こんにちは、白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。
　2023年8月7日（月）～8月9日（水）、白山麓キャンパスで公益財団法人海外子女教育振興財団（JOES)との共同企画「第３回 白山麓サマーワークショップ」が開催されました。小学5年生～中学3年生までの31名が参加し、２泊３日の宿泊型形式で「スタートアップ」をテーマに専門講師による指導や国際高専が実践している「エンジニアリングデザイン」などを英語で学びました。

 From Monday, August 7th to Wednesday, August 9th, 2023, the 3rd Hakusanroku Summer Workshop was held at the Hakusanroku Campus in collaboration with the Japan Overseas Educational Services (JOES). 31 participants, ranging from 5th grade elementary school students to 3rd grade junior high school students, stayed for three days and two nights to learn about "Start Up". This was done with the theme of Engineering Design, which is practiced by ICT, with guidance from expert lecturers in English.

1日目　2023年8月7日（月）

　まず始めに、松下 臣仁学科長による学校説明で、今回のワークショップで体験する本校の「English STEM教育」や「エンジニアリングデザイン教育」などの特色が紹介されました。その後、アイスブレイクとして、生徒たちはお互いを知るために自分の趣味やサマーワークショップへの期待をスケッチし、グループ内で発表しました。最初は緊張していた生徒たちも、すぐに打ち解けている様子でした。
　次にトッサ・メブサヤ准教授より、今回のテーマである「スタートアップ」について説明がありました。適切に課題を捉えることの重要性、事業を短期間で成長させ、新しい商品・サービス・事業展開を通じて社会変革を目指すこと等、事例を交えて紹介しました。続いて、ハヤト・オガワ准教授による「デザインシンキング」に関する講義と心構えの説明がありました。
　今回のワークショップのトピックは「学校生活をより良くする方法」です。生徒たちは6チームに分かれ、学校生活に潜む問題を定義し、課題設定を抽出、その問題解決に向けたアイデアづくりを行いました。生徒たちは勉強方法や学校の規則、教員とのコミュニケーションの取り方など様々な問題に焦点を当て、改善案を出し合いました。
　夕食後には、ラーニングメンターのクリシア・アティロ先生によるSTEM体験を活用した「パラシュート実験」が開催されました。生徒たちは空気抵抗を考えながら紙でパラシュートを製作し、2階から1階へパラシュートを目的地に落下させ、順位を競い合い大いに盛り上がりました。

Day 1, Monday, August 7th, 2023

 First, Omihito Matsushita sensei (Prof.) gave an introduction about ICT, explaining about the school's English STEM and Engineering Design Education that the students would experience during this workshop. Then, as an ice-breaker, students sketched out their hobbies and expectations for the summer workshop in order to get to know each other and presented them in groups. The students, who were nervous at first, quickly got to know each other.
 Next, Tossa Mebsaya sensei (Associate Professor) explained about Start Up, the theme of this session. He introduced the importance of properly grasping issues, growing a business in a short period of time and aiming for social change through the development of new products, services and businesses. Next, Hayato Ogawa sensei (Associate Professor) gave a lecture on Design Thinking and explained how to prepare for it.
 The topic of this workshop was "How to improve school life". Students were divided into 6 teams and worked together to define school life problems, identify problem settings, and develop ideas to solve those problems. Students focused on various issues such as how to study, school rules, and how to communicate with teachers and they came up with ideas to make improvements.
 After dinner, a Parachute Experiment was held, utilizing STEM experiences was held by Learning Mentor, Krishia Atillo sensei (Associate Lecturer). Students made paper parachutes while thinking about air resistance and had great fun competing for places by dropping their parachutes from the second floor to the first floor to their target.

2日目　2023年8月8日（火）

　前日に引き続き、学校生活に潜む問題解決に向けたアイデアづくりやプロトタイプの製作、ビジネスピッチのストーリー構成やパワーポイントを使ったプレゼンテーション用のスライドの作成、そして最終日に向けて発表の練習をしました。また、3Dプリンターやレーザーカッターを用いたオリジナルキーホルダーの製作や保健体育担当のフィリップ・ケザウ先生によるボルダリング体験会が開催され、生徒たちは難易度ごとに分けられた様々なコースに挑戦し楽しい時間を過ごしました。
　夕食後には、最終発表に向けてパワーポイントの作成や発表の練習、またオリジナルキーホルダー製作も引き続き行われました。

Day 2, Tuesday, August 8th, 2023

 Continuing from the previous day, the students created ideas and prototypes to solve school life problems, composed a storyline for a business pitch, created slides for a PowerPoint presentation and practiced their presentations for the final day. In addition, students made original key chains using a 3D printer and laser cutter. They also had a fun time bouldering with Philip Cadzow sensei, the Health and Physical Education teacher, as they tried various courses divided by difficulty level.
 After dinner, the students continued to prepare for their final presentations by finalizing PowerPoint presentations, practicing their presentations and making original key chains.

