こんにちは、白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。今回は２月に課外授業で行った様々なワークショップについて紹介します。 
 Hello, this is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku office. Today, I would like to introduce some activities held in February.

ワールドランゲージ

　2月８日（火）に外国人教員による特別外国語講座が行われました。アラー先生とナグワ先生によるアラビア語、ハズワン先生によるマレー語、アピラク先生によるタイ語、ドーサフ先生によるフランス語の４つの言語から学生たちは２つ選択し受講しました。学生たちは未知の言語を学べる機会とあって、好奇心でいっぱいでした。講座では簡単な挨拶、名前の書き方、伝統的な遊びを体験し、多様な文化に親しみました。学生たちは普段英語で授業を行っているので、英語以外の言語に目を向ける貴重な機会となりました。

World Languages

On Tuesday, February 8th, special foreign language classes were held. Students could choose two of the following four languages to study: Arabic by Alaa sensei (Prof.) and Nagwa sensei (Prof.), Malay by Hazwan sensei (Prof.), Thai by Apirak sensei (Associate Lecturer), and French by Dorsaf sensei (Prof.). The students were full of curiosity at the opportunity to learn about unknown languages. In the courses, they learned simple greetings, how to write their names, played traditional games, and learned about other cultures. Usually, students take most of their classes in English, so this was a good opportunity for them to learn about other languages and cultures.

英語の日

　2月18日（金）に「英語の日」という英語科の教員とラーニングメンターが計画したゲームや活動を通して英語に触れるイベントが行われました。
　まずは、少人数で様々なゲームが行われました。「Choose your own adventure」という動画を鑑賞しながら物語を選択し、それによりエンディングが変わる選択型ゲーム、お題に沿って漫画を描きながらバトルする「MANGAKA」ゲーム、お互いの正体を探り合う会話型のパーティーゲーム「Spy-Fall 2」が行われました。色々なゲームを英語で体験し、楽しい時間となりました。
　次に「英文句読点ゲーム」が行われました。これは英語の教員によって作成された不完全な英文法に句読点や感嘆符などを付け加え、正しい英文を作るゲームです。正解者は、紙の王冠に句読点や感嘆符などが貼られ、素敵な王冠を作り上げました。また料理が得意なエドワード先生は景品としてクッキーを学生にプレゼントしました。
　その後、「Let‘s Chat」という学生たちが教職員に英語でインタビューし、スタンプを貯めてミッションをクリアしていくイベントが行われました。教職員たちは翻訳機を使ってでも、必ず英語で返答しなければならず、清掃員、警備員、看護師、職員らはこの日のために心構えをしていました。学生たちは教職員に趣味、経験、家族、ICTでの生活について質問し、英語でのコミュニケーションを楽しみました。学生たちは教職員のことを知る良いきっかけになったのではないでしょうか。
　午後からは、体育館で学生と教員の合同チームで障害物競争が行われました。まず「目隠し迷路ゲーム」では、各チームの教員が目隠しをし、学生たちから英語で指示を受けながら前進し、ゴールを目指しました。床にテープで貼られた迷路の道から1ミリでも外れると、スタート地点に戻らければならなかったので、学生たちは慎重に教員に指示を出していました。次に「障害物伝言ゲーム」が行われました。ハードルなど障害物が用意され、先にある英文の記憶をする必要があったのですが、走っているうちに伝言を忘れてしまう学生が続出し、最終的には伝言がうまく伝わらなかったチームが続々と現れました。最後にエドワード先生が制作したオリジナルの「ツイスターゲーム」が行われました。ユニークなポージングが生まれ、笑いが絶えない時間となりました。そして優勝チームには、校長先生から景品としてお菓子が贈られました。
　このイベント終了後、学生たちから「楽しかった！」との声がありました。学生たちは英語を用いた様々な活動を通し、キャンパス内で多くの教職員とコミュニケーションを図れたのではないでしょうか。

