Hello, it's Jonathan, the camera man. Finally! We got enough snow to go skiing! This winter has been strange with record-breaking warm weather. However, the skies smiled upon us for this weekend's ski excursion. After morning classes on Saturday February 8, members of the Nature & Adventure club geared up and we drove to Ichirino Ski Resort, which is about a ten minutes from the Hakusanroku campus. Most of the students were skiing for the first time or had not skied in a while. Owari coach began with some lesson and the members were enjoying zooming down the mountainside in no time. We spent the afternoon enjoying skiing and the students voiced their hopes to go again this season. I'm glad that everyone liked skiing more than they expected. After all, we are living in the Mt. Hakusan foodhills.

こんにちは！カメラマンのジョナサンです。ようやくスキーが滑れるほど雪が降ってくれました！今年は記録的な暖冬でしたが、先週はようやく雪に恵まれて予定通りスキーに行けました。2月8日（土）の午前中の授業のあと、ネイチャー＆アドベンチャークラブのメンバーがスキーウェアに着替えて玄関前に集合しました。行き先は白山麓キャンパスから車で10分ほどのところにある一里野スキー場です。ほとんどの学生がスキー初心者だったので、尾張コーチのレッスンからスタートしました。上達も早く、あっという間に気持ち良く斜面を滑る学生たちの姿がありました。スキーを楽しんだ学生から「めっちゃ楽しい」「来週も行きたい」という声が上がったので嬉しくなりました。せっかく白山の麓のキャンパスに住んでいるんですもの、ウィンタースポーツも楽しんで欲しいです。来週も行けることを祈っています。

皆さん、こんにちは。S科2年の鷺島です。今回は私が参加した、プロコンとロボコンに並ぶ高専三大コンテストの一つ、デザインコンペティション（以下デザコン）について書いていきます。
デザコンは幾つかの区分に分かれていますが、私たち白山麓キャンパスの学生が参加できるのは、プレデザコン（高専1から３年生対象）となります。プレデザコンと言っても、分野が空間デザインフィールド（建築の透視図）、創造デザインフィールド（ロゴデザイン）、A Mデザインフィールド（３Dプリント）の３つに分かれており、それぞれの学生の得意分野で取り組むことができます。私自身は創造デザインフィールドを選択して今年の東京大会に参加しました。
今回のテーマは「名取市において、自然がもたらした試練を乗り越える力となった人と人とつながりを、次代へと継承してゆくこと」で、これを題材にしたロゴを作成しました。ここからは、簡単に何を経て完成へと至ったのか書いていきたいと思います。まず最初にしたのはテーマの咀嚼です。とくに今回のテーマは複雑で、最終的には「震災を乗り越えた人のつながりを示す」という一文に縮めました。次がアイデア出し、続いてブラッシュアップに入ります。ここが一番時間がかかる工程で、それぞれ１週間以上かかります。特にブラッシュアップに関しては、１つのロゴの些細な表現の差異を比べながら作業していくので、かなり疲れました。最後に提出資料にまとめれば完成です。どんどんアイデアが形になっていき、最終的に想像以上の作品が完成するのはとても壮観です。この活動を通して、アイデア創出の楽しさを再確認することができました。結果としては特別賞（審査委員会から頂ける賞）を獲得することができて嬉しく思います。
この分野は、アイデア勝負の部分も多く、サポートして頂ける先生たちも付いているので、初心者でも気軽に始められます。気になる人は是非最初の一歩を国際高専で踏み出してみてください。
S科２年 鷺島悠人
Hello everyone. My name is Sagishima and I am a second-year student of the department of science and technology. Today I would like to write about the Kosen Design Competition (DezaCon), which I participated in and is counted as one of the three big Kosen Contests along with the ProCon and RoboCon.
The DezaCon is divided into several divisions. The division that students from the Hakusanroku campus can participate in is the Pre-DezaCon (first- to third-year students). This Pre-DezaCon is further divided into three fields: the Space Design Field (architectural perspective drawing), Creative Design Field (logo design), and AM Design Field. (3D printing) Students can choose which fields they wish to compete in. I selected the Creative Design Field and entered this year's Tokyo tournament.
This year's theme was to create a logo based on the concept "Passing down the bond between people of Natori city who overcame the trial of nature." I would like to briefly describe how I reached my final product. First, I broke down the theme. This year's theme was complex, so I simplified it to the sentence "Display the bond between people who overcame the earthquake." Next, I brainstormed and began the brushing up process. These took the longest amount of time; about one week for each stage. The brush up stage was especially tiring because it was an intricate process of comparing the effects of tiny differences. Finally, I submitted the necessary documents. It was an amazing experience to see my ideas take shape and exceed my expectations. I was able to rediscover the joy of ideation through this experience. Also, my efforts were happily paid off as I received the Special Award. (award from the judging committee)
I recommend this field to newcomers because good ideas can carry you far and there are supporting teachers at ICT. If you are interested, why not test your design skills here at ICT?