3日目　2023年8月9日（水）

　最終日には、多くの保護者が子供たちの成果を見るために白山麓キャンパスに集まりました。生徒たちはグループごとに英語で「学校生活をより良くする方法」のアイデアを発表しました。発表の様子は下のビデオで視聴することができます。発表後、鹿田 正昭校長より、生徒たちに修了証書が手渡しされ、サマーワークショップは幕を閉じました。
　今回のワークショップは英語で行うという内容でしたが、年齢や学校、出身地域などが異なる様々なバックグラウンドの参加者が集まっており、参加者はその知識を生かし、様々な方向からアイデアを出し合いました。このような新たな価値を創造するための考え方やプロセス、協働によるモノづくりやストーリーづくりの経験は、生徒たちの今後の学びに活かすことができるのではないでしょうか。
　２泊3日という短い期間でしたが、生徒たちの短期間での成長ぶりに大変驚くとともに、この中から一人でも多くの生徒が本校での体験に魅力感じ、入学に繋がればと思います。

Day 3, Wednesday, August 9th, 2023

 On the last day, parents gathered at the Hakusanroku Campus to see their children's achievements. Each group of students presented their ideas, in English, on how to improve school life. The presentations can be viewed in the video below. After the presentations, President Masaaki Shikada handed out certificates to the students, bringing the Summer Workshop to a close. 
 Although this workshop was conducted in English, the participants came from a variety of backgrounds including different ages, schools and regions of origin, so they used their knowledge to share ideas from many different directions. This kind of thinking and process for creating new value, as well as the experience of creating products and stories through collaboration, will be useful for the students' future studies.
 Although it was only a short period of three days and two nights, I was very surprised at how much the students grew in such a short period of time. We hope that as many of them as possible will find the experience at our school fascinating and will enroll in our school.

　こんにちは。白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。2023年6月25日（日）から7月1日（土）まで「ICT GLOBAL SUMMER CAMP」を開催しました。このプログラムは2018年と2019年の夏と冬に開催していましたが、新型コロナウイルスの影響で2020年から中止していました。今回は4年ぶりにタイ王国（以下：タイ）の中学生15名が参加し、AIやIoTを用いたデザイン思考やエンジニアリングデザインの手法を活用したプロジェクト型学習を体験しました。

 Hello, this is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku Office. The ICT GLOBAL SUMMER CAMP was held from Sunday, June 25 to Saturday, July 1, 2023. This program had been held in the summer and winter of 2018 and 2019, but was suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19. This time, for the first time in four years, 15 junior high school students from Thailand participated in the project-based learning experience utilizing design thinking and engineering design methods with AI and IoT technologies.

1日目　2023年6月25日（日）

　初日は、タイの中学生（以下：生徒）とご家族が白山麓キャンパスに来校し、松下 臣仁先生による「English STEM教育」や「エンジニアリングデザイン教育」など国際高専の特色を紹介した後、キャンパスツアーが行われました。

Day 1, Sunday, June 25th, 2023

 On the first day, Thai junior high school students and their families came to the Hakusanroku Campus. There was a school explanation by Omihito Matsushita sensei and an introduction to the features of the ICT, including English STEM Education and Engineering Design Education. After this, the students and their families took a campus tour.

