May 11, 2022 デザイン＆ファブリケーションクラブ「新入生クラブ員歓迎会 校内ロボコン」

　こんにちは！初めまして！国際高専２年の泉屋 匠吾です。今年度のデザイン＆ファブリケーションクラブの部長を務めています。このクラブではロボットや動画など、様々な要素を持ち合わせたデザインを作っていき、外部へと発信していく活動をしています。
　さて、我々デザイン＆ファブリケーションクラブは、新しく入ってきた新入生たちによる校内ロボコンを4月22日に実施しました！さらに今回は２年生のセルゲレン・サンサル君にも参加してもらいました。みなさん個性ある素晴らしいロボットを作って楽しい大会になりました！
　今年のロボコンは「サッカー」をテーマにしました。ルールはPK形式で５本勝負！LEGO EV3を使って、1年生チームはボールをキックするロボットを作ってもらい、２年生が作ったゴールキーパーロボットの守りを破ります。そしてより多くの点を取ったチームが優勝となります。２人１組の合計５チームによる接戦が繰り広げられ、１年生の太田 晴喜くんと夏木 亮凪くんによるチーム「Mr. Hakusan」が優勝しました！

　現在、国際高専ではNHK高専ロボコンに出場するプロジェクトが進んでいます。出場する選手たちの良い経験になったら幸いだと考えています。これからも各部員たちの活躍を見守っていただけると嬉しいです。これからもよろしくお願いします！

 Hello! Nice to meet you, I am Shogo Izumiya, a 2nd-year student at ICT. I am the student leader of the Design & Fabrication Club for this school year. In this club, we are working to create designs that use various elements such as robots and videos, and share them to the outside world.
 On April 22nd, the Design & Fabrication Club, held an on-campus robotics competition for the new students! A 2^nd-year student, Sergelen Sansar, also participated. Everyone created unique and wonderful robots, and the competition was a lot of fun!
 The theme of this year's robotics competition was soccer. The rules were each team had 5 chances to make a PK and the team with the highest score be the winners. Using LEGO EV3, the 1st-year student team was asked to build a robot that kicks a ball and scores a goal against the goalkeeper robot built by 2^nd-year students. The winning team was called Mr. Hakusan and consisted of 1^st-year students Haruki Ohta and Ryona Natsuki!

 Currently, ICT is getting ready to participate in the NHK ROBOCON COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY. We hope that this will be a good experience for the contestants. We hope that you will continue to follow the activities of our team members. Thank you for your continued support!

May 9, 2022 歓迎会「ピニャータ」

　こんにちは、白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。新年度の慌ただしさも落ち着き、気候も暖かくなってきました。
　4月20日（水）の放課後、ラーニングメンターたちが計画した２年生のセルゲレン・サンサルさん（モンゴルからの留学生）と1年生の歓迎会が開催されました。サンサルさんは1年間入国できず、モンゴルでオンライン授業を受け、今年の3月下旬にようやく日本に入国することができました。

　さて、この日はメキシコで有名な「ピニャータ」で歓迎会が行われました。ピニャータとは、目隠しをした状態で、吊るされている装飾されたくす玉を棒で叩き割り、くす玉の中に入っているお菓子をいち早く広い集めるゲームです。
　今回は８名の学生たちがくす玉を叩き割ることに挑戦しました。目隠しした学生は周囲の声を参考にしながら前後左右に進み、くす玉を叩き割ろうと試みましたが、くす玉が揺れるため叩くタイミングが非常に難しかったようです。くす玉が割れた瞬間、拍手と歓声が沸き、その場が非常に盛り上がりました。そして学生たちは飛び散ったお菓子を一目散に拾い集め、分け合っているのが印象的でした。
　ピニャータを通して、声を掛け合う学生たちの団結力を感じることが出来ました。またメキシコの祝祭文化に触れ、異文化体験を楽しめたのではないでしょうか。今後も様々な異文化に触れ、新しい学びや国際感覚をより多く身に着けられることを期待します。

 Hello, this is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku office. The hectic new school year has settled down and the weather is getting warmer. 
 On Wednesday, April 20th, after school, the Learning Mentors organized a welcome party for 2nd-year student Sergelen Sansar (from Mongolia) and 1st-year students. Sansar had been unable to enter Japan until recently and he had been taking online classes from Mongolia. In late March of this year, he was finally able to enter Japan after one year.

 At the welcome party students celebrated by breaking open a piñata. Traditionally, piñatas come from Mexico, and they are decorated figures that contain sweets. They are suspended from above and then broken open with a stick swung by a blindfolded person. After a piñata is broken open, the sweets spill out, and people collect them as quickly as possible.  
 This time, 8 students took on the challenge of smashing the piñata. The blindfolded students tried to smash it by moving back and forth, left and right, listening to advice from their classmates. It was very difficult to find the right moment to smash the piñata because it was swinging back and forth. The moment the piñata was broken, there was a burst of applause and cheers, and the scene became very exciting. It was impressive to see the students picking up all the scattered sweets and sharing them.
 Through the welcome party, I was able to feel the unity of the students who tried to help to each other break the piñata. I believe that the students were able to learn about a traditional Mexican game and enjoy a cross-cultural experience. And I hope that the students will continue to experience various different cultures and learn new things and gain more international perspectives in the future.

April 28, 2022 ネイチャー＆アドベンチャークラブ　新入クラブ員歓迎会　高倉山ハイキング

 Hello! My name is Philip Cadzow.
 With modern life it’s easy and expected to be sitting indoors somewhere, be it your job, school, or transport somewhere. It’s hard to get up on a Saturday morning to go for a 13km walk up a hill, with weather expected to rain, and swampy ground that covers your shoes with mud. Yet without something challenging, different, or risky to bring some fun into life, it’s easy to focus too much on the little things and get caught up in your own thinking. Getting out and into nature is a beautiful way to get some exercise, a breath of fresh air, and to also clear your head. We started off the day with some gear checks as it looked like it might rain later, and a group challenge called the human knot where they had to untangle themselves. We then set out on the hike heading down the road to the post office, across the cycle bridge, and then into the trees.