English Day

 On Friday, February 18th, an English Day was held by the English Department faculty members and Learning Mentors, so students could participate in English games and activities.
 First, three different games were played in small groups. One was game called Choose Your Own Adventure, in which students made choices in a story while watching a video. Each choice changed the direction of the story so that many different endings were possible. Another game was MANGAKA, in which students battled each other while creating an original manga according to a theme. The last game was a conversational party game called Spy-Fall 2. In this game participants tried to figure out each other's identities. Students played these games in English and had a great time.
 Next was the English Punctuation Party. In this game, students had to add punctuation to a sentence in order to produce a correct sentence. For correct answers, students received cookies from Edward sensei (Prof.), who is an excellent cook, and were able to make a paper crown with exclamation marks and apostrophes pasted on them. Each student made their own lovely crown.
 Later, there was an event called Let's Chat. Students interviewed teachers and staff members in English, accumulating stamps to complete their missions. Staff members had to respond in English, even if they had to use a translator, and the cleaners, security guards, nurses, and office staffs had prepared themselves for this day. The students enjoyed communicating with the teachers and staff members in English, asking them questions about their hobbies, experiences, families, and life at ICT. It was a good opportunity for the students to get to know more about the teachers and staff members
 In the afternoon, a team obstacle race was held in the gymnasium, with teams composed of both students and teachers. First, an obstacle course message game race was held, in which students had to memorize English sentences at the end of an obstacle course, and return to communicate the sentences to their team - hurdles and other obstacles were prepared, but many students forgot their messages while running, and in the end, many teams failed to communicate their messages quickly enough. Next, a blindfold maze game was held, in which the teacher in each team was blindfolded, and instructed in English by the students, to navigate the maze to reach the goal. The teacher had to return to the starting point if they stepped outside the taped path by even a millimeter, so students carefully gave instructions to the teachers. Finally, an original Twister game was created by Edward sensei, that produced unique poses and lots of laughter. The winning team received sweets as a prize from President Barksdale.
 After this event, the students said, "That was fun!". I hope that the students were able to communicate with teachers and staff members on campus through various activities using English.

 

２年生を送る会

　2月28日（月）に白山麓キャンパスで寮生活を終える2年生の送別会が行われました。まずは1年生から2年生にメッセージカードを送り、2年生は下級生にお別れの言葉を述べました。そして2年間の活動を振り返るスライドショーを鑑賞し、思い出に浸りました。最後に、2年生担任の潟辺先生がお別れの言葉を述べ、2年生のキルパラーニ アニッシュさんによるピアノ演奏と小髙先生の指揮の元、全員で「旅立ちの日に」を合唱しました。
　新3年生では、新たな生活が始まります。今後の新型コロナウイルスの感染状況は予測できませんが、状況が緩和され、少しでも早くニュージーランドのオタゴ・ポリテクニクへ留学に行けることを願います。3年生に進級する皆さんの活躍がより一層楽しみです。

Farewell party for 2nd year students

 On Monday, February 28th, a farewell party was held for 2nd year students who will finish their dormitory life at the Hakusanroku Campus. First, the 1st year students sent message cards to the 2nd year students, and the 2nd year students made good bye speeches to the 1st year students. Then, we watched a slideshow of pictures taken during the two years they were here. Finally, 2nd grade homeroom teacher Katabe sensei (Prof.) gave his farewell speech, and all the students sang a song together accompanied on the piano by 2nd grade student Anish Kirpalani and conducted by Kodaka sensei (Prof.).　
 The new 3rd year students will begin their new life. We cannot predict the future status of the spread of COVID-19, but I hope that the situation will calm down and that they will be able to go to Otago Polytechnic in New Zealand to study as soon as possible.

