こんにちは！国際高専1年の中澤 琉月です。2023年5月14日(日)、併設校の金沢工業大学 学友会主催の白山麓地域交流活動「河原山地区 田植え体験会」に参加しました。私はもともとSDGsに関連するような社会問題や環境問題に興味があり、学生団体を立ち上げたり、積極的にオンラインイベントに参加したりするなどして経験を深めています。また去年から私が行っている活動で稲作の環境問題を取り扱っているため、この地域の稲作についても情報が得られたらと思い参加しました。　

　午前中はそれぞれの役割にわかれて田植えを行い、私はコシヒカリの苗の手植え作業をしました。作業後に機械で田植えを行うところを見て、改めて機械化がどれほど人々の仕事の形を変えたのかを実感できました。お昼には地域の女性会のみなさんが作ったお弁当をいただきました。 地域で採れる食材をふんだんに使い、ふるさとの味が感じられるお弁当で、とてもおいしかったです！

　午後には学生と地域の方との交流会として、地域創生を目指す河原山について質問や意見を言える場がありました。国際高専生としての参加は私だけでしたが、勇気を出して質問をすることもできました。そこから得た回答や他の学生の意見、質疑応答から、私のSDGsへの向き合い方とは違う、この地域が持つ向き合い方について、改めて実感した部分がありました。私はSDGｓに関する活動を行う際、ある特定の具体的な問題にフォーカスすることが多いです。しかし、この地域では抱える問題１つ１つにフォーカスするのではなく、金沢工業大学生など若者に地域のことを伝えたり金沢工業大学生たちにとっての学びのフィールドとなったりすることで、コラボレーションという１つの産業が生まれ、発展していくという私の知らなかった像が見えたのです。簡単に言えば、SDGｓの17番「パートナーシップで目標を達成しよう」の認識をまた1段深めることができた、ということです。

　私が思っていたより多くの学びを得て、自分の活動への関連を見つけることができたので、嬉しくて思わず母親にも連絡してしまいました！ここで得た学びを生かして、これからの活動も頑張っていこうとより強く思うことができました。

 Hi, I’m Ruuna Nakazawa, a student in S1 class in ICT. On Sunday, May 14th, 2023, I participated in the Kawarayama Area Rice Planting Experience, a regional exchange activity at Hakusanroku hosted by the KIT Gakuyukai, an attached school.  I have been interested in the social issues and environmental issues that relate to SDGs, and I have engaged in several activities, such as creating a student organization and attending many online events. Also, since last year, I have engaged in an activity concerning the environmental issue of rice cultivation, so I wanted to get some information about rice cultivation in this area. That is the reason why I joined this activity.

 In the morning, we all had different roles in planning the rice, and I planted Koshihikari seedlings by hand. When I saw the work with a planting machine after my work, I was amazed at how the machine changed our forms of work. At lunchtime, we ate bento that were made by members of a local women’s community group. The bento used a lot of local ingredients so I felt it had a real hometown taste to it, and it was so tasty!

 In the afternoon, there was an opportunity for us to share our opinions and ask questions of a person who lives in the area. Recently, that area collaborated with KIT in its regional revitalization program. Therefore, I asked a question with courage even though I was the only student in ICT that joined this time. Through the conversations, the opinions I heard from other students, and the answers I received from local people, I learned that the way that this region approaches SDGs is different from how I had approached them. I usually focus on and tackle individual problems when I do my activities. However, this area tries to tell its stories to KIT students and young people instead of focusing on each problem the area has. By doing so, an industry called collaboration will be born, and it can develop the area. Through this experience, I saw things in a way that I had never imagine before. Simply put, I say that I deeply understand goal 17 of the SDGs, “Partnership for the goals.”

 Without even thinking about it, I contacted my mother and told her about these experiences because I was so happy that I was able to learn much more than I expected, and I discovered a connection between these experiences and my personal activities! I want to make use of what I learned through this experience here at school, and work harder toward my future activities.

 In February 2023, ten students signed up voluntarily for a book writing class. Several students put their thoughts to paper in our special event writing workshop. They let their minds wander to their experiences in the past, to special events, and to observations in their communities. Then, students wrote their stories-- in English.
 I am pleased to present the story of Ema Miwa. I hope you enjoy it.

