こんにちは。白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。今回は2023年7月21日（金）に行われたエンジニアリングデザインⅠA（1年生）の最終ポスター発表について紹介します。

　1年生が履修するエンジニアリングデザインⅠAでは、日常生活における問題を発見し、解決策を生み出すためにプロジェクト活動を通してアイデアを素早く試作するための基礎知識や手法を学び、アイデアをカタチにすることで価値創造を楽しむことを目的としています。
　今回の課題は、「毎日使う最悪のもの」をリデザインし、その中にある不便な点を解決することです。自室に取り付けるものや授業中に使用するものなど、学生たちが日常生活の中で不便だと思うものは様々でした。
　最初の授業で、学生たちはドローイングスキルを学び、プロトタイプなどの図面を正確に描ける能力を養いました。チームでアイデアを出し合い、創造的な思考を視覚化し正しく他者に伝えるためには、コミュニケーションツールとしてドローイングスキルが重要です。まず学生たちは、立体の図形や携帯電話、マグカップなどの立体物の描き方を学んだ後、不便だと感じているものを改善する解決策を20個以上スケッチしました。その後、20個のスケッチの中から1個を選び、教員たちにスケッチを見せながら英語でプレゼンテーションし、フィードバックを受けるデザインレビューセッションが行われました。 そこでは、教員たちからモノの機能や、安全性、デザイン、素材、必要性等についてフィードバックがありました。そして、段ボールや紙を使って簡易的な模型を製作し、サイズや機構を確認しました。その後、コンピュータスキルズの授業で学んでいる「Fusion360」や「イラストレータ」を応用して３Dモデル等を設計し、3Dプリンターやレーザーカッターなどを使って実際にプロトタイプを製作しました。最終授業で行われたポスター発表では、実際に製作したモノを紹介しながら、そのプロセス、問題解決、ユーザーニーズ、使用結果の検証、今後の改善点、結論等を発表し、審査員の教員たちから質疑が行われました。 
　3Dプリンターやレーザーカッターなどを用いたプロトタイプの設計方法やアプリケーションの使い方などを教員に積極的に質問する学生たちの活き活きとした表情が印象的でした。学生たちはユニークな想像・アイデアを形にしていくプロセスを体験し、アイデア創出の楽しさを確認できたのではないでしょうか。今回の授業で得た新たな学びは、今後の活動に繋がることでしょう。

 This is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku Office. This time, I would like to write about the final Engineering Design I A poster presentation held on Friday, July 21^st.
 
 In Engineering Design IA, the students work on project-based learning activities. They find problems in their daily lives and create solutions for these problems. Through the projects, students learn basic knowledge and methods to make quick prototypes of their ideas and enjoy value creation by giving shape to their ideas.
 For this assignment, the task was to redesign “the worst thing that they use every day” and improve it. There were a variety of things that the students found problematic in their daily lives. They included things that they have their own rooms, use during class, and so on.
 In the first class, students learned drawing skills and developed the ability to accurately draw prototypes and other drawings. Drawing skills are important as a communication tool for teams to generate ideas and to visualize and correctly communicate creative thinking to others through visualization. First, the students learned how to draw solid figures such as mobile phones, mugs, and other solid figure drawings, and then students sketched more than 20 solutions to improve the things they felt were inconvenient. Afterwards, the students selected one of the 20 sketches and gave a presentation in English while showing the sketch to the teachers, and a design review session was held to receive feedback. After students explained the functions, safety, design, materials, and necessity of the objects, they received feedback from the teachers. Then, students built a simple model using cardboard and paper to confirm the size and mechanism. After that, students designed 3D models by applying the Fusion360 and Illustrator skills which they are learning in Computer Skills class, and actually made prototypes using 3D printers and laser cutters. The final class was a poster presentation session where the students presented their prototypes, including the process, problem solving method, user needs, verification of results, future improvements, and conclusions while introducing the actual products they produced, and student answered questions from the faculty.

 It was impressive to see the lively expressions on the students' faces as they actively asked questions to the instructors about how to design prototypes using the 3D printer, laser cutter, and other equipment as well as how to use the applications. I believe that the students were able to experience the process of giving shape to their unique imaginations and ideas, and able to affirm their enjoyment of idea generation. I am sure that the new learning students gained from this class will help them in the future.

 Hello everyone, my name is Apirak Sang-ngenchai, a Learning Mentor from Thailand. I haven't been able to visit my home country as often as I would like due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, I went to the biggest Thai festival in Japan, held for the first time in three years at Yoyogi Park in Tokyo. The Thai Festival was so much fun, colorful, and lively. Not only Thai people joined the festival but also other travelers came too.