2日目　2023年6月26日（月）

　まずはアイスブレイクとして、生徒たちは自分の趣味やサマーキャンプへの期待をスケッチし、一人ずつ発表しました。生徒たちは「日本の文化を学びたい」や「エンジニアリングをたくさん学んでタイに持ち帰りたい！」など様々な想いを発表してくれました。その後、ハヤト・オガワ先生による「エンジニアリングデザイン」の導入ワークショップが行われました。生徒たちは3つのグループに分かれ、「最新のオリジナルマグカップ」のデザインを話し合い、それぞれのデザインを発表しました。
　午後には、ナグワ・ラシィド先生による化学実験教室が開催され、「窒素酸化物」や「酸性雨」が公害に繋がることについて実験を通して学びました。その後、フィリップ・ケザウ先生から体育館の使い方の説明を受け、生徒たちはバスケットボールやバドミントンなどをして体を動かした後、白山麓キャンパス内にある「比咩の湯」温泉を利用しました。生徒たちは「今まで行った温泉の中で一番気持ちよかった！」と大満足の様子でした。
　夕食後には、希望者を対象に松下先生指導のもと、オリジナルキーホルダー作りが行われました。各自パソコンで絵柄をデザインし、レーザーカッターを用いて作成しました。参加者はレーザーカッターが自動的に加工していく様子を興味深げに覗いていました。

Day 2, Monday, June 26th, 2023

 First, as an ice-breaker, students drew their hobbies and expectations for the summer camp and presented them one by one. Students had various ideas such as "I want to learn about Japanese culture" and "I want to learn a lot of engineering and bring it back to Thailand!” After that, an introductory workshop called Engineering Design was held by Hayato Ogawa sensei. The students were divided into three groups, discussed about The Latest Original Mug, designed a mug and presented it.
 In the afternoon, a chemistry lab class was held by Nagwa Rashed sensei. Students learned through experiments about nitrogen oxides and acid rain that lead to pollution.  After that, Philip Cadzow sensei explained how to use the gymnasium, and the students exercised by playing basketball and badminton, and then went to use Hime No Yu hot spring located on Hakusanroku Campus. The students were very satisfied with their hot spring experience, saying, "This is the best hot spring I have ever been to!”
 After dinner, students who wished to participate made their own original key chains under the guidance of Matsushita sensei. They created their own design on a computer and made the keychain using a laser cutter. They watched with interest as the laser cutter automatically processed the design.

 

3日目　2023年6月27日（火）

　3日目からはいよいよサマーキャンプのプロジェクト活動が開始しました。午前中はブランドン・ウォルファース先生による「プロジェクトガイダンス」が行われました。今回生徒たちに課されたテーマは以下の2つでした。
・AIやIoTを活用して観光産業を改善するための創造的な解決策を考える
・画像認識のAIモデルを作成する
　まずは金沢の観光産業におけるステークホルダーを見つけ出し、利害関係者となりうる人物を見つけるという課題が課され、生徒たちは金沢の観光地について下調べをしました。
　午後は、東茶屋街や兼六園、金沢城を観光しながら、観光地における課題解決に向けて調査しました。もちろん、金箔ソフトクリームや和菓子を堪能しながら金沢観光も満喫しました。
　夕食後には、日本語講座が行われ、簡単な日本語の挨拶の言い方や自分の名前を日本語で書く練習、日本の歌「上を向いて歩こう」を歌う練習をしました。

Day 3, Tuesday, June 27th, 2023

 On the third day, the summer camp project activities finally began. In the morning, Brandon Wohlfarth sensei gave the students a Project Guidance session. The following two themes were assigned to the students this time.
・Developing solutions to improve the tourism industry by using AI and IoT technologies.
・Developing an AI model for image recognition.
 First, students were assigned the task of finding stakeholders and potential stakeholders in Kanazawa's tourism industry, and conducted preliminary research on Kanazawa's tourist attractions.  
 In the afternoon, while touring Higashi Chaya District, Kenroku Garden, and Kanazawa Castle, the students conducted research to find solutions to problems in the tourist areas. Of course, they also enjoyed Kanazawa sightseeing, and had a chance to eat gold leaf soft serve ice cream and Japanese sweets.
 After dinner, a Japanese language class was held, where the students learned simple greetings, how to write their own names in Japanese, and how to sing a Japanese song called Ue Wo Muite Arukou.