　2023年2月、10名の学生が課外活動「Book Writing」に参加してくれました。学生たちは過去に経験したことや、特別な出来事、コミュニティを観察したことなど、様々なことを思い浮かべながら、自分の思いを紙に書きだした後、英語で物語を書きました。

　こんにちは。国際高専校長の鹿田 正昭です。
　2023年4月20日（木）、私は白山麓キャンパスの校長室で打ち合わせを始める前になにげなく外を見たら、校舎前の休耕田に向かう多くの2年生の姿を見ました。すぐにでも現地に行きたかったのですが打ち合わせがあったため、向かうことができませんでした。打ち合わせ終了後、再び外を見たら、土作りや畝作りが完成している状態でしたが、急いで畑に向かいました。

　2年生の「エンジニアリングデザイン」では、アグリビジネス班は「紅はるか」を栽培し農業法人の経営ビジネスに取り組み、獣害対策班（※1）はAIを活用した獣害対策システムを開発しているという話は聞いていました。実際にアグリビジネス班が畑作業をしている姿を見るのは初めてでした。アグリビジネス班を担当している山崎 俊太郎先生、松下 臣仁先生、小髙 有普先生からこれまでの経過について説明を聞いている横で、秋の収穫に向け、丁寧に畑作業をしている学生たちの姿が印象的でした。

　数日後、山崎先生から「来週は紅はるかの苗の作付けをするので参加しませんか？」と声をかけていただきました。1週間後の2023年4月27日（木）に苗付けを体験しました。昔は泥遊びが日常的でしたので、土の匂いがなつかしい感じがしました。
　山崎先生から苗付けの方法について説明があったのち、東側から3列目の苗床の作付けに挑戦しました。はじめは数株植え付けて終了する予定でしたが、1列分（約30株）を作付けしました。この列がうまく育つか心配です。
　獣害対策も行いながら、秋には白山麓キャンパス前の「道の駅瀬女」で紅はるかを販売することになると思いますので、これからの経過が楽しみです。広報を担当している志鷹 英男さんが昨年の2022年12月22日の白山麓ジャーナルに「紅はるか事業」の成果について詳しく書いていますので、ぜひご覧ください。

（※1）獣害対策について
　白山麓では猿による農作物への被害が年々深刻化しています。そこで獣害対策班はAIとIoTを使い、自然の中でも猿を認識できるシステムの開発を進めています。これまでに、猿の写真をAIに数千枚学習させたことにより、認識信頼度を90%以上まで向上させることに成功しました。また、音と光による威嚇機能やAIが猿を認識した際に生産者が所有するスマホのLINEアプリに通知を送る機能の開発・検証、更に昨年度はドローンによる威嚇効果も検証しました。今年度は、昨年度特に効果があったドローンによる威嚇システムについて、プロジェクトを展開していく予定です。

Engineering Design IIA (2nd year) Planting Beniharuka Seedlings

 Hello. This is Masaaki Shikada, President of ICT.
 On Thursday, April 20th, 2023, before starting a meeting in the president's office on the Hakusanroku Campus, I casually looked outside and saw many 2nd year students heading to fallow fields. I wanted to go there immediately, but I had a meeting, so I couldn't head over there right away. After the meeting, I looked outside again and saw that the soil had been prepared and the rows had been dug, so I hurried over to the field.

 I had heard that the 2nd year Engineering Design class had an Agribusiness Team, which is working on growing Beniharuka as well as the management business of an agricultural corporation, and an Animal Damage Prevention Team (*1), which is developing an AI-based animal damage prevention system. This was the first time I actually saw the Agribusiness Team working in the fields. I asked Shuntaro Yamazaki sensei, Omihito Matsushita  sensei, and Arihiro Kodaka sensei about the students’ progress. It was impressive to see the students carefully working to ensure a large autumn harvest.

 A few days later, Yamazaki sensei asked me, "Next week we will be planting seedlings, so would you like to join us?". One week later, on Thursday, April 27th, 2023, I planted Beniharuka with the students. As a child I played in the mud everyday, so the smell of soil made me feel nostalgic. After learning how to plant seedlings from Yamazaki sensei, I planted the 3^rd row from the eastern side of the garden bed. At first, I only planned to plant a few seedlings and finish the experience, but I ended up planting one whole row (about 30 plants).
 The Animal Damage Prevention will work on ensuring that the Beniharuka seedlings are protected from harm. After they grow, the Beniharuka will be sold at Sena Roadside Station in the autumn, so I'm looking forward to seeing this future progress. Mr. Hideo Shitaka from Public Relations wrote in detail about last year's achievements in the Hakusanroku Journal on December 22nd, 2022, so please take a look at his journal entry.