　みなさんこんにちは、タイ出身でラーニングメンターのアピラク・サンゲンチャイです。新型コロナウイルス感染症のパンデミックの影響で、思うように母国を訪れることができませんでした。先日、東京の代々木公園で3年ぶりに開催された日本最大のタイフェスティバルに行ってきました。タイフェスティバルはとても楽しくて、カラフルで、にぎやかでした。タイ人だけでなく、旅行者もフェスティバルに参加していました。

 I heard the amazing Thai music playing as soon as I arrived. The performances on stage were mostly by Thai singers and Thai idols. The music made me feel like I was in Thailand.
 Let's talk about the food, the smell of Thai food filled the air, and my mouth started watering. I tried Khao Soi and Northern Thai Sausage. Each bite was bursting with delicious flavors. I couldn't get enough! 
 But it wasn't just about the music and food. There were booths with Thai ingredients and fruits from Thailand, such as Mango, Coconut, Longan, and Durian. However, Durian has a strong smell which some people like, and some hate, but for me, Durian is the king of fruit. LOL.

　会場に到着してすぐに、素晴らしいタイの音楽が聞こえました。ステージでのパフォーマンスは、タイの歌手やタイのアイドルが中心でした。まるでタイにいるような気分にさせてくれました。
　食べ物の話をしましょう。会場はタイ料理の匂いが充満し、私の口の中は渇いてきました。私はカオソーイと北タイソーセージを食べてみました。一口食べるごとに、美味しさが溢れ出てきました。もっと食べたかったです！
　しかし、音楽や食べ物だけではありませんでした。タイの食材やマンゴー、ココナッツ、リュウガン、ドリアンといったタイ産のフルーツが並ぶブースもありました。ただ、ドリアンは匂いが強烈で、好きな人もいれば嫌いな人もいますが、私にとってドリアンは果物の王様です。笑

 The best part of the festival was the happy and friendly atmosphere. People from different backgrounds laughed, ate, drank, and enjoyed the festival together.
 It was such a wonderful feeling. I left the festival with a big smile and feeling heavy from overeating food. And this reminds me that Thailand is known as the "Land of Smiles," I can't wait for the next festival to celebrate and look forward to more adventures! #ThaiFestivalTokyo2023

　このフェスティバルの一番の見どころは、ハッピーでフレンドリーな雰囲気でした。さまざまなバックグラウンドを持つ人々が笑い、食べ、飲み、一緒にフェスティバルを楽しみました。
　私はとても素晴らしい気分でした。私は満面の笑みを浮かべ、お腹もいっぱいになったところでフェスティバルを後にしました。タイ王国が「微笑みの国」として知られていることを再認識し、次のフェスティバルが待ち遠しく、さらなる冒険を楽しみにしています！　#タイフェスティバル東京2023

　こんにちは、白山麓事務室の本田です。
　2023年6月3日（土）、白山麓キャンパスでは希望者を対象としたサイクリングイベントを開催しました。
　台風２号の影響で前日も雨が残っていましたが、天気予報では夜から晴れ予報となっていたことから、実施に向け、私と山崎先生とフィリップ先生は参加学生達の自転車点検を実施しました。
　当日は曇り空の涼しいサイクリング日和となり、白山麓キャンパス玄関前に9:00に集合し出発しました。まずは白山麓キャンパスから田園風景の中を下っていきました。白山麓キャンパスから16.5km程走行したところにある樹齢1200年と言われる「五十谷の大杉」まで進み記念写真をパシャリ！ここからは登りが徐々にきつくなり始め、3kmほど先の今回の最高到達点となる標高約390m地点まで登りました。しかし先は長いので無理は禁物です。その後は登った頑張りが報われる長い下り坂を進んでいきました。そして9km程進んだ所にある十二ヶ滝で休憩しました。昨年のサイクリングイベントでは、暑い中、多くの学生が川の中に飛びこみ泳いだ場所です（June 29, 2022 ネイチャー＆アドベンチャークラブ「65kmサイクリング」）。休憩を終え次に向かう目的地は、約23km先の白山比咩神社です。途中、今回最下地点の標高約13m地点まで下ったあと緩やかに上りながら、今回一番の急坂を迎えました。その後、白山比咩神社まで下り基調で脚を休めながら進んでいき、白山比咩神社手前にある吊り橋を渡ったところでようやく昼食休憩です。お店の中で定食を食べたり、大判焼きやたこ焼きを食べたりして、ゆっくり休憩しました。ここから白山麓キャンパスまでは残り約20kmとなりました。ゆったりとした登りを自転車道のキャニオンロードで帰りました。途中13km程進んだ所で大きくて綺麗な綿ヶ滝を背に記念撮影し、標高差90m程を約7kmかけて登り、白山麓キャンパスまで戻ってきました。
　出発する時に曇っていた空も、途中からは青空になり、学生達は日焼けで赤くなっていましたが、転倒やパンク等もなく気持ちよく終えることができました。