 

4日目　2023年6月28日（水）

　午前中には、前日の観光先で発見した問題点からお店や観光客、建物が抱えていることに着目し問題定義しました。続いて、アピラク・サンゲンチャイ先生指導のもと、AIプログラミングについての講義や演習を行いました。
　午後には、石川県ふれあい昆虫館へ出かけ、「画像認識のAIモデル作成」に向け、昆虫のデータ収集をしました。生徒たちは蝶々やトンボ、バッタ、カブトムシ、その他昆虫を様々な角度から50枚撮影するという課題が課され、時間をかけて写真撮影に取り組みました。石川県ふれあい昆虫館を退館後、白山比咩神社へ向かい、日本の風情を楽しみました。
　夕食後には、後日開催する国際高専生（以下：本校の学生）との交流会に備え、本校の学生たちに向けてタイ語やタイの文化、タイの有名Youtuberなど様々なトピックの内容を話す準備をしました。

Day 4, Wednesday, June 28th, 2023

　In the morning, students defined the problems they had discovered while sightseeing the previous day. Students focused on the problems faced by stores, tourists and buildings. Then, under the guidance of Apirak Sang-ngenchai (Learning mentor) sensei, the students attended lectures and exercises on AI programming.
 In the afternoon, the students went to the Ishikawa Insect Museum to collect insect data for creating AI models for image recognition. Students were assigned the task of taking 50 pictures of butterflies, dragonflies, grasshoppers, beetles and other insects from various angles. Students took their time in taking the pictures. After leaving the Ishikawa Insect Museum, the students headed to enjoy the Japanese atmosphere of Hakusan Hime Shrine.
 After dinner, in preparation for the exchange meeting with ICT students to be held later in the day, they prepared to speak to ICT students on various topics such as Thai language, Thai culture, and famous Thai YouTubers.

5日目　2023年6月29日（木）

　午前中には、観光先で発見した問題点について、解決策をさらに掘り下げ、改善点をまとめ、最終日のプレゼンテーションに向けてポスターを作成しました。
　午後はAIプログラミングで使用する「CiRA CORE」を活用して基本的なプログラミングを学んだ後、３つのチームに分かれて、前日に撮影した石川県ふれあい昆虫館の昆虫の写真を用いて画像認識システムを制作しました。
　放課後には、本校の学生たちとの「第1回 国際交流会」が開催されました。この日は本校の学生たちがタイの生徒たちに日本について紹介しました。本校の学生1名とタイの生徒2名が1グループとなり、本校の学生たちが日本語での挨拶や自己紹介の言い方などをレクチャーし、タイの生徒たちは1人ずつ日本語を発表しました。その後、本校の学生たちは折り紙で手裏剣の折り方をレクチャーしました。

Day 5, Thursday, June 29th, 2023

 In the morning, students further explored solutions to problems they discovered, summarized improvements and created posters for presentation on the final day.
 In the afternoon, the students learned basic programming utilizing CiRA CORE, which is used for AI programming. Then, the students were divided into three teams to create an image recognition system using photos of insects from the Ishikawa Insect Museum taken the day before.
 After school, the "1st International Exchange event" with ICT students was held. On this day, ICT students introduced Japan to Thai students. One ICT student and two Thai students formed a group, and the ICT students gave lectures on greetings and self-introductions in Japanese. And then, 1 by 1 the Thai students demonstrated what they had learned. After that, the ICT students gave a lecture on how to fold a shuriken using origami!

6日目　2023年6月30日（金）

　午前中には、最終日の発表に向けた最終準備としてポスター制作を行った後、フィリップ先生レクチャーのもと、ボルダリング体験会が行われ、ホールド（大小様々な形をした色分けされた突起物）を使った登り方を学び、難易度ごとに分けられた様々なコースに挑戦しました。
　午後には、加賀 伝統工芸村「ゆのくにの森」へ出かけ、金箔貼りを体験しました。生徒たちはトレーに金箔を1枚貼り、竹串で手書きしてデザインしました。金箔に日本語を書く生徒もいれば、アニメのキャラクターを描く生徒など、それぞれ思い思いに型を作り、オリジナルの金箔工芸品を完成させました。
　放課後には、本校の学生たちとの「第2回 国際交流会」が開催されました。この日はタイの生徒たちが本校の学生たちにタイについて紹介しました。本校の学生たちとタイの生徒たちは3つのグループに分かれました。タイの生徒たちは本校の学生たちにタイ語であいさつを教えた後、本校の学生たちは1人ずつタイ語を披露しました。そしてタイの生徒たちはタイの文化や食べ物などを本校の学生たちに紹介した後、タイの生徒たちは日本の歌「上を向いて歩こう」を披露し、国際交流会は終了しました。本校の学生たちは入学してから初となる国際交流となり、英語を実際に活用しながら楽しそうにコミュニケーションを取っているのが印象的でした！