(*1) About Animal Damage Prevention
 At HAKUSANROKU (Foothills of Mt. Hakusan), crop damage caused by monkeys is becoming more and more serious every year. The Animal Damage Prevention Team is developing a system that uses AI & IoT that can recognize monkeys. To date, students have successfully improved recognition reliability to over 90% by having the AI learn thousands of photos of monkeys. In addition, students have developed and verified 2 functions to protect the crops. The 1st is a sound and light intimidation function. The 2nd is a Line app that sends notifications when the AI recognizes a monkey. Also, last year students verified the effectiveness of drones in intimidating monkeys. This year, they plan to develop a new project based upon the drone threat system that was particularly effective last year.

「私の好きなもの・こと」

　こんにちは、ベトナムからきた1年生の青山 貴恵斗です。
　私の好きなことは絵を描くことです。きっかけは、ピアノ以外の習い事をしたいと思って14才の時に始めました。
　鉛筆を使って下絵をしてから絵画専用のペンで描きます。山や川などの自然の景色を描きます。鉛筆一本、体があればだれでも描けます。以前、ベトナムにいた時、先生とほかの生徒とカフェに行って観葉植物をスケッチしました。その植物は２メートルの高さがあって葉がハート型でした。１時間ずっと描きました。それまでは小さな草や花しか描いたことしかありませんでしたが、そのときはじめて大きな植物にチャレンジして上手に描くことができたので、とても満足しました。ただ、その日は、雨が降っていたので家に帰るときスケッチブックが濡れないか心配でした。父と母に絵を見せると「上手だね」と言ってくれたのでとても嬉しかったです。
　これからは鉛筆以外の絵にチャレンジしたいです。

 Hello. My name is Kieto Aoyama a 1st year student from Vietnam.
 My hobby is drawing. I started when I was 14 years old because I wanted to learn something other than piano.
 I would use a pencil to make a rough sketch and then draw with a special pen for painting. I usually draw natural scenery such as mountains and rivers, other than that I would also draw small delicate objects. A great thing about sketching is that anyone with a pencil can do it. My first time learning sketching only took a day. When I was in Vietnam, I went to a café with my teacher and other students to sketched houseplants. The plant I drew was about 2 meters tall and the leaves were heart shaped. Until then, I had only drawn small plants and flowers, but that was the first time I was able to challenge myself with large plants. It took an hour, but the result was surprisingly good, so I was very satisfied. However, it was raining that day, so I was worried that my sketchbook would get wet when I got home but luckily it was okay. When I showed the drawing to my parents, they praised me, saying that I was talented, so I was very happy.
 Next time, I would like to try drawing with things other than pencils.

　こんにちは！白山麓事務室の間加田 侑里です。1年生が入学してから早1か月が経ち、学生生活に少しずつ慣れてきた様子です。さて、今回は4月上旬に行われた様々なオリエンテーションについて紹介します。

【アイスブレイク】

　2023年4月3日（月）、1、2年生はラーニングセッションのアイスブレイクとして「スローボール」を行いました。
　入学式や対面式、始業式を終え、１年生と2年生が初めて交流する場となることから、まずはお互いを知るために、自分の名前や出身地、好きな食べ物などを全員に向けて紹介しました。その後、紙に自分が自己紹介をした内容を書き、それをボールのように丸めてみんなで投げ合った後、各自ボールを1つ拾い、そこに書かれた自己紹介を1人ずつ読み上げ、それを書いた人物を当てるゲームに挑戦しました。
　この活動を通して、学生たちはお互いの名前を知る第一歩となったのではないでしょうか。

【Ice-Breaking】

 On Monday, April 3^rd, 2023, 1^st and 2^nd year students took part in an icebreaker activity for the Learning Session. This was the first time for 1^st and 2^nd year students to interact with each other after the entrance ceremony, face-to-face ceremony and opening ceremony.
 First, students shared their names, hometowns, favorite foods, etc. with everyone in order to get to know each other. After that, students wrote a self-introduction on a piece of paper, rolled it up like a ball and threw it at each other. After this, each student picked up one paper ball, read out the self-introduction written on it and tried to guess who wrote it.
 This activity was one of the first opportunities for students to get to know each other’s names.

