こんにちは、白山麓事務室の間加田 侑里です。1月下旬、日本列島が寒波に見舞われ、白山麓キャンパス周辺もその影響を受けました。最低気温が-7度を観測するとともに約1メートルの積雪がありました。そんな中、1、2年生 の保健・体育の授業で行われた「かまくら作り」や「雪合戦」、「雪だるま制作」について今回は紹介します。

 Hello, this is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku office. In late January, the Japanese archipelago, including the area around the Hakusanroku campus, was hit by a cold wave. A low temperature of -7℃ was recorded and about a meter of snow fell. In this weather, 1st and 2nd year Health and Physical Education classes were held outside and they did things like making an igloo, having a snowball fight and building a snowman.

　1月26日（木）、2年生の保健・体育の授業では、フィリップ・ケザウ先生レクチャーのもと、ブロック型のかまくら作りが行われました。学生たちは長方形のプラスチックの容器に雪を押し込んで固め、雪ブロックを作り円形に並べました。そして、その上に雪ブロックを4段、5段と次々積み重ねていき、高さ約1メートルのかまくらを作り上げました。学生たちが黙々と熱心にかまくらを作る姿が印象的でした。

 On Thursday, January 26th, the 2nd year Health and Physical Education class made a block-shaped igloo, under the guidance of their Physical Education teacher, Philip Cadzow sensei. Students pressed snow into rectangular plastic containers to shape them into snow blocks and arranged the blocks in a circular shape. The snow blocks were then stacked one on top of the other, one after the other, to create a one-meter high igloo. It was impressive to see the students focused on building the igloo.

　1月30日（月）、1年生の保健・体育の授業では、雪合戦と雪だるま作りが行われました。雪合戦では、2チームに分かれ、腰まで埋もれてしまうほど積もった雪をかき分け、雪合戦のコース作りや自分たちの陣地にシェルターと呼ばれる雪壁を作りました。学生たちはシェルターに身を潜めながら相手チームの出方を窺い、数分後には両チームとも総攻撃といった白熱した戦いとなりました。その後、雪だるま作りが行われ、協力しながら4段の雪だるまを作り上げました。
　積もった雪に触れることが初めてという何名かの学生たちにとって、白山麓ならではの自然を存分に楽しむことができたのではないでしょうか。

 On Monday, January, 30th, the 1st year Health and Physical Education classes had a snowball fight and built a snowman. For the snowball fight, the students split into 2 teams. Then they shoveled through waist-deep piles of snow, made paths for the snowball fight and built a snow wall for a shelter on their own territory. Students hid in their shelters for a few minutes to see what the other team would do, and then both teams attacked. This was followed by the building of a snowman, where the students worked together to build a 4-level snowman.
 The students, some of whom had never touched snow before, were able to enjoy the unique nature of HAKUSANROKU (Foothills of Mt. Hakusan).

　こんにちは。白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。今回はビジュアルアーツⅠ（1年生）の授業について紹介します。
　この授業は、美術、工芸、デザインなどの創作活動を通じて、発想力・表現力を養うことを目的として実施されています。日常の風景について視野を変えて観察してみると、新たな発見があり発想への手がかりに繋がります。良いアイデアを生み出すには、偶然の思いつきだけに頼るのではなく、日常から多くの事を感じ取ることが重要です。そして時には、その感じ取った事柄について、解決することも必要です。

 Hello, this is Yuri Makada from Hakusanroku office. This time, I would like to write about the Visual Arts I (1st grade) class.
 The purpose of this class is to cultivate the ability to think and express one’s thoughts through creative activities in art, crafts, and design. Observing everyday scenery from a different perspective can lead to new discoveries and ideas. In order to generate good ideas, it is important to observe things in daily life rather than relying only on random ideas. Sometimes it is also important to solve the problems that one encounters in life.