Day 6, Friday, June 30th, 2023

 In the morning, the students worked on their posters as a final preparation for their presentations on the last day. After that, a hands-on bouldering session was held under the direction of Philip sensei. The students learned how to climb using holds (color-coded projections of various shapes and sizes) and tried various courses divided by difficulty level. 
 In the afternoon, the students went to Kaga Traditional Craft Village "Yunokuni no Mori" to experience gold leaf pasting. Students applied a sheet of gold leaf to a tray and hand-drew designs on it with a bamboo stick. Some students wrote Japanese words on gold leaf, some students drew Anime characters - students created their own molds to complete their original gold leaf crafts.
 After school, the "2nd International Exchange event" with ICT students was held. On this day, Thai students introduced Thailand to ICT students. ICT students and Thai students were divided into three groups. The Thai students taught ICT students greetings in Thai, and then ICT students performed Thai greetings one by one. Finally, the Thai students sang a Japanese song called Ue Wo Muite Aruko to ICT students and the international exchange event was over. This was the first international exchange event for ICT students since they entered the school and it was impressive to see them enjoying communicating with each other while actually using English!

7日目　2023年7月1日（土）

　最終日には生徒たちのご家族を白山麓キャンパスにお招きし、「エンジニアリングデザインプロジェクト」発表会が行われました。各チームは観光地で発見した問題を改善するための創造的な解決策を発表しました。発表の内容は下の動画をご覧ください！
　発表後には「画像認識AIモデルコンペティション」が行われました。アピラク先生は、生徒たちが「石川県ふれあい昆虫館」で撮影した昆虫の写真がどれだけAIが認識しているか披露し、認識度の点数が発表されると会場は大いに盛り上がりました！そして生徒たちは「上を向いて歩こう」を合唱した後、鹿田校長から修了証書が手渡されました。最後には、金沢キャンパス「夢考房」の見学をしてグローバルサマーキャンプの幕を閉じました。

　生徒たちは緊張した姿を見せずに堂々と発表していたので、感心しました。今回のプロジェクト型学習を通じて、AIやIoTを活用したプロジェクト活動をチームで創り上げる楽しさを体感できたのではないでしょうか。また、生徒たちは本校の学生たちとの国際交流を楽しんでいる姿も印象的でした。

Day 7, Saturday, July 1st, 2023

 On the last day, the Thai students' families were invited to the Hakusanroku Campus for an Engineering Design Project presentation. Each team presented a creative solution to improve a problem they discovered at a tourist attraction. Please watch the video below to see the presentations!
 After the presentations, an AI model competition for image recognition was held. Apirak sensei presented how well the AI recognized the photos of insects taken by the students at the Ishikawa Insect Museum, and the audience was very excited when Apirak sensei announced the recognition scores! The students then sang Ue Wo Muite Arukou and President Shikada handed out certificates to the participating students. The Global Summer Camp ended with a tour of YUMEKOBO on the Kanazawa Campus.

 I was impressed by the students as they gave their presentations in a dignified manner without showing any signs of nervousness. Through this project-based learning program, I believe that the students were able to experience the fun of creating project activities using AI and IoT as a team. It was also impressive to see the students enjoying the international exchange with ICT students.