 The view from along the forest road is quite spectacular to start off with, as it looks down a steep cliff into the blue river below. And then the hill started going up... a good way up we took a break. What I love most about the outdoors, is what the effect of being in a natural environment has on groups of people. Take a group of students into this environment and they will be able to bond together as a group much faster than if they were in a room at school. Even better, throw a challenge like escaping over an electric fence (rope held by teachers) and you get to see problem solving skills, group dynamics, and the shared joy of success.

 The track from that point was on the same path as a small river, so there was no escaping muddy wet feet. As a teacher there is something soothing to the soul in watching students calling out in despair as the mud uncomfortably squelches into their shoes. Revenge for bad behaviour in class. nature is wonderful. We washed our shoes in a stream and then continued on until the trail came to an end. The top wasn’t our goal for today, so we sit like gargoyles on rocks and logs to eat lunch. Turning around and starting down feels hard, I don’t like going down as much as I do going up. Going up feels like adventure and every step brings a better view, so it’s hard not to feel a little failure when turning around. The way down passed quickly and the energy in the group faded out by the last kilometre of the walk. Perfect timing as we reached the big stairs and people started thumping down in comfort. The students no doubt would be heading to the onsen soon. It didn’t end up raining. A good day.

　現代の生活は、仕事であれ、学校であれ、交通機関であれ、屋内で安楽に座っていられることが当たり前になっています。ですから、土曜日の朝に早起きして、13 kmの丘を登り降りするのは大変なことです。まして、天気予報が雨で、ぬかるみで靴が泥まみれになることが予想される日なら尚更です。しかし、人生に楽しみをもたらすには、挑戦的な、日常と異なる、あるいは多少は危険な何かが必要です。そうでなければ私たちは些細なことに囚われ、たいした理由もなくマイナス思考に巻き込まれてしまうでしょう。外に出て自然の中へ入っていくことは、体を動かし、新鮮な空気を吸い、頭をすっきりさせたりするための素敵な方法なのです。降雨が予想されたため、私たちはシューズやレインウエアなどのギアチェックから一日を始めました。続いて、学生たちはウォーミングアップとして、手（と心）をつなぐ「人間知恵の輪」に取り組みました。それから郵便局への道を下り、自転車橋を渡って、新緑の中へ向かうハイキングに出発しました。

　最初の林道沿いからの眺めは、急な崖の上から青い川を遥かに見下ろして非常に壮観です。そして上りに差し掛かります。整備された道路を上ってから私たちは休憩を取りました。私がアウトドアで一番好きなのは、自然環境の中に身を置くことが人間に与える影響です。学生のグループをこうした環境に連れて来ると、彼らは教室にいるときよりも、はるかに迅速にグループとしてまとまります。さらに電気柵ゲーム（引率教員が張っているロープに触れずに、また、くぐることもせずに学生全員がロープを越えて逃げる）といった課題を投げかけることで、学生たちが「問題解決・団結・成功体験」の喜びを共有する姿を見ることができます。

　そこから先は雪溶け水が小川のように流れる道で、泥まみれの靴の中で足が濡れてしまうことから逃がれることはできませんでした。泥水が靴に押し込まれる不快さに絶望して叫ぶ学生たちを眺めることには、教師としての魂を心地よくさせる何かがあります。すなわち、授業中の学生たちのちょっといたずらな振る舞いへのささやかなリベンジ！自然は素晴らしい！ 私たちはきれいな流れを見つけて靴を洗い、再び歩き続けて目標地点に到達しました。今回の目標地点は山頂ではありませんから、岩や丸太の上にガーゴイル（キリスト教会などの屋根に飾られている、モンスターを模した彫像の雨樋)のように座って昼食をとりました。さて、振り返ると下りは大変です。私は、上りほど下りは好きではありません。上ることは冒険のように感じられ、すべてのステップがより良い眺めをもたらします。しかし、振り返って下るときには、少しの失望も感じないようにするのは難しいです。下り道はすぐに過ぎ去ってしまい、学生たちのエネルギーは最後の1キロまでにみるみる消えていきました。私たちが学校の大階段に到着し、学生たちがその快適さにワクワクし始めたときの完璧なタイミングです。学生たちは間違いなくすぐに温泉に向かうでしょう。結局、雨が降ることはなく、良い一日でした。

April 27, 2022 Road to Kanazawa

Hello, my name is Sergelen Sansar, and I came to ICT this year from Mongolia. I’m studying in the 2nd year, which means I studied a whole year online.
 In 1st year before I started taking classes online, I was preparing to go to Japan and really had high hopes to go. As April 1^st, 2021 got closer, my hopes got higher, and eventually the classes started. I was sitting behind a computer more than ever from early morning to evening. Online classes are not as exciting as a classroom. Also, it is kind of hard to communicate because I have the power to mute my microphone and be silent.
 After the Olympics, I thought I might have a chance to go to Japan because Japan was very strict before the Olympics but then the COVID-19 cases increased. I lost hope and felt languish daily.
 I remember studying so hard in January because I did absolutely nothing during the winter break. Most of my projects were on the due date and the final exams were getting close. In February I was at home doing nothing and in March, I did some Japanese language practice. But suddenly, I allowed to enter to Japan in late March.
 I came to Japan just before the school started on March 30^th, 2022. It was great to see mountains covered in snow from the airplane. When the airplane landed in Narita, it felt like I skipped the spring and went straight to summer. The air was hot and humid, and felt heavier to breathe. I rode the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kanazawa which was an amazing experience and it was quick. When I got closer to Kanazawa I saw more mountains and went through more tunnels. The Kanazawa weather felt good because it was cool and kind of similar to Mongolia’s weather, also I saw snow. I met Fumi Sano, a staff member at the Kanazawa station, she took me to the Kokusai Hotel, where I began my three days of isolation. The day before I went to KIT, I was so excited to go out and meet my classmates and teachers.
 When I saw my classmates in the KIT bookstore, I was awestruck. I asked Ryuto, “what was your impression when you first saw me?” He said, “You are freaking tall.”
 Now I’m living with all of them and it's fun to be in a dorm with friends.

