパートナーを全員に対して自己紹介したり、パートナーについて質問に答えたりしました。質問の中には「あなたの出身地のいいところはなんですか？」や「あだ名の由来はなんですか？」、「好きなラーメンはなんですか？」など、予想外な質問も飛び交っていましたが、学生たちはお互いのことをよく理解し、質問に上手に答えていたのが印象的でした。

【Positive Psychology】

 On Wednesday, April 2nd, 2024, a Positive Psychology workshop was held for 1st and 2nd year students. The purpose of this workshop was to deepen mutual understanding of personalities and ideas through self-disclosure.
 The lecturers were Toru Shiotani sensei from the Laboratory of Psychological Sciences at KIT and Mr. Tomomitsu Kagami, Ms. Tomoko Muraoka, and Ms. Naoko Kobayashi from the Counseling Center.
 2nd year students had taken this workshop last year and this time they supported the 1st year students as facilitators of group activities. First, the 1st year students introduced themselves to the group, then 1st year students in the group paired up with other 1st year students and introduced each other's partners to everyone and answered questions about their partners. Some of the questions were "What is the best thing about where you come from?”, "What is the origin of your nickname?", and "What is your favorite ramen?” Through this interview process, students were able to learn about their new classmates.

【温泉ガイダンス】

　2024年4月3日（水）、1年生を対象に「温泉ガイダンス」が行われました。
　白山麓キャンパスの1、2年生は白山麓キャンパス内にある温泉施設「比咩の湯」を利用しています。今回は1年生が「比咩の湯」温泉を利用するにあたり、温泉スタッフから入場時・脱衣所・入浴・サウナ利用のマナーなどの説明を受けました。
　学生たちは「比咩の湯」温泉を利用することで、心身ともに癒されることでしょう。

【Hot Springs Guidance】

 On Wednesday, April 3^rd, 2024, Hot Spring Guidance was held for 1st year students. 
 The 1st and 2nd year students of the Hakusanroku Campus use Hime no Yu - the hot spring facility on the Hakusanroku Campus. The 1st year students were given a briefing by the hot spring staff on the entrance, changing rooms, bathing and sauna etiquette.
 The students will be able to use the Hime no Yu hot spring to relax.

【校長講話】

　2024年4月3日（水）、1、2年生を対象に鹿田 正昭校長による「校長講話」が行われました。
　1年生の講話では、鹿田校長の専門分野や趣味などが紹介された後、ロバート・P・クリースが著した「世界で最も美しい10の科学実験」という本が紹介されました。鹿田校長の専門が空間情報工学（測量学）ということもあり、「世界で最も美しい10の科学実験」の1番目のテーマが取り上げられ、紀元前3世紀に地球の大きさを測量したギリシャの学者「エラトスネス」がどのようにして地球の大きさを測ったかというクイズや、写真測量の原理について解説され、実際に立体視をする実験も交えながら紹介されました。最後に、校長先生は「モノづくりのための設計や計算を行う際には、有効数字の使い方に注意しましょう」と学生たちに呼びかけました。
　2年生の講話では、マーク・モンモニアが著した「地図は嘘つきである」を題材に「地図は正直？地図は嘘つき？」というタイトルで講話が行われました。最初に白山麓キャンパスがある地域の1960年代の航空写真と白山麓キャンパスが建設される3年前の航空写真、現在の航空写真の３つが比較されました。また、令和6年能登半島地震が発生する前と後の航空写真や災害地図を使って被害の場所や規模が正しく示していることを確認し「地図は正直である」ということが解説されました。　
　次に、地球儀と縮尺の違う地図を使って、3次元である地球が2次元である地図に表されることにより、地図には多くの「ウソ」があることをクイズも交えながら紹介がありました。講義終了後には学生がモノサシで実際に地図を測ってみるなど、講話で学んだことを実践で確認していました。
　講話の内容が1、2年生ともにエンジニアに必要な知識であり、能登半島地震などの災害にも最新の工学技術（空間情報工学）が使われていることが紹介されました。