　こんにちは、白山麓事務室の本田です。
　2023年6月3日（土）、白山麓キャンパスでは希望者を対象としたサイクリングイベントを開催しました。
　台風２号の影響で前日も雨が残っていましたが、天気予報では夜から晴れ予報となっていたことから、実施に向け、私と山崎先生とフィリップ先生は参加学生達の自転車点検を実施しました。
　当日は曇り空の涼しいサイクリング日和となり、白山麓キャンパス玄関前に9:00に集合し出発しました。まずは白山麓キャンパスから田園風景の中を下っていきました。白山麓キャンパスから16.5km程走行したところにある樹齢1200年と言われる「五十谷の大杉」まで進み記念写真をパシャリ！ここからは登りが徐々にきつくなり始め、3kmほど先の今回の最高到達点となる標高約390m地点まで登りました。しかし先は長いので無理は禁物です。その後は登った頑張りが報われる長い下り坂を進んでいきました。そして9km程進んだ所にある十二ヶ滝で休憩しました。昨年のサイクリングイベントでは、暑い中、多くの学生が川の中に飛びこみ泳いだ場所です（June 29, 2022 ネイチャー＆アドベンチャークラブ「65kmサイクリング」）。休憩を終え次に向かう目的地は、約23km先の白山比咩神社です。途中、今回最下地点の標高約13m地点まで下ったあと緩やかに上りながら、今回一番の急坂を迎えました。その後、白山比咩神社まで下り基調で脚を休めながら進んでいき、白山比咩神社手前にある吊り橋を渡ったところでようやく昼食休憩です。お店の中で定食を食べたり、大判焼きやたこ焼きを食べたりして、ゆっくり休憩しました。ここから白山麓キャンパスまでは残り約20kmとなりました。ゆったりとした登りを自転車道のキャニオンロードで帰りました。途中13km程進んだ所で大きくて綺麗な綿ヶ滝を背に記念撮影し、標高差90m程を約7kmかけて登り、白山麓キャンパスまで戻ってきました。
　出発する時に曇っていた空も、途中からは青空になり、学生達は日焼けで赤くなっていましたが、転倒やパンク等もなく気持ちよく終えることができました。

 Hello, this is Honda from the Hakusanroku office.
 On Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, Hakusanroku Campus held a cycling event for those who wanted to participate.
 The day before the event, there was still some rain due to Typhoon No. 2, but the weather forecast called for clear skies in the evening, so Yamazaki sensei, Philip sensei, and I inspected the bicycles of the participating students before the event.
 On the day of the event, the weather was cloudy and cool, which is good for cycling. We gathered for departure at 9:00 a.m. at the entrance of Hakusanroku Campus. We started from Hakusanroku Campus and rode down through the countryside. After riding for about 16.5 kms from Hakusanroku campus, we arrived at "Gojyutani no osugi", a 1200 years old cedar, and snapped a commemorative photo! From there, the climb began to get tougher and tougher, and after about 3kms, we reached the highest point of the day, about 390 meters above sea level. However, we still had a long way to go and made a long 9km descent to the Twelve Waterfalls and took a break. This is where many students jumped into the river and swam to cool down during our cycling event last year (June 29, 2022 Nature & Adventure Club 65km Cycling ). After a rest, the next destination was Hakusan Hime Shrine, about 23 kms away. On the way down, we descended to the lowest point of the tour, about 13 meters above sea level, and then gently climbed up to the steepest hill of the trip. After cresting this hill, we continued downhill to Hakusan Hime Shrine, resting our legs, and finally took a lunch break when we crossed the suspension bridge in front of Hakusan Hime Shrine. We had a meal of oobayaki and okonomiyaki in the restaurant. From there, we had about a 20 km ride back to Hakusanroku Campus. We had a leisurely uphill ride back on the Tedori Canyon Road bike path. We took a commemorative photo with the large and beautiful Watarigataki Waterfall in the background at the 13 km point, and then we continued on, climbing 90 meters over the last 7kms before getting back to Hakusanroku campus.
 The sky, which was cloudy when we started out, turned blue during our ride. At the end of the ride all of the students were sunburnt, but we were able to finish the ride comfortably without any falls or flat tires.

 Hello everyone! This is Jomkit Jujaroen, a Learning Mentor. It’s not often that I write these journals, but I wanted to talk a little bit about the Welcome Party, we the Learning Mentors, held for 1st year students at the end of April 2023. Of course, it wasn’t only restricted to the 1st year students; many 2nd year students were also happy to join. 

 We like to hold the Welcome Party at the beginning of every academic year to help remind the students to take a break and enjoy themselves every now and then. This year the party was held on the optional Friday Learning Session. The students enjoyed some activities, like Karaoke at the grand staircase, and playing the popular party game Super Smash Bro’s Ultimate in the project booth. The Learning Mentors also brought many snacks; some were requested, some common crowd pleasers, and even some special snacks from other countries. For instance, Birthday Cake-flavored Oreos and Toffee Crunch-flavored Oreos. 

It was impressive that the 1st and 2nd year students seemed to be having a good time.