　こんにちは、私の名前はセルゲレン・サンサルです。今年、モンゴルから国際高専に来ました。私は2年生ですが、１年間モンゴルでオンライン授業を受けていました。
　オンライン授業を受け始める前は日本へ行けると思っていたので準備をしていました。2021年4月1日が近づくにつれ、私の期待は大きくなるばかりでしたが、日本に入国が出来ないまま授業が始まってしまいました。朝から晩までパソコンに向かう日々が続きました。オンライン授業は対面授業より刺激的なものではありません。また、マイクをミュートにして無音にすることができるので、コミュニケーションも取りにくいです。
　オリンピックが始まる前、日本は新型コロナウイルス感染防止対策の規制が厳しかったので、オリンピックが終わったら日本に行けると思っていましたが、その後感染が拡大してしまいました。私は希望を失い、毎日苦しみを感じました。
　冬休みは特に何もしていなかったので、猛勉強していたのを覚えています。ほとんどのプロジェクトが期日を迎え、期末試験も近づいてきました。2月は家で何もせず、3月は日本語の練習をしていました。しかし突然、3月下旬に日本は留学生を受け入れはじめたのです。
　私は学校が始まる直前の3月30日に日本へ入国しました。飛行機から見える雪がかかった白い山が綺麗でした。成田空港に降り立つと、空気は蒸し暑く呼吸に重みを感じたので、春を飛び越えて夏にスリップした気分になりました。それから東京から金沢まで新幹線に乗車したのですが、とても良い経験で時間はあっという間でした。金沢に近づくにつれ、山が増え、多くのトンネルを通過しました。金沢の天気はとても涼しく、モンゴルの天気と似ていて気持ちよかったですし、雪も見ることが出来ました。金沢駅で職員の佐野 文さんにお会いし、国際ホテルに連れってもらい、３日間の隔離生活が始まりました。隔離が終わったら金沢工業大学でクラスメイトや教員達に会えることがとても楽しみでした。
　隔離終了後、金沢工業大学のブックセンターでクラスメイトを見かけたとき、心が打たれました。私は龍斗くんに「初めて僕を見たときどう思った？」と聞いたら「背がめちゃくちゃ高いね！」と言われました。
　今はみんなと過ごすことができ、寮で友達と過ごすことがとても楽しいです。

April 21, 2022 ラーニングセッション

　こんにちは。白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。
　1年生17名が入寮し、早3週間が経ちました。１、2年生はすっかり打ち解け合い、学生生活に少しずつ慣れてきた様子です。そこで、今回はラーニングセッションのオリエンテーションで1、2年生合同の協力型ゲーム大会が行われましたので、紹介します。

　ラーニングセッションとは、毎週月曜日～金曜日の19時30分～21時30分の間、授業の予習・復習などを行う時間です。ラーニングメンターのアン・イソベル・タン先生、アピラク・サンゲンチャイ先生、ジョムキット・ジュジャロエン先生3名が学生たちの課題をサポートします。また、教員によるサポートだけではなく学生同士が助け合い、お互いに学び合ったりもしています。

 It has been three weeks since 17 1st year students moved into the dormitories, and the 1st and 2nd year students seem to have gotten used to each other and to student life. I'm going to write about the cooperative game competition for 1st and 2nd year students that was held during Learning Session orientation.

 Learning Sessions are a time for students to prepare for and do review for their classes. They are held from 19:30 to 21:30 every Monday through Friday. Three Learning Mentors, Anne Isobel Tan sensei (Associate Lecturer), Apirak Sang-ngenchai sensei (Associate Lecturer), and Jomkit Jujaroen sensei (Associate Lecturer), help students with their assignments. In addition to support from the Learning Mentors, students also help and learn from each other.

　4月7日（木）、2022年度第1回目となるラーニングセッションでは、2種類のゲームが行われました。
　まずは「Spaghetti Towers」という、スパゲッティとマシュマロ（どちらも賞味期限切れのものを使用）を使い、どれだけ高く積み上げることができるかを競い合うゲームが行われました。1、2年生合同の6チームに分かれ、各チームに2束のスパゲッティと約30個のマシュマロが用意されました。制限時間30分の中で作戦を立てながら制作に取り掛かりました。
　安定性を考えながら1個のマシュマロに数本のスパゲッティを刺して慎重にタワーを制作するチームや、マシュマロに1本1本スパゲッティを刺し、バランスも取りつつ高さを重視するチームなど戦略方法は様々でした。ゲーム終了時間が迫るにつれて全チームに焦りが見え始め、タワーが傾き崩れてしまうチームからは悲鳴が聞こえました。最終的には木下チームが1m20cm のタワーを制作することに成功し優勝しました。