【President's Lecture】

On Thursday, April 3rd, 2024, ICT President Masaaki Shikada sensei gave a lecture to the 1st and 2nd year students. 
 For 1st year students lecture, Shikada sensei introduced his specialization and hobbies, and then introduced the book called The World's 10 Most Beautiful Scientific Experiments by Robert P. Crease. Shikada sensei, whose specialty is Geoinformatics (Geographic Information System Surveying), took up the first chapter of “The Ten Most Beautiful Experiments in Science” and explained the principles of photogrammetry and a quiz on how the Greek scholar named Eratosthenes measured the size of the earth in the 3rd century BC. He also introduced the principle of photogrammetry, including an actual stereoscopic experiment. Finally, Shikada sensei urged the students to pay attention to the use of significant figures when designing and calculating for production.
 The lecture for the 2nd year students was based on Mark Montmonier's book called How to Lie with Maps and was entitled “Are Maps Honest? Are Maps Liars?" The lecture began with Shikada sensei showing the students 3 aerial photos of the Hakusanroku campus area; the first from the 1960s, one from three years before the construction of the campus and one from today. He also used aerial photographs and disaster maps from before and after the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake to confirm that they correctly showed the location and scale of the damage, and explained that “Maps are Honest”. Next, using a globe and a map of a different scale, the lecture included a quiz and an introduction to the many “Lies” in maps, as the three-dimensional earth is represented on a two-dimensional map. After the lecture, students confirmed what they had learned in the lecture by actually measuring the map with a ruler.
 Both 1st and 2nd year students were introduced to the fact that the content of the lecture is the knowledge required for engineers. 2nd year students learned the latest engineering technology (Geoinformatics) is used in disasters such as the Noto Peninsula Earthquake.

　2024年4月4日（木）、1年生を対象に理科科目教員による「STEMオリエンテーション」が行われ、ラボの使い方や実験器具の使い方などの実習が行われました。
　まず、学生たちは緊急時の対応として使用する消火器やシャワー、AEDの場所の位置確認を行いました。続いて、理科科目教員たちより、ガスバーナーや測定機器、実験•清掃器具の使い方や安全性について説明を受け、学生たちは聞き取った英単語をメモしたり、学んだ内容に関連するクイズに答えたりしました。
　ほとんどの学生は理科科目を英語で学習するのは初めてということもあり、学生たちは教員たちの説明を熱心に聞き、クラスメイトと協力し合いながらクイズに答えたりしていました。

【Orientation to STEM subjects (*1)】

*1 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

 On Thursday, April 4th, 2024, a STEM Orientation was held for 1st year students by science subject teachers, where they received practical training on how to use the lab and laboratory equipment. 
 First, students were shown the location of fire extinguishers, showers and AEDs for use in emergency situations. Next, science teachers explained how to safety use gas burners, measuring instruments and laboratory and cleaning equipment. During the demonstration students took notes on the English words they heard and answered quizzes related to what they had learnt.
 As it was the first time for most of the students to study a science subject in English, they listened intently to the teachers' explanations and collaborated with their classmates to answer the quizzes.

【English Expectation】

　2024年4月4日（木）、1、2年生を対象に「English Expectation」が開催されました。1、2年生混合の5グループに分かれ、まずはお互いが英語で自己紹介をしました。その後、2年生が1年生にSTEM授業を受講するにあたってのアドバイスや各教員の紹介、白山麓キャンパスでの経験や生活で役立つ英語などをレクチャーしました。
　1年生は先輩たちにアドバイスをもらったことで、白山麓キャンパスでどのような生活が待っているか、どのようなことにチャレンジできるのか知ることができたのではないでしょうか。

【English Expectations】

 On Thursday, April 4^th, 2024, an English Expectations workshop was held for 1st and 2nd year students. 
 The students were divided into five mixed groups of 1st and 2nd year students, who first introduced themselves to each other in English. The 2nd year students then gave advice to the 1st year students on taking STEM classes, introduced each faculty member, and talked about on their experiences at the Hakusanroku Campus and useful English for daily life.
 The 1st year students were able to find out what kind of life awaits them at the Hakusanroku Campus and what kind of challenges they will face.