　みなさん、こんにちは。白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。
　いきなりですが、みなさんの学生生活の思い出は何ですか？私は食堂で美味しい日替わり定食を食べることでした！勉強から解放され、食堂で楽しく食事をとることが、唯一の息抜きでした。
　もちろん、白山麓キャンパスで寮生活を送っている学生たちにとっても食事はとても重要です。白山麓キャンパスのカフェテリア「Golden Eagle Cafeteria」では、過去に提供された食事の人気投票が行われました。その中で、人気ランキング上位のメニューが再度提供されました。

  Hello, everyone. I'm Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku office.
  What are your memories of your student life? For me, it was eating a delicious daily set meal in the cafeteria! Having a good meal was the only way I could relax from studying.
 Of course, food is also very important for the students living in the dormitories at the Hakusanroku campus. In the Golden Eagle Cafeteria at the Hakusanroku campus, a survey was held to determine popular meals served in the past. The menu items with the highest rankings were served again.

 I'm sure everyone is wondering what kind of food is on the menu at the Golden Eagle Cafeteria. You can taste a variety of food from all over the world, including western, Japanese, and ethnic dishes on a daily basis, which is one of the attractions of living in the dormitories. In fact, I often use the cafeteria and enjoy exotic food that I would never normally taste. The oyako-don (bowl of rice with chicken and eggs) and green curry are my top choices. As I write this article, I am looking forward to my next visit to the cafeteria.

　こんにちは！白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。1月に入った途端、白山麓キャンパス周辺には雪がどっさり積もりました。こういう状況になると、雪合戦したいですよね。早速体育教員のフィリップ・ケザウ先生が、雪合戦場を作ってくれました。

　雪合戦場にはシェルターと呼ばれる雪の壁が作られ、相手の攻撃から身を守ったり隠れながら攻撃したりすることができるようになっています。学生たちは２チームに分かれ、相手チームの出方を窺うようにしていましたが、じれたのか数分後には突撃する学生が現れ、ついには総攻撃、と白熱した戦いとなりました。その後、学生チーム対教員チームの戦いもあり、双方遠慮なく雪玉をぶつけ合いました。教員チームが学生を一人ずつ攻撃していく瞬間が大いに盛り上がりました。学生たちは雪玉を思いっきり投げることで、日々のストレスを発散できたのではないでしょうか。

　Hello! This is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku office. As soon as January arrived, there was a lot of snow around the Hakusanroku Campus. Because of all this snow, we had a snowball fight. Associate Lecturer Philip Cadzow, got a shovel and created a snowball fight field.

　The snowball fighters were given shelters and walls made of snow, so that they could attack and defend themselves from their opponents. The students were divided into two teams and tried to see what the other team would do, after a short period of preparation the battle began. Later, there was also a battle between the students and the teachers, and they had a lot of fun throwing snowballs at each other. The moment when the teacher team attacked the students one by one was very fun. I think the students got rid of a lot of their daily stress through this.

　Hello everyone! The snow is piling up at the Hakusanroku Campus. Even though it is cold outside, I’ve still been trying to get outside and enjoy the winter season. One thing I really enjoy about being outside is finding animals. So far, I’ve seen black bears, serow, deer, monkeys, wild boar, badgers, rabbits, snakes, owls, and pheasants. Of course, some of these animals are sleeping during the winter months, so they are difficult to find. However, I’m usually able to find evidence of some animals when I get outside in the mountains.
　During the New Year’s holiday, I went on several walks along the forest roads in the hills of Kanazawa and Hakusan. While I wasn’t able to take photos of the animals I saw, I did get to look closely at some of their tracks in the mud and snow. Do you know who made these footprints?
　Closer to Hakusanroku Campus, the Bunao Mountain Observation Building is a great place to learn about the animals native to this part of Japan. I like to stop there when I’m nearby. If you have a chance, I highly recommend it! https://www.pref.ishikawa.lg.jp/hakusan/bunao/

　みなさんこんにちは！白山麓キャンパスには雪が沢山積もっています。外は寒いですが、私は外に出て、冬の季節を楽しむようにしています。外での楽しみの一つは、動物を見つけることです。今までにツキノワグマ、カモシカ、シカ、サル、イノシシ、アナグマ、ウサギ、ヘビ、フクロウ、キジを見てきました。もちろん、冬の時期には、冬眠に入っている動物もいるので、見つけることは困難です。しかし私が山に出かけると、大抵何匹か動物の痕跡を見つけることが出来ます。
　正月休みの間、私は金沢と白山の林道を何度か散歩しました。私が目撃した動物の写真は撮れませんでしたが、泥や雪に動物の足跡があり、じっくり観察することが出来ました。これらの足跡はどの動物だと思いますか？