　その後「Tea Bag Toss」という、地面に置いたマグカップにティーバッグ（賞味期限切れのものを使用）を投げ入れ、投げた位置から距離を測定し、最も長い距離を競い合うゲームが行われました。各チームにティーバッグが5個用意されました。
　まず学生たちはリビングコモンズの1階と2階（高さ約6m）に向かいました。マグカップを1階に設置し、2階からティーバッグを何度も投げ入れました。時間が経過するにつれ、ただ1つのティーバックを落とすだけではなく、各チームは戦略を練り始めました。ティーバッグを5個まとめて結び、重さを利用し垂直に落とすチーム、ティーバッグを壁にリバウンドさせてマグカップに入れようと試みるチーム、空気抵抗を軽減するためにティーバッグのタグを外すチームなど、様々なアイデアが生まれました。ほとんどのチームは約6mの距離を達成することができましたが、残り1分で草本チームが8m12cm先のマグカップに投げ入れることに成功し、見事優勝しました。

 On Thursday, April 7th, the first Learning Session of 2022 featured two different cooperative games.
 The first game was Spaghetti Towers, in which teams competed to build the highest tower using marshmallows and spaghetti (these foods were expired). The students were divided into 6 teams made up of 1st and 2nd years, and each team was provided with 2 bundles of spaghetti and about 30 marshmallows. The students had 30 minutes to plan and make their towers.
 Strategies varied from team to team. Some teams tried to build the highest tower by using multiple sticks of spaghetti to connect each marshmallow. Other teams tried to build the highest tower by using only 1 or 2 sticks to connect each marshmallow. As the game drew to a close, all teams began to show signs of impatience, and screams of excitement could be heard from the teams whose towers were about to fall over. In the end, the Kinoshita team succeeded in building a 1.2m tower and won the competition.

 The second game was called Tea Bag Toss. In this game, participants tried to toss or drop a tea bag (these were expired) into a mug placed on the ground. If they were successful they measured the distance the tea bag travelled and tried again from a further distance. Each team was provided with five tea bags.
 First, the students headed to the first and second floors of the Living Commons (about 6m in height). Mugs were set up on the first floor and tea bags were repeatedly tossed / dropped from the second floor. As time passed, instead of just dropping a teabag, each team began to develop a strategy. Various ideas were generated, one team tied five tea bags together and used that weight to drop them more accurately. Another team bounced the tea bags against a wall in an attempt to get them into their mug. Still another team removed the tags from their tea bags to reduce air resistance before trying to toss them into their mug. Most teams were able to achieve a distance of about 6 meters, but with one minute remaining, the Kusamoto team succeeded in throwing the teabag into a mug from a height of 8.12m and they won the competition.

　4月8日（金）、「Scavenger Hunt」というラーニングメンターたちが用意した写真をヒントに、校内中に隠されているステッカーを探すゲームが行われました。今回も1、2年生合同の新たな6チームに分かれました。開始の合図とともに我先にと各チームが一斉に走り出し、ステッカーを探し始めました。ここでは2年生が先陣を切り、1年生に校内を案内しながらステッカーの場所を探すという頼もしい場面が見受けられました。
　ステッカーが隠されていた場所は、カフェテリア、教室、体育館など広範囲にわたったのですが、その中でも学生たちが一番混乱していた場所は図書スペースでした。ヒントの写真を頼りに、ステッカーが隠されている本を隅々まで探したため、様々な本の配置場所を十分把握することができたのではないでしょうか。
　集めたステッカーを合わせるとパズルが現れ、一番早く解くことが出来た草本チームには、ラーニングメンターたちから景品としてお菓子が贈られました。

　この2日間のオリエンテーションを通して、1、2年生の仲がさらに深まり、チームで戦略を考え、協力し合うことで、コミュニケーションの重要性を学べたのではないでしょうか。また、ゲームを通して校内のことをよく知ることができ、楽しそうにミッションをこなす学生たちの笑顔が輝かしかったです。

 On Friday, April 8th, a Scavenger Hunt was held to find stickers hidden throughout the school using photo clues provided by the Learning Mentors. Once again, 1st and 2nd year students were divided into six new teams. As soon as the start signal was given, the teams started searching for the stickers. Here the 2^nd year students took on a leadership role and guided the 1^st year students around the school, helping them to find the stickers.
 The stickers were hidden in a wide range of locations including the cafeteria, classrooms, gymnasium, etc... The most confusing area for the students was the library space. The students were able to get a good grasp of where the various books were located as they searched the book shelves for the hidden stickers. To do this the students relied on the photo clues.
 When they put the stickers they collected together, a puzzle appeared. The Kusamoto team solved the puzzle first and received candy from the Learning Mentors as a prize.

 Through the two days of orientation, I believe that the 1st and 2nd year students got to know each other even better. Also, they learned the importance of communication by working together as a team in order to come up with strategies and cooperating with each other. Through these team building activities, students were also able to learn a lot about the school and their smiles shone brightly as they completed the activities.

March 28, 2022 3Dコンテンツ制作プロジェクト

　こんにちは。白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。
　2月の課外活動期間に行われたプロジェクトを紹介します。このプロジェクトでは、アメリカ製３D画像撮影カメラ「Matterport」を使用し、学生たちが校内の撮影を行い、建物をオンラインで閲覧できる3D空間化しました。Matterportとは「リアルな空間を3DVR空間化するカメラ」で、これで撮影した3D空間をWeb上やVRゴーグルを使用し、自由に移動することができるため、いつでもキャンパス見学が可能となります。まずは実際に制作したものをご覧ください。

　実際に出来上がった3D空間を操作するとわかる通り、ポイント間の移動はスムーズにでき、その場に足を運んでいるかのような臨場感溢れる仕上がりとなっています。写真や動画リンクを埋め込むことで、校舎のさまざまな箇所に関連したコンテンツを見せることができます。この３D空間を作成するために、約２週間掛けて、700か所以上の校舎の撮影を行いました。

