こんにちは、カメラマンのジョナサンです。2020年10月18日（日）、ネイチャー＆アドベンチャークラブの白山登山に同行してきました。白山は石川県と岐阜県にまたがる標高2702mの活火山で、富士山と立山と並んで日本三霊山のひとつです。ネイチャー＆アドベンチャークラブでは白山登山が恒例行事となっていますが、今年は9月の予定日が台風と重なってしまって18日が最後のチャンスだったのですが、ありがたいことに天候にも恵まれて実施ができました。私たちは早朝5時に玄関前に集合し、登山口の別当出合へ移動しました。前日17日に白山の初冠雪が報道されたためか、たくさんの登山客が来ていました。

準備ののち、6時半に登山を開始しました。早朝の空気は冷えていましたが、中飯場に到着する頃には上着を脱ぐほどに温まっていました。甚之助避難小屋付近では紅葉が始まった山々のパノラマが見られるようになり、学生たちは双眼鏡やカメラを使って眼中に収めていました。参加した学生のほとんどが初の白山登山で、苦しい時間もありましたがペースを調節したり声を掛け合いながら奮闘しました。黒ボコ岩を越えた弥陀ヶ原からはスカッと晴れた空をバックに御前峰が見えました。室堂に近づくと雪の出現とともに本格的に冷えてきました。全員防寒具を装着して最後の登りに臨みました。

室堂の先は気温が一気に氷点下に下がりました。風も強くなり、体感気温は真冬の雪山のようでした。頂上に到着した私たちを待っていたのは雪化粧がされた御前峰と、能登半島まで見渡せる澄み切った空でした。登頂時刻は11時頃でした。寒さで体力の消耗が激しかったので滞在時間が限られていましたが、学生たちは景色を見たり、叫んでみたりして石川県のてっぺんを堪能しました。室堂に戻ってからは昼食をとり、下山しました。黒ボコ岩まで戻ると気温も上がり、涼しいと思えるようになりました。別当出合に到着したのは15時半頃で、最後の集合写真を撮りました。辛かった者、余裕だった者、楽しかった者、様々でしたが全員が日常生活を離れ、普段見れない景色、できない体験をした貴重な一日となりました。

Hello! It's Jonathan, the camera man. On October 18, 2020, the Nature & Adventure Club held their annual Mt. Hakusan climb. Mt. Hakusan means "white mountain" in Japanese and is located across Ishikawa prefecture and Gifu prefecture. It is 2702m high and is one of Japan's three sacred mountains along with Mt. Fuji and Mt. Tateyama. The Nature & Adventure Club was scheduled to climb Hakusan in September but this was canceled because of a typhoon. October 18 was our last chance and we were rewarded for our patience with perfect skies. We gathered at front entrance of the Hakusanroku Campus at 5 am and drove to Betto-deai, the starting point on the Ishikawa prefecture side. It just snowed for the first time this year on the day before, and the parking lot was full of climbers, possibly prompted by the news.

We began our assent around 6:30 am. It was chilly at first but warmed up as the sun came up. The leaves were beautifully colored with many reds, oranges, and yellows. After Jinnosuke Cabin, the scenery opened up and we could see the panorama of mountains surrounding Hakusan. Students enjoyed this view, some with cameras and binoculars. For most of the students, this was their first time climbing Mt. Hakusan and the going was not always easy. However, students pushed on at their own pace. After Kuroboko-iwa, we could see the white peak across from Mida-ga-hara, with a blue sky background. The temperature began to decline as we approached Murodo. There, we geared up and made the final climb to the peak, Gozen-ga-mine.

The temperature dropped below 0 degrees celsius past Murodo and wind felt like a blizzard in mid winter. When we finally reached the top around 11 am, we were greeted by a freshly coated Gozen-ga-mine and blue skies so clear that you could see Noto peninsula in the distance. We enjoyed the awesome view as long as we could bear. Some students even began shouting for the fun of it. After returning to Murodo, we all ate lunch and began our decent. Temperatures finally rose again after Kugoboko-iwa and we could appreciate to cool breeze. We arrived at Betto-deai around 3:30 pm, concluding our trip with a group photo. The students' reactions to the experience differed. Some enjoyed it, some found it easier than they expected, and some vowed to never do it again. In any case, it was an unique opportunity to see new sites and try something new.

国際高専は部活として三つクラブがあります。入学生はネイチャー＆アドベンチャーかランゲージ＆カルチャーかデザイン＆ファブリケーションのクラブを選んで、いろんな活動をします。白山麓ジャーナルでみたことあると思います。今年からはもう一つのクラブができました。吹奏部というクラブです。

吹奏部は国際理工学科2年生の井上武虎くんの発議で始まりました。井上くんは学校から許可をもらって、他の参加したい学生を見つけて、そして学生主事の瀧本先生のおがけで金沢キャンパスから楽器をもらいました。

7月初旬にやっと吹奏部の部員が初めて集まれました。井上くんは2年生の松浦祐大くんにクラリネットの組み立て方と吹き方を教えてあげました。大変そうだったけど、松浦くんは頑張りました！その間に、2年生の田中杏奈さんが一人でトロンペットを学び始めました。