みなさんこんにちは！白山麓高専事務室の間加田侑里です。12月といえばクリスマスです！そこで白山麓キャンパスで行われたクリスマスに関する出来事をいくつかご紹介します。

Hello everyone! This is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku office. December is the month of Christmas. I would like to write about some of the events related to Christmas here at the Hakusanroku Campus.

12月15日（水）に「ランゲージ&カルチャー」のクラブ員達と教員により、クリスマスツリーが設置されました。クリスマスソングを流し、クリスマスツリーにクラブ員達が製作した手作りの飾りやライトを巻き、クリスマスの思い出を語りながら楽しい雰囲気でクリスマスツリーを組み立てていました。また、余分に作った手作りの飾りは学生と教職員にクリスマスプレゼントとして配られました。

On Wednesday, December 15th, the Language and Culture club members and teachers set up a Christmas tree. They played Christmas songs, wrapped the tree with lights, and hung Christmas decorations. As they did this, they talked about their Christmas memories. Some of the decorations were handmade by club members. Later, the extra handmade hung Christmas decorations were given to the students and staff members as Christmas gifts.

Chrisrmas Party

クリスマスには学生たちが帰省するため、少し早めの12月18日（土）にラーニングメンターのアン先生、アピラク先生、ジョムキット先生が企画したイベント「クリスマスパーティ」が行われました。この日を待ち望んでいた学生たちは多いはずです。可愛いと評判のカップケーキやホットチョコレートが準備され、学生や教員達は共にカラオケやゲームを楽しみました。冬休みが到来する前に楽しい思い出が出来たのではないでしょうか。

Since students go home for Christmas, the Christmas Party was held on Sunday, December 18th. It was organized by the Learning Mentors, Ann sensei, Apirak sensei, and Jomkit sensei. Many of the students had been looking forward to the party. The students and teachers enjoyed karaoke and games together as well as eating some lovely cupcakes and drinking hot chocolate. I am sure they made some fun memories before winter break.

Christmas Cake Party

12月20日（月）の授業終了後、リビングコモンズにてスイーツ作りが得意なエドワード先生が手作りクリスマスケーキやジンジャーブレッドクッキーをみなさんに振舞いました！見た目が可愛い雪だるまの形をしたクリスマスケーキの味はスパイスやミントが効いていて、日本のケーキとは違った甘くて深みのある味がしました。ジンジャーブレッドクッキーにはアイシングし、アレンジしながら楽しみました。マシュマロが沢山入ったホットチョコレートには３種類のスパイスが準備されており、カスタマイズをしながら色んな味を楽しむことが出来ました。どれも全部美味しかったです！エドワード先生からクリスマスケーキパーティと国際高専の生活についてのメッセージ動画です。どうぞご覧ください。

After class on Monday, December 20th, Edward sensei, who is good at baking, served a homemade Christmas cake and gingerbread cookies to everyone in the Living Commons! The Christmas cake, shaped like a cute snowman, tasted different from Japanese cakes because of the spices and mint. The gingerbread cookies were decorated with white icing and arranged in a fun way. The hot chocolate had lots of marshmallows. There were also three kinds of spices that could be added to each cup of hot chocolate, in order to customize it and enjoy different flavors. Special Christmas Menu at the Golden Eagle Cafeteria

白山麓キャンパスのカフェテリア「Golden Eagle Cafeteria」では、普段から世界中の健康的な料理を味わうことができます。12月23日（木）にクリスマススペシャルメニューとしてローストチキンとクリスマスチョコレートブラウニーが提供されました。ハロウィンやクリスマスなど、イベントごとに提供されるスペシャルメニューは寮生活での楽しみの1つですね。

In the Golden Eagle Cafeteria at the Hakusanroku campus, you can usually eat healthy food from around the world. On Thursday, December 23rd, the cafeteria served a special Christmas menu of Roasted Chicken and Christmas Chocolate Brownies. For occasions like Halloween and Christmas, there are special menus. It is one of the things that students enjoy about their dormitory life.