　みなさんこんにちは！ラーニングメンターのジョムキット・ジュジャロエンです。私はこのようなジャーナルを書くことはあまりないのですが、2023年4月末に私たちラーニングメンターが1年生のために開催した歓迎会について少しお話しします。もちろん、1年生だけではなく、たくさんの2年生も歓迎会に参加してくれました。

　毎年、年度初めに開催している歓迎会は、学生たちに楽しい時間を過ごしてもらい、息抜きをしてもらうために開催しています。今年は参加が自由となる金曜日のラーニングセッションの時間に歓迎会を開催しました。学生たちはカラオケを大階段でしたり、人気のパーティゲーム「大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズ SPECIAL」をプロジェクトブースでするなど様々な活動を楽しみました。また、ラーニングメンターたちは、学生たちからリクエストのあったお菓子の他に学生たちが好きそうなお菓子やバースデーケーキ味のオレオやトフィークランチ味のオレオといった海外の特別なお菓子をたくさん準備しました。

　楽しそうに過ごしている１、2年生が印象的でした。

　こんにちは、白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。今回は２月の課外授業で行われた様々なワークショップについて紹介します。

 Hello, this is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku office. I would like to write about the various extracurricular workshops held in February.

【ペン回し】

　2023年2月6日（月）、ラーニングメンターのジョムキット・ジュジャロエン先生による「ペン回し」ワークショップが開催されました。ジョムキット先生は普段学業に励んでいる学生たちに何か楽しいことを教えられないかと考えた結果、ジョムキット先生が学生時代にハマっていた「ペン回し」を教えようと、このワークショップを開催したそうです。
　ジョムキット先生は親指を中心にペンを回転させる技や2本の指の間にペンを挟んで回転させる技、4本の指を使ってペンを回転させるトリック技などを学生たちにレクチャーしました。ペン回しに苦戦する学生もいれば、ペンではなくドラムスティックを器用に扱い、指で華麗にドラムスティックを回転させている学生もいました。
　ペン回しという行為は、緊張しているときや難しい課題に取り組んでいるときに、脳に何かを考えるきっかけを与えたり、ペン回しをすることで緊張がほぐれたりすると言われおり、ジョムキット先生は学生たちに身近にある自分のペンを使って、集中力を高めたり、緊張をほぐしたりする助けになれば嬉しいと語りました。

【Pen spinning】

 On Monday, February 6^th, a workshop called Pen Spinning was held by Learning Mentor, Jomkit Jujaroen sensei. Jomkit sensei wanted to teach something fun to students, who are usually hard at work on their schoolwork. He decided to hold this workshop to teach them pen spinning, which Jomkit sensei was addicted to when he was a student.
 Jomkit sensei taught the students pen spinning techniques such as spinning a pen around the thumb, spinning a pen between two fingers and a tricky technique to spin a pen using all four fingers. Some students struggled with pen spinning. Others used a drumstick instead of a pen and spun the drumstick in a spectacular manner.
 The act of pen spinning can help the brain to concentrate when it is nervous or working on a difficult task and spinning a pen can help to relieve tension. He said he would be happy if he could help his students to focus and relax by using their own pens.

【Pythonの基礎を学ぶ】

　2023年2月8日（水）、2月10日（金）、2月15日（水）の3日間、伊藤 周先生による「Pythonの基礎を学ぶ」ワークショップが開催されました。学生たちはPythonの基本的なコードの書き方を学んだ後、条件分岐、繰り返し、乱数生成の関数を学習しました。ワークショップの最後には、プログラムによってランダムに発生させた数字を人間が当てる「数当てゲーム」のプログラムを作成するという課題に取り組み、全員がプログラムを完成させることができました。

【Learning the Basics of Python】

 On Wednesday, February 8th, Friday, February 10th and Wednesday, February 15th, a workshop called Learning the Basics of Python was held by Meguru Ito sensei (Pro.). Students learned how to write basic Python code and then learned functions for conditional branching, iteration and random number generation. At the end of the workshop, the students were challenged to create a program for a number-guessing game in which the player has to guess a random computer-generated number.