吹奏部のメンバーだけが音楽能力を持っているわけではありません。ピアノ、ギター、ウクレレが出来る学生もいます。残念ながら僕は音楽能力が全くないので、音楽能力がある人と一緒にいるのはとても楽しいです。国際高専の学生たちはいろんな才能があるのは素晴らしいことです。国際高専ではSTEM教育はもちろん重要ですが、学生のクリエーティブ能力を育成することもとても大切だと思います。

Students at ICT are required to join a club when they enter the school: Design & Fabrication, Language & Culture, or Nature & Adventure. I’m sure you’ve read about those clubs’ activities in previous journal entries. This academic year, however, we have a new club: Music Club.

Music Club was started on the initiative of one of our second-year students, Taketora Inoue. He gained permission to start the club, found two other students who wanted to join, and we were able to procure some instruments from Kanazawa Campus thanks to the Dean of Students, Takimoto-sensei.

At the start of July, we were finally able to have our first Music Club get-together. Taketora taught Yuudai Matsuura how to put a clarinet together and how to blow into it. It looked like hard work! Meanwhile, Anna Tanaka began teaching herself the trumpet.

It’s not just the students in Music Club who have musical ability though. We have students who can play the piano, guitar, ukulele – and those are just the ones I’ve seen! As someone with no discernible musical talent, I’m always interested to watch people play instruments, and I think it’s great that we have students at ICT with different interests and talents. Of course, STEM education is very important here at ICT, but it’s also important to nurture our students’ artistic abilities too.

The English Language and Culture Club held their first event on July 29^th. To celebrate finishing the first semester and their final exams hosted a movie night with snacks. This was the culmination of a four-week process, where the students did the following tasks

1. Selected the movie they wanted to watch
2. Made announcements about the movie in homeroom
3. Questioned their classmates about the snacks they wanted
4. Designed, made, customized and posted movie posters to promote movie night
5. Made a flyer with information about the four main characters and the actors playing them

Finally, on the 29^th, at 7:00, Mao, Shii, Afaf and Shiori gathered in the Learning Commons to set out the snacks and set up the movie. About 10 1^st and 2^nd year students joined them to celebrate the end of the semester and exams, eat snacks and watch the movie, Get Out. Get Out is a 2017 horror movie that was chosen by many organizations and publications as one of the ten best films of the year, nominated for four Academy Awards and won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

ランゲージ＆カルチャークラブが今年度初となるイベントを7月29日に開催しました。前学期の期末試験終了を祝して開催されたムービーナイト（スナック菓子あり）です。準備としてメンバーは4週かけて以下のことをしました。

1. 観たい映画の選出
2. ホームルームで映画の告知
3. クラスメイトから食べたいスナック菓子のアンケート調査
4. 上映する映画のポスターのデザイン、制作、飾りつけ
5. 主要登場人物4人の情報を載せたチラシの制作

最後に、29日の朝7時に、真央さん、史依さん、アファフさん、詩織さんがラーニングコモンズに集まってお菓子と映画のセッティングをしました。1，2年生合わせて約10名が集まって学期と試験の終わりを祝って映画「ゲット・アウト」とお菓子を堪能しました。「ゲット・アウト」は2017年のホラー映画で、多方面からその年のベスト映画トップ10に選ばれており、４つのアカデミー賞にノミネートされ、脚本賞を受賞しています。

Hello, it's Jonathan the cameraman. On June 21 (Sun), the Nature & Adventure Club finally held its first activity of the year in the form of a hike to the top of Wasso-ga-take. Due to COVID-19, clubs here at Hakusanroku Campus were restricted from doing any group activities. This restriction was lifted on the 19th and this was our first weekend after it. Our first chance was a beautiful sunny Sunday and we jumped to the opportunity.

The Nature & Adventure Club is one of Hakusanroku Campus's three clubs and focuses on interacting with the local community and nature surrounding the school. Twelve first and second year students, Yamazaki-sensei, Katabe-sensei, Philip-sensei, Owari coach, and myself gathered at the campus entrance at 8:30 am for total of 17 people. Wasso-ga-take is a mountain a couple of miles southwest of Hakusanroku campus near Tedori Lake. We started our hike from Higashi-Futakuchi. It was sunny. However, the trees protected us from the sun and most of the climb was through the cool shady woods.

We reached the top of Wasso-ga-take a little before noon and enjoyed the view over lunch. This peak is 1096m high and we could see green mountains and even Mt. Hakusan in the distance. After lunch, we split into two groups as we descended. One group went straight down and the other group, who wanted more, made a detour to a second mountain called Shironuki-yama (891m). Here, we could see Tedori Lake below. We regrouped and walked down through the woods, arriving at Higashi-Futakuchi around 2:30 pm.

Mountain climbing is one of the Nature & Adventure Club's main attractions and I was glad to finally get one done. Today's climb also gave new students a taste of what it is like, which they can use to decide whether they want to participate in the Mt. Hakusan climb planned on July 5. It seemed like the students enjoyed their walk through the woods and I hope they take up the challenge. Until then, see you!