 

 

Holiday Gift Exchange 2021

今年はラーニングメンターのアン先生が企画した「Holiday Gift Exchange 2021」という学生同士、教職員同士がシークレットにクリスマスプレゼント交換をするイベントが行われました。欧米では「シークレットサンタ」と呼ばれている、クリスマスに行われる伝統的なゲームだそうです。
以下はシークレットサンタのルールです。
1) まずはアンケートに記入します。氏名、好きな食べ物、好きな色、好きなスポーツなどを回答します。
2) 記入したアンケートをギフトボックスに入れます。
3) アンケートは参加者にランダムで配られます。もちろん自分のアンケートが自分の手元に届かないように配慮する必要があります。
4) 自分の手元に届いた相手の情報を元に予算内（学生：1000円～2000円、教職員：2000円～3000円）でプレゼントを購入します。
5) ラッピングされたプレゼントをクリスマスツリーの下に置きます。

プレゼントを誰かに贈り、誰から何を贈られるかはプレゼントを開封するまで予測できないという楽しみがあります。想像するだけでドキドキしますね。

This year, Learning Mentor Anne sensei, organized an event called Holiday Gift Exchange 2021, where students, teachers, and staff members participated in a Secret Santa gift exchange. In Europe and the United States, it is a common Christmas tradition.
Here are the rules for Secret Santa.
1) Complete a questionnaire about yourself including your name, your favorite food, favorite color, favorite sport, etc.,
2) Put the completed questionnaire forms in the gift box.
3) Distribute the questionnaire forms randomly, but make sure no one receives their own questionnaire.
4) Buy a present for your Secret Santa partner, but stay within the budget. (Students: 1,000 yen to 2,000 yen, Teachers and staff members: 2,000 yen to 3,000 yen)
5) Wrap the present and put it under the Christmas tree.

The fun part is that you can't predict who will give you a gift and what they will give you until you open the gift. It's exciting just to imagine who bought you a present and what it will be!

 

さて、ランダムに配られたアンケートが手元に届いた学生たちの反応は面白いものでした。相手に何を贈れば喜んでもらえるか真剣に悩んでいる学生や、すぐにアイデアを思いつき、ネットで検索している学生など、さまざまな反応が見られました。アンケートから相手が喜びそうな贈り物を連想して、何か贈り物を探すことも楽しみの1つだなと改めて思いました。

It was interesting to see the reaction of the students when they received the randomly distributed questionnaire forms. Some students were seriously wondering what they should get for their Secret Santa partner, while others immediately came up with an idea and searched the Internet for it. I was reminded once again that one of the fun parts of the event is using the information from the questionnaire form to find a gift that the recipient would enjoy.

 

クリスマスプレゼントは12月23日（木）にアン・サンタクロースさんから学生と教職員の元に贈られました。学生たちがプレゼントを開封している瞬間が大いに盛り上がり、喜んでいる姿にクリスマスらしい暖かい雰囲気が出ていました。楽しそうにクリスマスを祝っている学生たちの姿に絆を感じました。2年生は白山麓キャンパスでの寮生活が残り数か月となりました。寮生活での一瞬一瞬を大切に過ごし、思い出を沢山作ってほしいと思います。

Christmas gifts were presented to the students, teachers, and staff members by Anne Santa Claus on Thursday, December 23rd. There was a warm Christmas atmosphere as the students opened their gifts and were delighted to find out what they had received from their Secret Santa partner. and I felt a bond among the students as they celebrated. The second-year students have only a few months left to live in the dormitory at the Hakusanroku Campus. I hope they will cherish every moment of their dormitory life and make many good memories.