【ラーニングセッションオリエンテーション】

　2024年4月4日（木）、1年生を対象にラーニングセッションのオリエンテーションが行われました。
　ラーニングセッションとは、毎週月曜日～金曜日の19時30分～21時30分の間、授業の予習・復習などを行う時間です。ラーニングメンターのアピラク・サンゲンチャイ先生、クリシア・アティロ先生、ドミソン・アブワン先生、シャーデー・モーア先生が学生たちの活動をサポートします。ラーニングメンターによるサポートだけではなく学生同士が助け合い、お互いに学び合ったりもしています。
　まずは、ラーニングメンターたちが自己紹介をした後、ラーニングセッションで使用するリビングコモンズやライブラリーコモンズ、各教室などのキャンパスツアーが行われました。
　次に1年生は様々なチーム活動をしました。まず初めに「Team Cup Pick-Up」というチームビルディングゲームが行われました。これは、輪ゴムに紐を均等に結び付け、その紐を引っ張り、輪ゴムを広げて紙コップに通して持ち上げ、紙コップを積み重ねていくというチーム内のメンバーが協力し合うゲームです。紐を引っ張るタイミングがなかなか合わず、紙コップを積み上げることに苦労するチームもいれば、声を掛け合いながら次々とコップの積み上げに成功するチームもいました。
　最後に「Classmate Bingo」というビンゴ大会が行われました。これは25個のマス目に「1月生まれ」や「コンテストに優勝したことがある」など様々な情報が記載されており、学生たちはクラスメイトやラーニングメンターに質問し、情報が一致すれば相手の名前をマス目に書き込むというゲームです。誰よりも早く、全部のマスを埋めることに成功した学生には、ラーニングメンターから景品としてお菓子が贈られました。
　学生たちはお互いの共通点を見つけることができたり、クラスメイトと会話するきっかけができたりして、すっかり打ち解けている様子でした。

 

【Learning Session Orientation】

 On Thursday April 4^th, 2024, a Learning Session orientation was held for 1st year students. 
 Learning Sessions are held every Monday through Friday from 7:30pm to 9:30pm for class preparation and review. The Learning Mentors are Apirak Sang-ngenchai sensei, Krishia Atillo sensei, Domyson Abuan sensei, and Sade Moore sensei. In addition to support from the Learning Mentors, students also help and learn from each other.  
 First, the Learning Mentors introduced themselves, followed by a campus tour of the Living Commons, Library Commons and various classrooms used during the learning sessions.
 Next, the 1st year students engaged in various team activities. The first activity was called Team Cup Pick-Up. This is a game in which teams tie a string evenly to a rubber band, pull on the string, and stretch the rubber band to lift and stack paper cups. Some teams had difficulty in pulling the string at the right moment and had difficulty in stacking the paper cups, while other teams succeeded in stacking the cups one after another.
 Finally, a bingo game called Classmate Bingo was held. In this game, 25 squares were filled with various phrases, such as “born in January” or “has won a competition”. Students asked their classmates or Learning Mentors a question and if the information matched, they wrote the other person's name in the square. The student who succeeded in filling all the squares faster than anyone else received sweets as a prize from Learning Mentors.
 The students were able to find common ground with each other and had a chance to talk to their classmates, and got to know each other very well.

　2024年4月6日（土）、1、2年生を対象に「課外活動ガイダンス」が行われました。
　白山麓キャンパスでは、年間を通して様々な活動が行われます。白山麓の自然を楽しむことができる「白山登山」や「一里野スキー教室」、白山麓地域に350年以上継承されている伝統芸能「東二口文弥人形浄瑠璃見学」、毎年恒例の「タイダイ染めTシャツ作り」、デザイン＆ファブリケーションクラブ活動、ロボコン活動、ラジオ番組制作、スタートアップ活動など、様々な活動が紹介されました。　　
　今後、学生たちはいろいろな活動に参加し、新たな発見や体験ができることでしょう。

【Extracurricular Activities Guidance】

 On Saturday, April 6^th, 2024, the Extracurricular Activities Guidance was held for 1st and 2nd year students.
 At the Hakusanroku Campus, various activities take place throughout the year. Some of these are

 In the future, students will be able to participate in various activities and discover and experience new things.

【防災教育】

　2024年4月6日（土）、1、2年生を対象に「防災教育」の講習会が実施されました。白山麓キャンパスでは、学生が2年間集団生活をするため、万一非常事態が発生した際には、適切に対応することが重要となります。
　講習会では、「非常時の対応」として火災や地震が発生した場合の行動や火災報知器、消化器、防火戸、非常口、AEDの設置場所などを確認しました。
　国際高専では、夜間や休日も含めて、安全•安心な学生生活の推進に努めています。

【Disaster Prevention Education】

 On Saturday, April 6th, 2024, a Disaster Prevention Education workshop was held for 1st and 2nd year students. Since students live together for two years at Hakusanroku Campus, it is important to respond appropriately in the event of an emergency.
 In the course of the training session, students learned what to do in case of a fire or earthquake and confirmed the locations of fire alarms, fire extinguishers, fire doors, emergency exits, and AEDs, as part of the Emergency Response.
 ICT strives to promote safe and secure student life, including at night and on holidays.

 Hello. I am Ian Stevenson, an English teacher here at the Hakusanroku campus.