　このプロジェクトには1年生の泉屋 匠吾さん、柿田 紗蘭さん、橋谷 龍斗さん、三輪 恵万さん、2年生の勝方 正宗さん、酒井 瞭さん、戸塚 裕基さんが参加しました。作成した３D空間は、本校のWebサイトから見られるようになりますが、他にも進学説明会などでの学校紹介で使用する予定です。学生たちは、自分たちが入学前に白山麓キャンパスの施設内でどのような生活が送れるのか、学生寮のレイアウトなど、事前に知りたかったことを思い出しながら、教室班、コモンズ斑、体育館・寮班の３チームに分かれ、それぞれ撮影とコンテンツ制作に取り組みました。
　撮影ポイントにも学生のアイデアを盛り込みながら撮影を進めました。コンテンツ制作では、学生たちが各教室やポイントに取り入れたい授業中の写真や動画、イベントが記載されている白山麓ジャーナル、校内を説明するための動画制作にも取り組みました。
　学生たちが撮影し終え、出来上がった3D空間を楽しそうに探検している様子が印象的でした。Withコロナで国内の移動やキャンパス見学の機会が制限されている今だからこそ、3D空間を利用したバーチャルツアーは、移動を伴わずオンライン上で手軽にキャンパスを見学することができるので、今の時代に非常に有効な手段だと思いました。

 Hello. This is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku office.
 I would like to introduce a student project that took place in February. In this project, students took pictures of the campus using "Matterport," a 3D imaging camera. It is an American camera that converts real space into 3DVR space, and with this the photographed 3D space can be freely navigated on the web or using VR goggles, allowing visitors to tour the campus at any time.   As you can see when you navigate the actual 3D space, you can move smoothly from point to point, and the result is so realistic that you feel as if you are visiting the place. By embedding photos and video links, we can show content related to various parts of the school building. To create this 3D space, the students spent about two weeks photographing more than 700 locations in school buildings.

  First-year students Shogo Izumiya, Saran Kakita, Ryuto Hashiya, and Ema Miwa, and second-year students Masamune Katsukata, Ryo Sakei, and Yuki Totsuka participated in this project. The 3D space they created will not only be available on the school's website, but will also be used to introduce the school at information sessions and other events. The students were divided into three teams (classroom group, Commons group, and gymnasium/dormitory group) and each team took pictures and created content. They remembered what they wished they had known in advance before they came to ICT, such as what kind of life they could expect at Hakusanroku Campus and the layout of the dormitories before entering the school. Each group then began to film and create content about their area.
 The filming proceeded with students' ideas incorporated into the filming points. In content creation, the students also worked on producing photos and videos of classes that they wanted to incorporate into each location, a Hakusanroku Journal article with information about events, and videos about the school.
 It was impressive to see the students enjoying exploring the 3D space that they had created. With life during the COVID-19 pandemic, the opportunity to travel and visit the campus is now limited, so a virtual tour using a 3D space is an easy way to see the campus online without traveling. I thought it was a very effective tool in this day and age.

March 23, 2022 「白金祭の裏話」

　こんにちは。白金祭実行委員長（教員）の伊藤です。2月27日（日）に行われた白金祭について、今回は書かせていただこうと思います。白金祭でやった企画（どれもめっちゃ面白かったし、盛り上がりました！）については、Topicsで取り上げていただいたので、そちらを見てください。（https://www.ict-kanazawa.ac.jp/2022/03/07/17202/) ですので、こちらでは白金祭の裏側について書いてみたいと思います。

　もともと白金祭は「文化祭」＋「オープンハウス」的なイベントをやりたい！と私が思ったところから企画したものです。国際高専ではこれまで「高専祭」という文化祭をやっていたのですが、金沢キャンパスで行っていたこともあり、どうしても白山麓キャンパスの学生にとってみれば、お客さんとして参加するだけのイベントになっていました。そこで、白山麓キャンパスの学生が主体的に参加できる「文化祭」があったら楽しいんじゃないか、と思ったことが理由の一つです。文化祭は参加するより運営する方が楽しい、というのが私の持論で、白山麓キャンパスの学生にそれを味わってもらいたかったのです。
　また、白山麓キャンパスの教職員や学生はエンジニアリングデザインでの地域連携活動として地域の方を数名、キャンパスにご招待して発表を行なったり、近くの小中学校との交流をしたりと、わずかにあったのですが、その他大勢の地域の方々にとっては、「なんだか突然できた黒くて大きな建物に住んでいる人たちで、どうやらあれは学校らしい」くらいにしか思われてないんじゃないか、という思いがありました（言い過ぎかもしれませんが）。それに対して、「私たち国際高専はこんな学校で、こんな学生がいて、こんな活動をしています！」と地域の方、保護者の方など、学校に関わってもらっている方々に知ってほしいと思いました。「オープンキャンパス」は国際高専に入学を検討している中学生が見学に参加するという意味合いが強いので、老若男女誰でも自由に来て見学できる「オープンハウス」としています。

　白金祭にはもう一つ目的があります。白山麓キャンパスのOBOGが白山麓キャンパスに戻って来られる日を作りたい、ということです。国際高専の国際理工学科の学生は必ず２年間白山麓キャンパスで寮生活を送ります。その苦しくも楽しい２年間のキャンパスライフを思い出して、いつか懐かしくなった時に気兼ねなく帰って来られるような日にしたいと思っています。
　白金祭の名前は「白」山麓キャンパスと「金」沢キャンパスをつなぐ「祭」としてつけました。ちなみに、英語では「The Platinum Festival」として「白金」と掛けています。今回の白金祭では国際理工学科の３、４年生が数名遊びに来てくれました。白山麓と金沢をつなぐ役割を少しでも果たすことができて嬉しかったです！