こんにちは、カメラマンのジョナサンです！6月21日（日）にネイチャー＆アドベンチャークラブが今年最初の活動、鷲走ヶ岳登山をしました。新型コロナウィルスの影響で白山麓キャンパスはすべてのクラブ活動が禁止されていました。これが6月19日に解除され、さっそく次の週末を抑えたところ、スカっと晴れた青空に恵まれたので出動になった次第です。

ネイチャー＆アドベンチャークラブは白山麓キャンパスの3つのクラブのひとつで、周辺地域や自然と触れ合う活動を行っています。参加したのは1，2年の学生が12名、山崎先生、潟辺先生、フィリップ先生、尾張コーチ、私を含めた合計17名です。鷲走ヶ岳は白山麓キャンパスの南西に位置する山で、手取湖の近くです。当日は8：30に集合して東二口の登山口からスタートしました。日差しは強かったですが、道のほとんどは涼しい森の中だったため、心地よい木漏れ日の中を進むことができました。

鷲走ヶ岳の山頂に到着したのは12時少し前で、お昼ご飯を食べながら素敵な景色を眺めることができました。ここの標高は1096ｍで周辺の緑の山々と遠くに白山も望むことができました。帰りは二手に分かれて下山を開始しました。ひとつはまっすぐ降りるグループで、もうひとつは白抜山という2つ目の山（891m）を経由して降りる「まだ物足りない」グループです。1時間ほどで到着した白抜山の頂上からは手取湖が眼下に見えました。その後は前のグループと合流し、再び森の中を東二口まで下りました。下山は14：30頃でした。

山登りはネイチャー＆アドベンチャークラブのメインイベントのひとつなので、ようやく始動できてほっとしています。今回の登山のもうひとつの目的は新入部員に登山を体験させ、7月に予定されている白山登山に参加するかどうかの判断材料にしてもらうことです。自分が見ていた学生たちは楽しそうに歩いていたので、参加してくれたらいいな、と期待しています。その時にまたお会いしましょう。それでは！

こんにちは！国際理工学科2年の加藤大虎です。白山麓ジャーナル初投稿です。今回は”紅はるか芋の苗植え付け”のお手伝いをしました。とても楽しかったのでジャーナルにてご紹介します。

前日、天気予報では雨模様ということで、ドキドキしていましたが、当日は曇りになり、活動ができ嬉しかったです。
コロナウイルスの影響で、クラブ活動ではなく個人活動という形で、僕を合わせて友人3人と活動に参加しました。

作業内容は、クラブの先生方と地域の方がトラクター作業と苗植えの8割をしてくださり、残り2割を学生が行うというものでした。(コロナ対策として、学生が作業をしている際、先生や地元の方はトラクターの清掃作業に移り、3密を避けました)

苗の植え方は、収量が安定する船底植えという方法で行いました。畝の中央を10cm程掘り、株間40cm程で、そこに斜めに苗づるを寝かせ、茎の部分に土をかけるという植え方でした。

苗を植えている最中に、カメムシのような虫が出てきて驚きました。また、船底植えは、苗を均等に植えるのが思っていたより難しくて、悪戦苦闘しました。
秋になったらエンジニアリングデザインの授業で、今回植えた芋の収穫をするので、自分達が植えた芋の成長が大変楽しみです。昨年は猿に荒らされ、大きな被害を被ったので今年は対策をしっかりしたいです。
新緑の中で作業ができ、とても気持ちよくて楽しかったです。

Hi! My name is Daiko Kato and I am a second-year student of international college of technology. This is my first contribution to the Hakusanroku Journal. This time, we helped to plant the "Beni Haruka" potato seedlings. I enjoyed it so much, so that I'm sharing it in here.

The day before, the weather forecast said for rain, so we were nervous about it, but it turned out to be cloudy on the day, so we were happy to be able to carry out our activities.

Due to the effects of the coronavirus, it was not a club activity, but an individual activity, and I participated to the activity with three of my friends.

Eighty percent of the work was done by the club's teachers and local resident, and the remaining 20 percent was done by the students. (As a measure for COVID-19, teachers and local resident moved on to tractor cleanup work while students were working to avoid the “3MITSU”)

We planted the seedlings by used “Funazokoue” that can stable yields. “Funazokoue”: 1. Dig about 10 cm in the center of the ridges. 2. Put the sapling in a diagonal position with about 40cm between the plants. 3. Cover the stems with soil.

While I was planting the seedlings, I was surprised because of I saw a bug that looked like a stink bug. Also, it was more difficult than I expected to plant the seedlings evenly by using “Funazokoue”, so I had a hard time doing it.

In the fall, we will be harvesting the potatoes we grow in our engineering design class, so we are very much looking forward to seeing the growth of the potatoes we planted. Last year, we were ravaged by monkeys and suffered a lot of damage, so we want to take better measures this year.

It was very pleasant and fun to work in the new greenery.

"I'm sure the sweet potatoes picked in Hakusan will be delicious. I can't wait for fall. :)"