 Following the Noto Earthquake on January 1, 2024, students from Wajima Junior High School were evacuated to the Hakusanroku area. On March13, some Wajima Junior High School students visited Hakusanroku Campus. While here, they took part in a variety of activities such as bouldering, using the laser cutter, playing English games and a STEM and English class called “Taking Flight”.

　こんにちは。白山麓キャンパスで英語科目を担当しているイアン・スティーブンソンです。

　2024年1月1日の能登半島地震の影響で白山麓地域へ避難していた輪島中学校の生徒たちが、3月13日に白山麓キャンパスを訪れました。ボルダリング体験や、レーザーカッター、英語ゲーム、「Taking Flight」と呼ばれるSTEMと英語のクラスなどの様々なアクティビティに参加しました。（詳細はこちらをご覧ください。）

 Learning Mentor Apirak Sang-ngenchai sensei and I ran the “Taking Flight” class. For this class, students used the Engineering Design process to build an indoor boomerang or roomerang that was safe to fly inside and when thrown, it would return to the thrower. In this class, students learned key vocabulary such as “prototype” and “design” in English while making roomerangs. After they finished tracing, cutting and folding, it was time to test their prototypes.

　ラーニングメンターのアピラク・サンゲンチャイ先生と私は「Taking Flight」のクラスを担当しました。このクラスでは、生徒たちはエンジニアリングデザインプロセスを使って、室内で安全に投げることができ、投げた人の元に戻ってくる「ブーメラン」を作りました。生徒たちはブーメランを作りながら、「プロトタイプ」や「デザイン」といった重要な語彙を英語で学びました。画用紙に図面を描き、カットし、折り曲げ、出来上がったプロトタイプをテストしました。

 Before testing, students were told that their roomerangs would probably not return the first time they threw it and that this was ok. Usually, early prototypes aren’t successful and they have to be reworked. After this, students began to throw, test and rework their prototypes. After experimenting with the bends in the roomerang wings and the throwing style and force, students began to have success and their roomerangs would return when thrown. Once successful, the students began to take on other challenges such as getting their roomerang to fly around a classmate or to see how to make it fly longer or higher.

 The students had a fun time building and flying their roomerangs and some of the Wajima teachers joined in to build and fly their own roomerangs.

　テストをする前に、私は生徒たちに初めて投げるブーメランはおそらく自分の元へ戻ってこないだろうけど、それでも構わないから飛ばしてみようと伝えました。通常、初期のプロトタイプはうまくいかず、作り直さなければいけません。生徒たちはブーメランを飛ばし、手直しし始めました。ブーメランの羽の曲がり具合や投げ方、力加減を試した後、生徒たちは徐々に成功し始め、投げたブーメランが自分の元に戻ってくるようになりました。次に、生徒たちは2人ペアになり、ブーメランを相手の周囲に飛ばしたり、より長く、より高く飛ばしたりするにはどうしたらいいかなど、他の課題にも挑戦し始めました。

　生徒たちはブーメランを作ったり飛ばしたりして楽しい時間を過ごし、輪島中学校の先生たちも一緒にブーメランを作って飛ばしました 。

　こんにちは、白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。今回は、2024年２月21日（水）に開催された「ICT Startup Competition 2024」について紹介します。

　本校では、高等専門学校スタートアップ^※１教育環境整備事業に選定され、昨年より様々な環境整備並びにスタートアップ人材育成のための取り組みを実施しています。具体的には、本校の白山麓キャンパス及び金沢キャンパス両キャンパスにおいて、本事業の目的の一つである各種モノづくり推進のための環境整備を整え、ビジネスマインドの醸成と共に、実際のモノづくりに結び付ける取り組みがスタートしています。
　更には、環境整備に留まらず、その場の活用のために必要なスタートアップイベントの開催においても、昨年9月に「スタートアップ・ブートキャップ」を開催し、スタートアップへの理解促進と、学生達への興味関心を高める取り組みを実施しました。
　これら昨年の取り組みを通じて得た知見も生かしつつ、白山麓キャンパスにおいて、初めての「ICT Startup Competition 2024」を開催となりました。国内外の有識者を迎えて、海外や日本といったマクロの視点だけではなく、地方におけるスタートアップの現状と課題に関し、専門家によるパネルディスカッションの他、学生によるピッチングイベント（学生のビジネスアイディアを4分～5分間の短い時間で発表）が行われ、スタートアップとは何か、今何が起こっているのか、そしてこれから何をすべきかについて考える良い機会となりました。
　当日のパネルディスカッションでは、タイ王国にあるKnowledge Xchange（ナレッジ・エクスチェンジ社）から、2名を講師として招聘し、同社での取り組みの他、今スタートアップに熱い視線が注がれている現状について話があり、日本との現状の差を感じる機会となりました。更には、国内や地域でスタートアップ人材育成に携わる専門家もお呼びして、国内の現状と課題についても率直な意見交換が行われました。そこでは、海外と日本の文化の違いや教育の違いからくる、スタートアップ人材育成への難しさやハードルの高さが垣間見える場面もありました。一方で、2022年はスタートアップ元年と呼ばれるほど、国からの様々な補助金や助成金が出され、各地域でスタートアップ環境整備が進んだ時期でもあり、“スタートアップ育成５か年計画^※２”が示されるなど、2023年の盛り上がりを経て、日本ではこれからの取り組みが注目されます。
　高専教育では、実務実践型の教育による即戦力人材育成のための教育課程に加え、スタートアップ人材に欠かせないビジネスマインドの醸成を踏まえた、教育環境整備を進めることで、高専からのスタートアップ人材創出に期待が高まる中、本校ではエンジニアリングデザイン教育を柱とした、ビジネスマインドの醸成や、デザインシンキング手法を用いた顧客思考を学ぶ取り組みが既に進んでいることもあり、スタートアップ教育環境整備事業の選定によって、これまでの教育基盤を更に深化させるものとなりました。
　今回初めての試みであった「ICT Startup Competition 2024」も、今後さらに充実させていくとともに、今後も本校からのスタートアップ人材の創生に努めていきます。