　折りしも新型コロナウィルスが流行し、「高専祭」自体も2年前からオンライン開催となってしまい、学生はPCの画面を見るだけの参加という、味気ないものになってしまいました。実は白金祭も2年前の2020年から計画していたのですが、その時はまだ新型コロナウィルスの流行が始まったばかりで、どんな対策ができるかもわからず開催を見送りました。今回の準備を始めた昨年12月ごろはちょうど第５波と第６波の間だったので、今年こそ外部の方々を入れられるか？と期待していたのですが、2月に入っても収まらないオミクロン株の流行のために、今回も外部の方の参加を諦めざるを得ませんでした。
　本来なら外部の方々に向けて学校・学科紹介の展示やレーザーカッター体験、ドローン体験などのワークショップも企画していたのですが、学生や教職員のみの参加となったため、大階段でのステージ企画のみにしました。でもそのおかげで少ない実行委員、短い準備期間でもちゃんとした発表やステージイベントができたと思います。あまり注目されなかったかもしれませんが、上演中の企画を示す「めくり」を作ってもらって使いました。1年生の柿田 紗蘭さんが全て手書きで「めくり」を作ってくれたので、それも紹介します。どれも本当に素晴らしい力作です。
　今年の白金祭は、その目的の半分くらいは達成できました。しかし、残りの半分、外部の方々に学校を紹介するという目的は来年以降に持ち越しです。来年のコロナの状況は分かりようもありませんが、残り半分も達成できるといいですね。

　学生側の実行委員長である2年生の山崎 史依さんをはじめ、実行委員の皆さんの頑張りで、今回は無事に開催することができました。私は今回の白金祭を通じて、学生の「才能・努力・情熱」を感じることができてとても感動しました。歌がうまい、とか楽器が弾ける、とか腕相撲が強い、とか話すのが上手とか。勉強ができる・できないとは別のところで、それぞれの学生にはそれぞれの才能があり、努力していることがあり、情熱を傾けられるものがある、ということがよく分かりました。ぶっちゃけ、開催前は色々大変で、「来年は実行委員長は絶対やらない！」と誓っていたのですが、こうも輝いている学生を見てしまうと、「来年もいっちょやったるか！」という気持ちになってしまいます。まぁ、来年のことはさておき、学生の輝ける場を作れたのは教員としてとても嬉しく思いました。

 Hello. I am Ito, the chairperson of the Hakukinsai Executive Committee (faculty member), and I would like to write about the Hakukinsai held on Sunday, February 27th. For more information about this school festival, please check the Topics post about it. (URL: https://www.ict-kanazawa.ac.jp/2022/03/07/17202/) It was a really fun and exciting event! In this journal article, I would like to write about the behind-the-scenes part of this school festival.

 Originally, I wanted to have a cultural festival + open house type of event! Until now, we have held a school festival called Kosensai, but it has been held on the Kanazawa campus, so for the students of the Hakusanroku campus students, it was just an event to attend as guests. One of the reasons that I wanted us to hold this event was that I thought it would be fun to have a school festival in which students at Hakusanroku Campus could take part. My theory was that it is more fun to organize a festival than to participate in it, and I wanted the students of Hakusanroku Campus to experience that.
 Also, the Hakusanroku Campus faculty, staff, and students planned to invite a few local residents to the campus to give presentations as part of the engineering design community collaboration activities. There were also plan to have exchanges with nearby elementary and junior high schools. I had the feeling (maybe this an exaggeration on my part) that many local residents thought, “There is a big black building that has suddenly appeared, and people are living in it - and apparently it is a school.” So, I wanted to give the community, parents, and other people involved with our school the opportunity to learn more by telling them “this is ICT, and we have this kind of school, these kinds of students, and this kind of school life.” The term “Open Campus” has a strong connotation of being for junior high school students who are considering enrolling in International College of Technology. This event is more like an “Open House,” where anyone, young or old, male or female, can come and see the school.

 This school festival, Hakukinsai, has another purpose. I want to make a day when alumni of the Hakusanroku Campus can come back to the Hakusanroku Campus. Students of the Department of Science and Technology at ICT must spend two years living in the dormitory at the Hakusanroku Campus. I would like to make it a day when they can recall those two years of hard but enjoyable campus life and return to Hakusanroku Campus without hesitation when they feel nostalgic.
 The name of the festival, “Hakukinsai,” was given to connect the two campuses, Hakusanroku (“Haku”) and Kanazawa (The character for “Kana” can be read as “Kin” in Japanese). In English, it is called “The Platinum Festival,” which is a play on the word Hakukin. A few 3rd and 4th year students from the Department of Science and Technology came to visit us at this year's Hakukinsai. I was happy to be able to play a small role in connecting the 2 campuses.

 With the outbreak of COVID-19, the school festival called Kosensai itself has been held online for the past two years. The students could participate only by looking at their PC screens, which has been a little dull. In fact, Hakukinsai had been planned two years ago for 2020, but at that time the outbreak of COVID-19 had just begun, and we did not know what countermeasures we could take, so we decided not to hold the festival. When we started preparations for this year's festival in December of last year, it was right between the 5th and 6th waves. We wondered if we would be able to include outsiders this year. However, due to the outbreak of Omicron that did not subside in February, we had to give up on the idea of outsiders participating this time as well.
 Originally, we had planned to have an exhibition introducing our school and department, as well as workshops such as laser cutter and drone experiences for outside visitors, but since only students and faculty participated, we had to plan only staged projects on the main staircase. But thanks to this, even with a small number of committee members and a short preparation period, I think we were able to make decent presentations and stage events.
 Although it may not have attracted much attention, we had mekuri (a small paper sign that indicates the project being staged) made by 1st year student Saran Kakita, who handwrote all of the mekuri.  All of them are really wonderful works of art.
 This year's Hakukinsai achieved about half of its objectives. However, the other half, the objective of introducing the school to people outside the school, will be carried over to next year and beyond. There is no way to know what will happen with COVID-19 next year, but I hope we can accomplish the other half as well.