S科1年ロボコンチームの畠中 義基です。
2019年11月23日（土）に愛知県で行われた、第7回全国高校生コマ大戦 名古屋モーターショー場所に出場してきました。出場メンバーは、僕と、同じく国際理工学科1年の佐藤俊太朗と杉晃太朗の3人で1チームとして参加してきました。僕たちがコマの大会に出場することになったのは、9月の下旬に先生に勧められたことからでした。出場が決まってから約2か月間放課後にコマの製作と研究を何度も繰り返し約８０個のコマを製作しました。最初のほうは、回転時間があまり伸びず嫌になることもありましたが、何とかやり遂げることができました。僕が最後までやり遂げることができたのは、同じデザイン＆ファブリケーションクラブのプロコンチームが全国高等専門学校プログラミングコンテストで本選に出場するなど、結果を残している中で、ロボコンチームは、何も結果を残してないということに何か結果を出さないといけないと思っていたからです。大会の結果は予選敗退（７勝3敗）でした。負けた3試合は、すべて自分の失投（コマの投げミス）によるものだったのですごく悔しいです。もっと練習をしておけばよかったとすごく後悔しています。この負けを次のコマ大戦やほかの活動に活かしていきたいと思います。

My name is Yoshiki Hatanaka. I'm a first year student of the Department of Science and Technology.
On November 23 (Sat), I participated in the 7th National High School Spintop Battle Tournament (Koma-taisen) at Nagoya Motor Show. Fellow first year students and teammates Shuntaro Sato and Koutaro Sugi also participated in this tournament. We learned about this tournament from our couch in the end of September. For two months after school, we manufactured and analyzed over 80 spintops. In the beginning, we could not improve our spining time and I felt like giving up at times. However, we stayed strong and pushed through to the end. The reason we were able to continue is because the ProCon team from the same Design and Fabrication Club participated in the National Kosen Programming Contest and we as a team felt pressure to achieve a result of our own. We were eliminated in the preliminary round with a record of seven wins and three losses. The three games we lost were due to a miss throw from myself, which was very frustrating. I regret that I didn't spend more time practicing spinning the tops. We plan to use this experience in future spintop tournaments and other activities.

The leaves were beautiful shades of red, yellow and green as we made our way up the path. This event was a collaboration with the Oguchi Community Center and some members of the local community joined us in the climb. Shinichi Hiramatsu is a specialist of this area and gave lectures about trees and animals. It took about an hour to reach the top, where we rested and ate lunch. Hiramatsu-san pointed out that we could see Mt. Hakusan's peak from Sanpoiwatake. Altogether, it was a refreshing and fun way to spend a beautiful autumn day.