　最初の授業では、日常を観察し、情報を多く得るための体験をしました。同じ風景を見ても人それぞれ感じ方が異なり、回答はひとつではないことを知るきっかけとなります。このフェーズを通じて視野を広く持つことの重要性や多様な価値について学び、視覚的表現をより自由に行います。

 In the first class, students experienced observing everyday life to gain a lot of information. This is an opportunity to learn that each person feels differently even when looking at the same scenery and that there is more than one answer. Through out this phase, students learned about the importance of having a broad perspective and diverse values, and they express themselves more freely.

　次のフェーズでは、紙を素材として構造物を制作します。素材の特長を知った上でシンプルな構造表現をすることを目指しデザインとは何かを知ることになります。また、別の課題では機能的で精度を求めた造形を制作し、工作する上での技術と心得を学びます。

 In the next phase, students created structures using paper. Students learned what design is all about, aiming to create simple structural expressions based on an understanding of the characteristics of the material. In another assignment, students create functional and precise shapes, and develop the techniques and knowledge needed for this assignment.

　これらのフェーズを経た後、学生たちはデザイン活動を行いました。学生たちは2人1組になり、日常生活の中で不便と感じていることを会話から探り出し、改善するためのプロトタイプを制作しました。学生たちは相手に一次モデルを検証してもらい「ここの部分は必要か？」「ここをもう少し改善してほしい」などユーザーの要望や改善点を更に見出し、新たな発見を二次モデルに反映させました。一次モデルでは手を使って考え、そこで得た新たな気づきを基に、思考の深化を図ることになります。ユーザーが本当に必要とするもの（価値あるデザイン）であるかを検証し、二次モデルでは、改善を行うという流れです。

　二次モデルを制作した後、学生たちはユーザーが求めているものやモデルの改善点などを発表しました。発表者に対する学生たちの活発な質問や意見からは、他者のアイデアに対してもいろんな視点から物を捉えることができていることが伺え、物事の構造を理解しながら様々なアイデアを創出しようとしていました。このビジュアルアーツでの学びは今後の活動に活かされることでしょう。

 After these phases, students engaged in design activities. Students worked in pairs to find out through conversation what they perceived as inconveniences in their daily lives and created prototypes to improve their daily lives. The students asked their partner to check the primary model, and received user opinions such as “Is this part of the model necessary?”, “I would like to see a little more improvement here", etc., then reflected their new findings in the second model. In the 1^st iteration, students think with their hands, and based on the new insights they gain from this process, they deepen their thinking. This process is done to verify whether the design is valuable and what the user really needs, and improvements are made in the 2^nd iteration.

 After the students created their 2^nd iteration, they presented what the users wanted and how the model could be improved. Students actively asked questions and shared their opinions with the presenters. This showed that they were able to see the ideas of others from various perspectives, and they tried to create various ideas with an understanding of the structure of things. The learning in this Visual Arts program will be put to good use in their future activities.

　こんにちは、白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。今回はクリスマスに開催された様々なイベントについて紹介します。
 Hello, this is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku office. This time, I would like to write about various Christmas events that were held.

　12月14日（水）、教員たちと学生たちにより、可愛らしい飾りやライトを巻きつけた、華やかで豪華なクリスマスツリーがリビングコモンズに設置され、館内はクリスマスらしい心温まる空間となりました。
 On Wednesday, December 14th, a gorgeous Christmas tree with lovely decorations and lights was set up in the Living Commons by faculty members and students, creating a heartwarming Christmas atmosphere on campus.