 

【STEM科目(^※1)オリエンテーション】　※1 Science,Technology,Engineering,Mathmatics科目

　2023年4月5日（水）、1年生を対象に物理や化学といったSTEM科目のオリエンテーションが行われました。
　まず、昨年度に学生たちが制作した動画「実験室の使用方法」を視聴した後、緊急時の対応として使用する消火器やシャワー、AEDの場所の位置確認を行いました。続いて、物理や化学を担当する教員たちは4つのグループに分かれ、安全性と清掃方法、測定方法、ガスバーナーの使い方や実験器具の説明を実際に実験しながら説明し、学生たちは聞き取った英単語をメモしたり、クイズに答えたりしました。
　ほとんどの1年生は初めて英語でSTEM科目を学習するということもあり、学生たちは緊張しながらも真剣に授業に取り組んでいるのが印象的でした。

 

【STEM Subjects (*1) Orientation】*1 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Subjects

 On Wednesday, April 5^th, 2023, an orientation for STEM subjects such as physics and chemistry was held for 1^st year students.
 First, students watched the videos "How to Use the Laboratory" which was produced by the students last year. Then they were shown where the fire extinguishers, showers and AEDs for first aid were in case of an emergency. Next, the physics and chemistry faculty divided the students into four groups. The students listened, wrote down new English words, and quizzed themselves on information such as safety and cleaning procedures, how to make measurements, and how to use gas burners and other lab equipment as they conducted their experiments.
 As this was the first time for most of the 1^st year students to study STEM subjects in English, it was impressive to see that despite their nervousness they took the class seriously.

【ポジティブサイコロジー】

　2023年4月5日（水）、1、2年生を対象に「ポジティブサイコロジー」が行われました。この講座は、自己開示を通じて、性格や考えなどの相互理解を深めることを目的としています。
　講師には、金沢工業大学 心理科学研究所所長の塩谷 亨教授、カウンセリングセンター 加々美 智光さん、村岡 智子さんをお迎えしました。
　昨年度、2年生はこの講座を受講しており、今回は2年生がグループ活動のファシリテーターとして1年生をサポートしました。1年生はグループ内で自己紹介をした後、グループ内の1年生同士でペアを組み、お互いのパートナーを全員に向けて紹介したり、パートナーについての質問に答えたりしました。質問の中には「あなたのパートナーが着ているオシャレな服はどこで買ったんですか？」や「岐阜県の電圧は50ヘルツですか？60ヘルツですか？」など、予想外な質問も飛び交っていましたが、学生たちはお互いのことをよく理解し、質問に上手に答えていたのが印象的でした。

【Positive Psychology】

 On Wednesday, April 5^th, 2023, a Positive Psychology workshop was held for 1^st and 2nd year students. The purpose of this class was to deepen mutual understanding of personalities and ideas through self-disclosure.
 The lecturers were Toru Shiotani sensei (Prof) from the Laboratory of Psychological Sciences at KIT and Ms. Tomomitsu Kagami and Ms. Tomoko Muraoka from the Counseling Center.
 2nd year students had taken this class last year and this time they supported the 1st year students as facilitators of group activities. First, the 1st year students introduced themselves to the group, then 1st year students in the group paired up with other 1st year students and introduced each other's partners to everyone and answered questions about their partners. Some of the questions included "Where did your partner buy the fashionable clothes he wears? and "Is the voltage in Gifu prefecture 50 Hz or 60 Hz?” and so on. The students understood each other and answered the questions well, which was impressive.

【校長講話】

　2023年4月6日（木）、1、2年生を対象に今年度より校長に就任した鹿田 正昭先生による校長講話が行われました。
　鹿田校長は自己紹介として趣味や活動などを紹介した後、「世界で最も美しい10の科学実験」という本を紹介しました。本のテーマの1つである「世界を測る―エラトステネスによる地球の外周の長さの測定」をピックアップし、ギリシャのエラトスネスという学者が初めて地球の大きさを測った方法を解説しました。次に鹿田校長の専門分野である「空間情報工学（測量学）」について、空間情報工学の集大成であるGoogle EarthやGoogle Street Viewを用いて紹介、写真測定の原理や立体視、有効数学についてクイズを交えながら解説、最新の空間情報工学技術について動画を交えて紹介しました。
　学生たちが鹿田校長の専門的な講義に真剣に耳を傾けているのが印象的でした。