 Hello, this is Honda from the Hakusanroku office.
 On Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, Hakusanroku Campus held a cycling event for those who wanted to participate.
 The day before the event, there was still some rain due to Typhoon No. 2, but the weather forecast called for clear skies in the evening, so Yamazaki sensei, Philip sensei, and I inspected the bicycles of the participating students before the event.
 On the day of the event, the weather was cloudy and cool, which is good for cycling. We gathered for departure at 9:00 a.m. at the entrance of Hakusanroku Campus. We started from Hakusanroku Campus and rode down through the countryside. After riding for about 16.5 kms from Hakusanroku campus, we arrived at "Gojyutani no osugi", a 1200 years old cedar, and snapped a commemorative photo! From there, the climb began to get tougher and tougher, and after about 3kms, we reached the highest point of the day, about 390 meters above sea level. However, we still had a long way to go and made a long 9km descent to the Twelve Waterfalls and took a break. This is where many students jumped into the river and swam to cool down during our cycling event last year (June 29, 2022 Nature & Adventure Club 65km Cycling ). After a rest, the next destination was Hakusan Hime Shrine, about 23 kms away. On the way down, we descended to the lowest point of the tour, about 13 meters above sea level, and then gently climbed up to the steepest hill of the trip. After cresting this hill, we continued downhill to Hakusan Hime Shrine, resting our legs, and finally took a lunch break when we crossed the suspension bridge in front of Hakusan Hime Shrine. We had a meal of oobayaki and okonomiyaki in the restaurant. From there, we had about a 20 km ride back to Hakusanroku Campus. We had a leisurely uphill ride back on the Tedori Canyon Road bike path. We took a commemorative photo with the large and beautiful Watarigataki Waterfall in the background at the 13 km point, and then we continued on, climbing 90 meters over the last 7kms before getting back to Hakusanroku campus.
 The sky, which was cloudy when we started out, turned blue during our ride. At the end of the ride all of the students were sunburnt, but we were able to finish the ride comfortably without any falls or flat tires.

 Hello everyone! This is Jomkit Jujaroen, a Learning Mentor. It’s not often that I write these journals, but I wanted to talk a little bit about the Welcome Party, we the Learning Mentors, held for 1st year students at the end of April 2023. Of course, it wasn’t only restricted to the 1st year students; many 2nd year students were also happy to join. 

 We like to hold the Welcome Party at the beginning of every academic year to help remind the students to take a break and enjoy themselves every now and then. This year the party was held on the optional Friday Learning Session. The students enjoyed some activities, like Karaoke at the grand staircase, and playing the popular party game Super Smash Bro’s Ultimate in the project booth. The Learning Mentors also brought many snacks; some were requested, some common crowd pleasers, and even some special snacks from other countries. For instance, Birthday Cake-flavored Oreos and Toffee Crunch-flavored Oreos. 

It was impressive that the 1st and 2nd year students seemed to be having a good time.

　みなさんこんにちは！ラーニングメンターのジョムキット・ジュジャロエンです。私はこのようなジャーナルを書くことはあまりないのですが、2023年4月末に私たちラーニングメンターが1年生のために開催した歓迎会について少しお話しします。もちろん、1年生だけではなく、たくさんの2年生も歓迎会に参加してくれました。

　毎年、年度初めに開催している歓迎会は、学生たちに楽しい時間を過ごしてもらい、息抜きをしてもらうために開催しています。今年は参加が自由となる金曜日のラーニングセッションの時間に歓迎会を開催しました。学生たちはカラオケを大階段でしたり、人気のパーティゲーム「大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズ SPECIAL」をプロジェクトブースでするなど様々な活動を楽しみました。また、ラーニングメンターたちは、学生たちからリクエストのあったお菓子の他に学生たちが好きそうなお菓子やバースデーケーキ味のオレオやトフィークランチ味のオレオといった海外の特別なお菓子をたくさん準備しました。

　楽しそうに過ごしている１、2年生が印象的でした。