 

ジンジャーブレッドハウス作り

　12月17日（土）、白山麓キャンパスのカフェテリア「Golden Eagle Cafeteria」では、クリスマスイベントとしてジンジャーブレッドハウス作りが行われました。ジンジャーブレッドとは、生姜やシナモンなどのスパイスや蜂蜜などが入ったお菓子のことです。学生たちはこのお菓子を家の形にアイシングし、模様を描き、マーブルチョコを使ってカラフルで可愛らしいお家に仕上げました。長時間に渡り制作に没頭する学生や、出来上がったジンジャーブレッドハウスをすぐに食べて味わう学生など、それぞれ思い思いの時間を楽しんでいました。

Gingerbread House Making

 On Saturday, December 17th, the school cafeteria (the Golden Eagle Cafeteria) hosted a Christmas event called gingerbread house making. Gingerbread is a baked sweet made with ginger, cinnamon and honey. The students used icing to build a ginger bread house and drew patterns on it, and then decorated it with colorful chocolate candies to create a lovely house. Some students spent a long time working on their creations and some students finished building their gingerbread house quickly so that they could eat them as soon as possible.

クリスマスパーティー

　今年度は、クリスマスの25日には学生たちが帰省で不在となることから、少し早めの12月21日（水）にクリスマスパーティーを開催しました。ラーニングメンターのアン・イソベル・タン先生、アピラク・サンゲンチャイ先生、ジョムキット・ジュジャロエン先生が用意したカップケーキやクッキー、アイスクリームなどが学生たちに振舞われました。学生たちと教員たちでカラオケやテレビゲーム大会も開催され、大いに盛り上がりました。
　その後、「シークレット・サンタ」が行われました。これは事前に学生たちが好きな食べ物や色、趣味などをアンケート用紙に書き、学生間でランダムに配り、自分の手元に届いたアンケートの回答をもとに相手へプレゼントを選びます。「シークレット・サンタ」はその名の通り、サンタさんが誰なのか正体を伏せて行うクリスマスプレゼント交換のことです。
　クリスマスプレゼントを受け取り開封する際、学生たちの目はキラキラと輝いていて、クリスマスらしい暖かい雰囲気になっていました。学生たちが受け取ったプレゼントはスポーツ用品や雪遊び道具、食品やオリジナルTシャツなど、贈る相手のことを思って選んだ心温まる品物ばかりでした。学生たちは、自分にプレゼントをくれたサンタが誰なのか考えるのも楽しかったのではないでしょうか。

Christmas Party

 This year, the Christmas party was held on Wednesday, December 21st. This was a little early because the students would be at home on Christmas Day (December 25th). Learning Mentors, Anne Isobel Tan sensei, Apirak Sang-ngenchai sensei, and Jomkit Jujaroen sensei prepared cupcakes, cookies, and ice cream for the students. Karaoke and video game contests were also held between the students and faculty members, which was a lot of fun.
 After that, "Secret Santa" was held. Students had written down their favorite foods, colors, hobbies, etc. on questionnaires and these were distributed randomly among the students. As the name suggests, "Secret Santa" is a Christmas gift exchange in which the identity of the gift giver is kept secret.
 When the students received and opened their Christmas gifts, their eyes sparkled and the atmosphere was warm and festive. The gifts received by the students included sports equipment, snow toys, food, original T-shirts, all thoughtful items chosen with the recipients in mind. The students enjoyed thinking about guessing who their Secret Santa was.

クリスマススペシャルディナー

　12月22日（木）、カフェテリア「Golden Eagle Cafeteria」では、クリスマススペシャルディナーが提供されました。イチゴのショートケーキや、手のひらサイズの大きなローストチキンなど、クリスマスらしい食事が用意され、ローストチキンはジューシーで食べ応えがあり、学生たちには「美味しい！！」と評判でした！

Christmas Special Dinner

 On Thursday, December 22nd, the Golden Eagle Cafeteria served a special Christmas dinner. This included strawberry shortcake and a large serving of roast chicken that was bigger than the palm of your hand. The roast chicken was juicy and satisfying, and the students said it was delicious!!!