※１：「スタートアップ」とは、今までになかったビジネスや市場を新たに切り開き、短期間で成長が見込める企業やビジネスを指す。
※２：「スタートアップ5か年計画」とは、日本国内のスタートアップを大幅に増やすための戦略とロードマップを示したもの。スタートアップへの投資額を現在の10倍とし、将来的に10万社のスタートアップ企業創出を目指す。

Holding the very first ICT Startup*1 Competition 2024

 Hello, this is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku office. This time, I would like to write about the ICT Startup Competition 2024 held on Wednesday, February 21st 2024.

 International College of Technology, Kanazawa was selected as a technical college startup educational environment improvement project last year, and since then we have been implementing various environmental improvements and initiatives to develop human resources for startups. Specifically, at both the Hakusanroku Campus and the Kanazawa Campus, efforts have been made to start to create a startup environment and to foster a business mindset and link it to actual products or services, which is one of the objectives of this project.
 Furthermore, in addition to improving the environment, we also held a startup boot camp in September last year to promote understanding of startups and raise interest among students.
 While making use of the knowledge gained through these initiatives last year, the first "ICT Startup Competition 2024" was held at the Hakusanroku Campus. Panel discussions and student pitching competitions were held. In the panel discussion, we discussed the current conditions and challenges of startups overseas, in Japan, and in local areas with honorary guests from Japan and overseas. In addition to a panel discussion by guest speakers, the event also featured a pitching event (presentation of students' business ideas in a short period of 4-5 minutes), which was a good opportunity to think about what a startup is, what is happening now, and what should be done in the future.
 In the panel discussion on the day, two guests from Knowledge Xchange in the Kingdom of Thailand were invited to talk about the startup ecosystem and the current conditions where startups are growing in Thailand, and it was an opportunity to feel the difference between the current conditions in other countries and Japan. In addition, experts involved in startup human resource development within Japan and within various regions were invited to have a frank exchange of opinions on the current conditions and issues in Japan. There were also scenes where we could glimpse the difficulties and high hurdles of developing human resources for startups due to cultural and educational differences. On the other hand, in 2022, the government issued various subsidies to the extent that 2022 has been called “the first year of startups”, and the development of the startup environment has progressed in each region. After the excitement of 2023, including the announcement of the "Five-Year Plan for Startup Development^*2", future initiatives are attracting attention in Japan.
 In technical college education, in addition to the curriculum for developing work-ready human resources through practical education, we are promoting the development of the educational environment based on developing a business mindset that is indispensable for startup human resources. Efforts to learn customer thinking using design thinking methods are already underway, and being selected as a startup education environment improvement project has further deepened the educational foundation so far.
 This year’s ICT Startup Competition 2024, which was the first attempt, will be further enhanced in the future, and we will continue to strive to create startup human resources from our school.

*1: "Startup" refers to a company or business that is expected to grow in a short time by opening up new businesses and markets that have never existed before.
*2: The "Five-Year Startup Plan" is a strategy and roadmap for significantly increasing the number of startups in Japan. The company aims to increase the amount of investment in startups by 10 times the current amount and create 100,000 startups in the future.