【President's Lecture】

 On Thursday, April 6th, 2023, Masaaki Shikada sensei (Prof.), who became president this year, gave a lecture to the 1st and 2nd students.
 After introducing himself and talking about his hobbies and activities, President Shikada introduced the book " The Ten Most Beautiful Experiments in Science ". President Shikada chose the topic "Eratosthenes' measurement of the Earth's circumference " and explained how a Greek scholar named Eratosthenes first measured the size of the Earth. Next, President Shikada introduced his field of expertise, Geoinformatics (Geographic Information System Surveying), using Google Earth and Google Street View, which is the culmination of geoinformatics information engineering and explained the principles of photogrammetry, stereo vision and significant figures. He also asked the students question and showed videos of the latest spatial information engineering technology.
 It was impressive that the students listened intently to President Shikada’s specialized lecture.

【1年生ラーニングセッションのオリエンテーション】

　2023年4月6日（木）、1年生を対象にラーニングセッションのオリエンテーションが行われました。ラーニングセッションとは、毎週月曜日～金曜日の19時30分～21時30分の間、授業の予習・復習などを行う時間です。ラーニングメンターのアピラク・サンゲンチャイ先生とジョムキット・ジュジャロエン先生が学生たちの課題をサポートします。今年度の前学期には教員もサポートとしてラーニングセッションに参加しています。また、ラーニングメンターや教員によるサポートだけではなく学生同士が助け合い、お互いに学び合ったりもしています。
　この日、1年生は様々なチーム活動をしました。まず初めに「Team Cup Pick-UP」という、輪ゴムに紐を均等に結び付け、その紐を引っ張り、輪ゴムを広げて紙コップに通して持ち上げ、紙コップを積み重ねていくというゲームです。次々と紙コップを掴み、1段、2段と積み上げていくチームもいれば、紐を引っ張るタイミングが中々合わず、紙コップをうまく掴むことができないチームもいました。
　次に「Common Things」が行われました。これはラーニングメンターから出題されたトピックから、お互いが共通する３つのことを最初に見つけたグループが勝ちというものです。アピラク先生とジョムキット先生は「食べ物」「スポーツ」「音楽」の3つのトピックを挙げ、学生たちは時間をかけてお互いの共通点を探しました。
　最後に「Classmate Bingo」というビンゴ大会が行われました。これは25個のマス目に「数学が好き」や「2カ国語以上話せる」など様々な情報が記載されており、学生たちはクラスメイトやラーニングメンターに質問して情報と一致した相手の名前をマス目に書き込むというゲームです。制限時間内に全部のマスを埋めることに成功した2名の学生には、ラーニングメンターから景品としてお菓子が贈られました。
　この活動を通して、学生たちはお互いの共通点を見つけることができたり、クラスメイトと会話をするきっかけができたりして、すっかり打ち解けている様子でした。

【Orientation for 1st Year Students in Learning Sessions】

 On Thursday, April 6th, 2023, an orientation for Learning Sessions was held for 1st year students. Learning Sessions are held every Monday through Friday from 19:30 to 21:30 and are a time for students to prepare for and review their classes. Learning Mentors, Apirak Sang-ngenchai sensei (Associate Lecturer) and Jomkit Jujaroen sensei (Associate Lecturer) help students with their assignments. In the first semester of this year, faculty members are also participating in the Learning Sessions to support the students. In addition to support from the Learning Mentors and faculty members, students also help and learn from each other. 
 Since this was the first learning Session for the1st year students, they had a variety of team activities.
 The first activity was Team Cup Pick-Up, a game in which teams tie a string evenly to a rubber band, pull on the string, and stretch the rubber band to lift and stack paper cups. Some teams grabbed the paper cups one after another and stacked them one by one into a pyramid, but some teams could not grab the paper cups properly because they could not pull the string at the right time.
 Next, Common Things was held. This was a topic given to by the Learning Mentors and the group that found the first three things they had in common with each other won. Apirak sensei and Jomkit sensei gave three topics "food," "sports" and "music" and the students took their time to find things they had in common with each other.
 Finally, a bingo game called Classmate Bingo was held. In this game, 25 squares were filled with various phrases, such as "I like math" or "I speak two or more languages." Students asked their classmates and Learning Mentors questions and wrote the name of the person who matched the information in the square. The two students who succeeded in filling in all the squares within the time limit received snacks as a prize from Learning Mentors.
 Through this activity, students were able to discover what they had in common and talk with their classmates. The students had a fun time playing Classmate Bingo.