 Thanks to the hard work of the student committee chairperson, 2nd year student Shii Yamazaki, and all the committee members, we were able to hold this year's Hakukinsai without a hitch! I was very impressed by the talent, effort, and passion of the students during Hakukinsai. They can sing, play musical instruments, arm wrestle, and speak well. I could see that each student has their own talents, efforts, and passions, outside of the classroom and studying. To be honest, I had a lot of difficulties before the event, and I thought to myself, "I will never be the chairperson of the executive committee next year!" But when I saw the students shining so brightly, I said to myself, "I'll do it again next year! I am very happy to be able to be a part of this event." Well, putting next year aside, as a faculty member, I was very happy to have been able to create a place where students could shine.

こんにちは、白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。今回は２月に課外授業で行った様々なワークショップについて紹介します。 
 Hello, this is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku office. Today, I would like to introduce some activities held in February.

ワールドランゲージ

　2月８日（火）に外国人教員による特別外国語講座が行われました。アラー先生とナグワ先生によるアラビア語、ハズワン先生によるマレー語、アピラク先生によるタイ語、ドーサフ先生によるフランス語の４つの言語から学生たちは２つ選択し受講しました。学生たちは未知の言語を学べる機会とあって、好奇心でいっぱいでした。講座では簡単な挨拶、名前の書き方、伝統的な遊びを体験し、多様な文化に親しみました。学生たちは普段英語で授業を行っているので、英語以外の言語に目を向ける貴重な機会となりました。

World Languages

On Tuesday, February 8th, special foreign language classes were held. Students could choose two of the following four languages to study: Arabic by Alaa sensei (Prof.) and Nagwa sensei (Prof.), Malay by Hazwan sensei (Prof.), Thai by Apirak sensei (Associate Lecturer), and French by Dorsaf sensei (Prof.). The students were full of curiosity at the opportunity to learn about unknown languages. In the courses, they learned simple greetings, how to write their names, played traditional games, and learned about other cultures. Usually, students take most of their classes in English, so this was a good opportunity for them to learn about other languages and cultures.

英語の日

　2月18日（金）に「英語の日」という英語科の教員とラーニングメンターが計画したゲームや活動を通して英語に触れるイベントが行われました。
　まずは、少人数で様々なゲームが行われました。「Choose your own adventure」という動画を鑑賞しながら物語を選択し、それによりエンディングが変わる選択型ゲーム、お題に沿って漫画を描きながらバトルする「MANGAKA」ゲーム、お互いの正体を探り合う会話型のパーティーゲーム「Spy-Fall 2」が行われました。色々なゲームを英語で体験し、楽しい時間となりました。
　次に「英文句読点ゲーム」が行われました。これは英語の教員によって作成された不完全な英文法に句読点や感嘆符などを付け加え、正しい英文を作るゲームです。正解者は、紙の王冠に句読点や感嘆符などが貼られ、素敵な王冠を作り上げました。また料理が得意なエドワード先生は景品としてクッキーを学生にプレゼントしました。
　その後、「Let‘s Chat」という学生たちが教職員に英語でインタビューし、スタンプを貯めてミッションをクリアしていくイベントが行われました。教職員たちは翻訳機を使ってでも、必ず英語で返答しなければならず、清掃員、警備員、看護師、職員らはこの日のために心構えをしていました。学生たちは教職員に趣味、経験、家族、ICTでの生活について質問し、英語でのコミュニケーションを楽しみました。学生たちは教職員のことを知る良いきっかけになったのではないでしょうか。
　午後からは、体育館で学生と教員の合同チームで障害物競争が行われました。まず「目隠し迷路ゲーム」では、各チームの教員が目隠しをし、学生たちから英語で指示を受けながら前進し、ゴールを目指しました。床にテープで貼られた迷路の道から1ミリでも外れると、スタート地点に戻らければならなかったので、学生たちは慎重に教員に指示を出していました。次に「障害物伝言ゲーム」が行われました。ハードルなど障害物が用意され、先にある英文の記憶をする必要があったのですが、走っているうちに伝言を忘れてしまう学生が続出し、最終的には伝言がうまく伝わらなかったチームが続々と現れました。最後にエドワード先生が制作したオリジナルの「ツイスターゲーム」が行われました。ユニークなポージングが生まれ、笑いが絶えない時間となりました。そして優勝チームには、校長先生から景品としてお菓子が贈られました。
　このイベント終了後、学生たちから「楽しかった！」との声がありました。学生たちは英語を用いた様々な活動を通し、キャンパス内で多くの教職員とコミュニケーションを図れたのではないでしょうか。

English Day

 On Friday, February 18th, an English Day was held by the English Department faculty members and Learning Mentors, so students could participate in English games and activities.
 First, three different games were played in small groups. One was game called Choose Your Own Adventure, in which students made choices in a story while watching a video. Each choice changed the direction of the story so that many different endings were possible. Another game was MANGAKA, in which students battled each other while creating an original manga according to a theme. The last game was a conversational party game called Spy-Fall 2. In this game participants tried to figure out each other's identities. Students played these games in English and had a great time.
 Next was the English Punctuation Party. In this game, students had to add punctuation to a sentence in order to produce a correct sentence. For correct answers, students received cookies from Edward sensei (Prof.), who is an excellent cook, and were able to make a paper crown with exclamation marks and apostrophes pasted on them. Each student made their own lovely crown.
 Later, there was an event called Let's Chat. Students interviewed teachers and staff members in English, accumulating stamps to complete their missions. Staff members had to respond in English, even if they had to use a translator, and the cleaners, security guards, nurses, and office staffs had prepared themselves for this day. The students enjoyed communicating with the teachers and staff members in English, asking them questions about their hobbies, experiences, families, and life at ICT. It was a good opportunity for the students to get to know more about the teachers and staff members
 In the afternoon, a team obstacle race was held in the gymnasium, with teams composed of both students and teachers. First, an obstacle course message game race was held, in which students had to memorize English sentences at the end of an obstacle course, and return to communicate the sentences to their team - hurdles and other obstacles were prepared, but many students forgot their messages while running, and in the end, many teams failed to communicate their messages quickly enough. Next, a blindfold maze game was held, in which the teacher in each team was blindfolded, and instructed in English by the students, to navigate the maze to reach the goal. The teacher had to return to the starting point if they stepped outside the taped path by even a millimeter, so students carefully gave instructions to the teachers. Finally, an original Twister game was created by Edward sensei, that produced unique poses and lots of laughter. The winning team received sweets as a prize from President Barksdale.
 After this event, the students said, "That was fun!". I hope that the students were able to communicate with teachers and staff members on campus through various activities using English.