こんにちは。国語科のＫＴＢです。秋も深まって参りました。
下の写真をご覧ください。手前に花を咲かせているのは秋の七草の一つ、藤袴（フジバカマ）です。乾燥すると桜餅のような甘い香りを放ち、万葉の時代から親しまれてきた花ですが、今では準絶滅危惧種に指定される貴重な花です。写真の右上にもご注目ください。藤袴の蜜を求めて飛来するアサギマダラです。藤袴の蜜を選んで吸うのには理由があります。蜜に含まれるピロリジジンアルカロイド（毒性を持つ）を摂取することで鳥に捕食されないようにするため、また、ピロリジジンアルカロイドから雄蝶がフェロモンを作るためです。
この写真は、9月24日に白山麓キャンパス向かいの畑で撮影したものですが、今はもうアサギマダラたちはここにはいません。彼らは旅する蝶なのです。5月の終わりに南方から飛来した蝶たちが産卵して短い生涯を終えます。そして、ここで生まれ育って蜜をたっぷり吸った蝶たちが、10月の初めに産卵のために南へ向かって飛び立ちます。『白山のアサギマダラ』（石川県白山自然保護センター、2016年）によりますと、このあたりでマーキングした蝶が、京都や山口、高知、鹿児島、沖縄などで再捕獲されています。最も遠かったのは、1857ｋｍ離れた日本の最西端、沖縄の与那国島だそうです。
昨年には、ネイチャー＆アドベンチャー部の尾張由輝也コーチのお父様の尾張勝也氏がこちらでマーキングした蝶を、1,000ｋｍ彼方の喜界島において、ご夫婦で再捕獲なさっています。素敵な話ですね。
ネイチャー＆アドベンチャー部でもアサギマダラのマーキングは企画していたのですが、残念ながら台風15号のために中止となってしまいました。来年は部員たちがマーキングした蝶たちを、南の島で誰かに再捕獲していただけると嬉しいですね。

Hello, KTB from the Japanese department here. Autumn is upon us at Hakusanroku.
Check out the pictures above. The flower in the foreground is called Fujibaka (藤袴), one of the "Aki no Nanakusa" (seven plants of autumn). When dried, it has a sweet scent like cherry blossom mochi and is a historically popular flower since the age of Manyo. Currently, it is one of the nearly endangered species list. Notice the butterfly in the photo. It's an "Asagimadara" sucking nectar from the Fujibaka flower. The Asagimadara butterfly chooses to suck Fujibaka nectar for a reason. The pyrrolizidine alkaloid (poisonous) within the nectar prevents birds from eating it. Also, male butterflies use it to create pheromone.
These pictures were taken on September 24 at the field across from the campus. However, there are no more Asagimadara in this area now. They are a traveling specie. They fly up from the south in the end of May to lay their eggs and live out their short lives. Then the Asagimadara born here will feed on the nectar and fly off to lay their eggs in the south. According to "Asagimadara in Mt. Hakusan" (Ishikawa Prefecture Mt. Hakusan Nature Preservation Center, 2016), butterflies marked here have been seen in Kyoto, Yamaguchi, Kochi, Kagoshima, and Okinawa. The farthest recorded one was found in Yonaguni-jima, the west farthest island of Japan, 1857 kilometers away.
Last year, Katsuya Owari, the father of Yukiya Owari, our Nature & Adventure club coach, marked a butterfly here and recaptured the same butterfly in Kikai-jima island with his wife, more than 1000 kilometers away; an astounding story.
We planned an Asagimadara marking event in the Nature & Adventure club but it was sadly canceled due to Typhoon No.15. I hope next year someone on a southern island will find butterflies we set loose here.

Last year, Katsuya Owari, the father of Yukiya Owari, our Nature & Adventure club coach, marked a butterfly here and recaptured the same butterfly in Kikai-jima island with his wife, more than 1000 kilometers away; an astounding story.
We planned an Asagimadara marking event in the Nature & Adventure club but it was sadly canceled due to Typhoon No.15. I hope next year someone on a southern island will find butterflies we set loose here.