　こんにちは、白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。
　11月12日（土）、金沢キャンパスの体育館で、1、2年生（白山麓キャンパス）と4、5年生（金沢キャンパス）の合同スポーツフェスティバルが開催されました。

　両キャンパスの学生が一同に会する機会であったことから、11月27日（日）に開催される高専ロボコンの全国大会に出場する国際高専Aチームの壮行会が行われた後、バスケットボール、バドミントン、バレーボールの３競技の順で実施されました。学生たちは4学年混合の4チームに分かれ、ローテーションで３競技全てに出場する形式をとり、学生同士が競い合い、その中で優勝したチームが教員チームと対戦しました。どの競技も見応えのある試合と大きな歓声に包まれ、会場は大変盛り上がりました！競技終了後、各4チームに参加賞としてお菓子の詰め合わせが贈られました。

 　学生たちは日頃の学業から一旦離れ、仲間と力を合わせる機会となったと同時に、学年混合のチーム活動を通し両キャンパスの学生たちの親睦が深まる機会となりました。

 On Saturday, November 12th, a sports festival was held at the Kanazawa Campus gymnasium. 1<sup>st and 2nd students from Hakusanroku campus and 4th and 5th students from Kanazawa campus joined together to take part in the event.

 Since it was an opportunity for students from both campuses to get together, a send-off ceremony was held for the ICT A team which participated in the national ROBOCON competition held on Sunday, November 27th. This ceremony was followed by three sports: basketball, badminton, and volleyball, in that order. The students were divided into 4 teams with team members drawn from all 4 grades. Then, the teams selected students to play each of the three sports to play against the other 3 teams.  The winning team for each sport then played against a team of faculty members. All of the competitions were very exciting, with spectacular games and loud cheers from the audience! After the competition, each of the four teams received an assortment of sweets as a participation prize.</sup>

 The event provided an opportunity for students to take a break from their daily studies and join forces with their friends. At the same time, students had a chance to deepened friendships between the two campuses through mixed-grade team activities.

　こんにちは！国際高専1年の矢追 拓穂です。さて、今回は10月23日（日）に三重県のAGF鈴鹿体育館で行われたアイデア対決･全国高等専門学校ロボットコンテスト 2022 東海北陸地区大会の紹介をしていきます。
　今年は全10高専が集まり、それぞれの学校でAチームとBチームの２チームが参加しました。国際高専からは4年生3名のAチームと２年生3名、1年生5名のBチームが出場しました。Bチームは特別賞（牧野フライス賞）を受賞し、Aチームは技術賞と全国大会への出場権を獲得する大変嬉しい結果となりました。そして我々ロボコンメンバー以外の1年生も応援団として現地で応援しました。今回のテーマは「ミラクル★フライ」～空へ舞い上がれ！～ということで、高さ・面積の異なるスポットや滑走路、筒にロボットが飛ばした紙飛行機を乗せて得点を競う対戦型競技ルールになっています。そのため観客席に紙飛行機が飛んでくるという一面もありました。僕は選手ではないので実際にロボットを操縦はしていませんが、どの学校のロボットもそれぞれ全く違う個性があり感動しました。11月27日（日）には、全国大会が国技館で開催されるのでＡチームの4年生にはぜひ頑張ってもらいたいです。

矢追 拓穂

Hello! This is Takuho Yaoi, a 1st-year student at ICT. This time, I would like to introduce the Tokai-Hokuriku Regional ROBOCON 2022, which was held on October 23rd at the AGF Suzuka Gymnasium in Mie Prefecture.

 This year, 10 schools attended and were divided into A and B teams, and from ICT, Team A consisted of three 4th-year students and Team B consisted of three 2nd-year students and five 1st-year students. Team B won a special award, and Team A won a technical award and the right to participate in the national competition. This time, 1st-year students who are not members of our robotics team also participated in the competition as a cheering group. The theme of this year's competition was “Miracle★Fly,”  in which robots launched paper airplanes to spots, runways, and tubes of different heights and areas to score points. Because of this, there was even one time when paper airplanes flew into the spectators’ seats. I am not a Robot contest member, so I did not actually control a robot, but I was impressed by the individuality of the robots from each school.