２年生を送る会

　2月28日（月）に白山麓キャンパスで寮生活を終える2年生の送別会が行われました。まずは1年生から2年生にメッセージカードを送り、2年生は下級生にお別れの言葉を述べました。そして2年間の活動を振り返るスライドショーを鑑賞し、思い出に浸りました。最後に、2年生担任の潟辺先生がお別れの言葉を述べ、2年生のキルパラーニ アニッシュさんによるピアノ演奏と小髙先生の指揮の元、全員で「旅立ちの日に」を合唱しました。
　新3年生では、新たな生活が始まります。今後の新型コロナウイルスの感染状況は予測できませんが、状況が緩和され、少しでも早くニュージーランドのオタゴ・ポリテクニクへ留学に行けることを願います。3年生に進級する皆さんの活躍がより一層楽しみです。

Farewell party for 2nd year students

 On Monday, February 28th, a farewell party was held for 2nd year students who will finish their dormitory life at the Hakusanroku Campus. First, the 1st year students sent message cards to the 2nd year students, and the 2nd year students made good bye speeches to the 1st year students. Then, we watched a slideshow of pictures taken during the two years they were here. Finally, 2nd grade homeroom teacher Katabe sensei (Prof.) gave his farewell speech, and all the students sang a song together accompanied on the piano by 2nd grade student Anish Kirpalani and conducted by Kodaka sensei (Prof.).　
 The new 3rd year students will begin their new life. We cannot predict the future status of the spread of COVID-19, but I hope that the situation will calm down and that they will be able to go to Otago Polytechnic in New Zealand to study as soon as possible.

　いきなりですが、みなさんの学生生活の思い出は何ですか？私は食堂で美味しい日替わり定食を食べることでした！勉強から解放され、食堂で楽しく食事をとることが、唯一の息抜きでした。
　もちろん、白山麓キャンパスで寮生活を送っている学生たちにとっても食事はとても重要です。白山麓キャンパスのカフェテリア「Golden Eagle Cafeteria」では、過去に提供された食事の人気投票が行われました。その中で、人気ランキング上位のメニューが再度提供されました。

  Hello, everyone. I'm Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku office.
  What are your memories of your student life? For me, it was eating a delicious daily set meal in the cafeteria! Having a good meal was the only way I could relax from studying.
 Of course, food is also very important for the students living in the dormitories at the Hakusanroku campus. In the Golden Eagle Cafeteria at the Hakusanroku campus, a survey was held to determine popular meals served in the past. The menu items with the highest rankings were served again.

　「Golden Eagle Cafeteria」では、どんなメニューがあるのか、誰もが気になるところかと思います。日替わりで洋食から和食、エスニックまで、世界各国のさまざまな料理を味わうことができ、寮生活をする上で魅力の一つになっています。実際に私もカフェテリアをよく利用しますが、普段味わうことのない異国の料理を楽しんでいます。ちなみに私は親子丼とグリーンカレーが一押しです。この記事を書いていると、次回、カフェテリアを利用するのが楽しみになってきました。

 I'm sure everyone is wondering what kind of food is on the menu at the Golden Eagle Cafeteria. You can taste a variety of food from all over the world, including western, Japanese, and ethnic dishes on a daily basis, which is one of the attractions of living in the dormitories. In fact, I often use the cafeteria and enjoy exotic food that I would never normally taste. The oyako-don (bowl of rice with chicken and eggs) and green curry are my top choices. As I write this article, I am looking forward to my next visit to the cafeteria.

February 14, 2022 雪合戦

　こんにちは！白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。1月に入った途端、白山麓キャンパス周辺には雪がどっさり積もりました。こういう状況になると、雪合戦したいですよね。早速体育教員のフィリップ・ケザウ先生が、雪合戦場を作ってくれました。

　雪合戦場にはシェルターと呼ばれる雪の壁が作られ、相手の攻撃から身を守ったり隠れながら攻撃したりすることができるようになっています。学生たちは２チームに分かれ、相手チームの出方を窺うようにしていましたが、じれたのか数分後には突撃する学生が現れ、ついには総攻撃、と白熱した戦いとなりました。その後、学生チーム対教員チームの戦いもあり、双方遠慮なく雪玉をぶつけ合いました。教員チームが学生を一人ずつ攻撃していく瞬間が大いに盛り上がりました。学生たちは雪玉を思いっきり投げることで、日々のストレスを発散できたのではないでしょうか。

　Hello! This is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku office. As soon as January arrived, there was a lot of snow around the Hakusanroku Campus. Because of all this snow, we had a snowball fight. Associate Lecturer Philip Cadzow, got a shovel and created a snowball fight field.

　The snowball fighters were given shelters and walls made of snow, so that they could attack and defend themselves from their opponents. The students were divided into two teams and tried to see what the other team would do, after a short period of preparation the battle began. Later, there was also a battle between the students and the teachers, and they had a lot of fun throwing snowballs at each other. The moment when the teacher team attacked the students one by one was very fun. I think the students got rid of a lot of their daily stress through this.