【ハンドレタリング】

　2023年2月9日（木）、ラーニングメンターのアン・イソベル・タン先生による「ハンドレタリング」ワークショップが開催されました。ハンドレタリングとは、カリグラフィーと呼ばれる技法の一種で、カラーペンや筆ペンを使ってアルファベットを独特のタッチで書くことです。これによって、スタイリッシュでおしゃれな仕上がりになります。
　学生たちは自分の名前をハンドレタリングするという課題を課され、書体の見本を模写し書き方を何度も練習していたり、思いついた書体で自分の名前をスラスラと書き始めたり、友達の名前をその人のイメージに合わせて書いたりしました。学生たちが書いた文字は、手書き文字ならではの温かさや柔らかさが表れていました。

【Hand Lettering】

 On Thursday, February 9th, a workshop called Hand Lettering was held by Learning Mentor, Anne Isobel Tan sensei. Hand lettering is a calligraphy technique in which the alphabet is written using colored pens or brush pens. This gives it a unique and stylish look.
 Students were assigned the task of hand-lettering their own names and some students copied a sample typeface and practiced how to write it over and over again. Other students wrote their names using a type face that came to them in the spur of the moment. Some other students used their image of their classmates to design how names were written by the students showed the warmth and softness that only hand-written letters can express.

【CiRA COREを使ったAIプログラミング】

　2023年2月15日（水）、ラーニングメンターのアピラク・サンゲンチャイ先生による「CiRA COREを使ったAIプログラミング」ワークショップが行われました。CiRA COREはドラッグ&ドロップ式のブロック型プログラミングプラットフォームです。学生たちはプログラムのフローの書き方を学び、物体の識別や顔認証の実験をしました。学生たちはコンピュータが自分の顔を認識してくれたことに驚き、強く関心を示している様子でした。

【AI Programming with CiRA CORE】

 On Wednesday, February 15th, a workshop called AI Programming with CiRA CORE workshop was held by Learning Mentor, Apirak Sang-ngenchai sensei. CiRA CORE is a drag-and-drop block programming platform. Students learned how to write program flows and experimented with object identification and face recognition. The students were surprised that the computer recognized their faces and they showed strong interest in the program.

【動画制作】

　2023年2月17日（金）と2月22日（水）の2日間、ナグワ・ラシィド先生による「動画制作」ワークショップが開催されました。まずは動画制作が得意な3年生のアファフ・アラーさんがZoomで参加者に向けて、動画撮影のコツや編集アプリの紹介、頭の中にあるイメージを書きだすシナリオ制作などをレクチャーした後、学生たちは2グループに分かれ、「実験室ですべきこと、すべきでないこと」を紹介する動画の制作に取り組みました。学生たちは実験室での飲食や髪型、緊急時の対応（事故・応急処置）、実験器具の取り扱いなどを自ら演出、撮影、動画の編集を行いました。

【Filmmaking】

 On Friday, February 17th and Wednesday, February 22nd, a two-day Filmmaking workshop was held by Nagwa Fekri Rashed sensei (Prof.). First, Afaf Alaa, a 3rd

year student who excels at video production, gave a lecture via Zoom to the participants on tips for shooting videos, introducing editing applications and how to use the images in their minds to create scenarios. The students were divided into two groups and worked on a videos introducing What To Do and What Not To Do in the laboratory. Students directed, filmed and edited their own videos about things such as handling emergencies (accidents and first aid), handling lab equipment, as well as rules about hairstyles and eating and drinking in the laboratory.

【送別会】

　2023年2月27日（火）、白山麓キャンパスで寮生活を終える2年生と離任する教員の送別会が行われました。離任する教員の潟辺 豊先生とアン・イソベル・タン先生には、学生たちから寄せ書きと柿田 紗蘭さん（2年生）が描いた似顔絵入りのTシャツが贈られました。その後、学生たちと教員たちはピザを食べながらお話したり、クッキーにアイシングしたりして、白山麓キャンパスで共に過ごす最後の時間を楽しみました。
　4月からの新3年生は、1年間のニュージーランド オタゴポリテクニクで留学生活という新たな冒険が待っています。この留学生活は学生たちにとって、とても大きな経験になることでしょう。新3年生の活躍がより一層楽しみです。

【Farewell Party】

 On Tuesday, February 27th, a farewell party was held at the Hakusanroku campus for the 2nd year students who would be leaving the dormitory and for departing faculty members. The students presented Yutaka Katabe sensei (Prof.) and Learning Mentor, Anne Isobel Tan sensei with message cards and T-shirts with portraits drawn by Saran Kakita, a 2nd year student. Afterwards, students and faculty enjoyed their last time together at the Hakusanroku Campus, talking while eating pizza and decorating cookies together.
 In April, the new 3^rd year students will begin their new adventure of studying abroad at Otago Polytechnic in New Zealand for one year. This study abroad experience will be a great experience for the students. We are look forward to the success of these students.
