Hello, this is Rattiya Mebusaya from the ICT office. 
 The first Idea Stage (pre-seed) startup boot camp for ICT and KIT participants, faculty, and staff was held on September 14th and 15th, 2023, at the Hakusanroku Campus. A total of 18 people participated in this year's event, including 1 ICT 4th year participant, 6 ICT 2nd year participants, 3 ICT 1st year participants, 5 Learning Mentors, 1 faculty member, 1 KIT participant and 1 junior high school participant. The two-day boot camp was designed to clarify and inspire the basic ideas about startups for the participants, who were mainly ICT participants and other beginners.

 In order to build a clear vision of a startup for the participants, this boot camp program was built and implemented around the Lean Startup Model*¹ and part of the Pitch Deck*² creation method. Therefore, this workshop began with an introduction to startups, an explanation of the Lean Model Canvas^＊3, the pitch deck creation method, valuable problem solving, understanding users and markets, digging deep into solutions, value creation methods, understanding competitors, and unfavorable advantages, as well as many individual and group exercises and presentation opportunities were included.

*1: "Lean Startup": a method of creating a minimum number of products at a minimum cost and in a minimum number of steps, repeatedly checking customer response to determine the direction of the project, and moving the business forward without waste. The four steps of "hypothesis building," "measurement and experimentation," "learning," and "restructuring" are repeated to clarify market needs. (Also known as a "lean business model.")
 *2: "Pitch Deck": a brief 4-5 minute presentation document to outline the business plan, products, services, and growth drivers to potential investors and clients.
 *3: "Lean Model Canvas": a framework for visualizing and verifying the "hypothesis" in a startup's business model by dividing it into nine elements. A diagrammatic representation of a business model.

　2023年9月14日（木）と15日（金）の2日間に渡り、ICT（国際高専）とKIT（金沢工業大学）の学生、教職員を対象としたアイデア・ステージ（プレシード）のスタートアップ・ブートキャンプを初めて白山麓キャンパスにて開催しました。今回は、ICT4年生1名、2年生6名、1年生3名、ラーニングメンター5名、教員1名、KIT学生1名、その他1名の計18名が参加しました。この2日間のブートキャンプは、ICT学生を中心としたスタートアップに関して初心者の参加者を対象に、スタートアップの基本的な考え方を明確にするとともに、インスピレーションを与えることを目的としています。

　このブートキャンプでは、学生のためにスタートアップの明確なビジョンを描くため、リーンスタートアップ^＊1とピッチデッキ^＊2作成手法の一部を中心としたプログラムを構築し実施しました。そのため、このワークショップでは、スタートアップ入門、リーンモデルキャンバス^＊3の解説、ピッチデッキ作成手法、価値ある問題解決、ユーザーと市場の把握、ソリューションの深堀、価値創出手法、競合他社の理解、不利な優位性などについて解説するとともに、個人やグループでのエクササイズや発表機会が多く盛り込まれました。

＊1「リーンスタートアップ」：少ない費用や手順で最低限の製品を作り、顧客の反応を繰り返し確認することでプロジェクトの方向性を定め、ビジネスを無駄なく進めていく手法です。「仮説構築」、「計測・実験」、「学習」、「再構築」の4つのステップを繰り返し、市場のニーズを明確にします。（無駄をそぎ落としたビジネスモデルとも言われます。）
＊2「ピッチデッキ」：潜在的な投資家やクライアントに事業計画、製品、サービス、成長の牽引力の概要を4～5分程度で説明するための簡単なプレゼンテーション資料です。
＊3「リーンモデルキャンバス」：スタートアップのビジネスモデルにおける「仮説」を９つの要素に分けて可視化・検証するためのフレームワークやビジネスモデルを図で表したものです。

 Day 1, Thursday, September 14th, 2023

 On the first day, Thursday, September 14th, the workshop began with icebreaking*⁴. Participants were first challenged to combine two different objects (e.g., cell phones and agriculture) given to them to create a unique business idea. This was used to soften the hardened brains of the participants and at the same time, it stimulated communication among them. The workshop then began in earnest with a startup concept called Startup 101. The participants were then introduced to what valuable problem-solving is and were given an exercise to think about whether these are problems worth solving. Those issues, which can be small problems that exist around you or big problems that society as a whole is facing, were summarized in one sentence (aka elevator pitch) and shared with everyone in the workshop. A group activity was then conducted in which the group chose one issue to further understand and validate. The issues chosen by each group varied from how to motivate themselves at school, to situational loneliness when eating alone at a restaurant, to the unbalanced nutritional intake of Japanese people.
 The afternoon session on the first day included a lecture on markets, where they are located, how they can be found, and how large they are. This included explanations of TAM (Total Market Size), SAM (Serviceable Available Market), SOM (Serviceable Obtainable Market), and how to research markets and their sizes. The market was then drilled down to the users (target groups) and personas (virtual customers) were created. This is also a method to understand more about the users and validate them in order to create solutions (solutions and what to consider) the next day.
 As mentioned at the beginning of the lecture, after each lecture, the participants experienced the process of creating, researching, and filling in the Lean Model Canvas^*4 step by step. In addition, the participants repeatedly went through the exercise of making a one to three minute pitch (presentation) and receiving a question-and-answer session and comments to enhance the clarity of the information and the image of the business idea.

 *4: "Icebreaking": preparatory activity to facilitate communication with new people and in a tense atmosphere

　初日の9月14日（木）は、アイスブレーキング^＊4からワークショップが始まりました。参加者は最初に与えられた2つの異なるモノ（例えば携帯電話と農業）を組み合わせて1つの物やコトを作り上げることに挑戦しました。これは凝り固まった脳を柔らかくすることにも生かされ、同時に参加者とのコミュニケーションを活性化させるというものです。その後、「スタートアップ101」というスタートアップのコンセプトから本格的なワークショップが始まりました。そこでは価値ある問題解決とは何かを紹介し、参加者はそれが解決する価値がある問題であるかを考えるエクササイズを行いました。それらの問題は、自分自身の回りに存在する小さな問題でも、社会全体が抱える大きな問題でも1つの文章（別名エレベーター・ピッチ）にまとめて、ワークショップに参加している全員と共有しました。その後、グループで1つの問題を選び、その問題をより深く理解し、検証するグループ活動が行われました。各グループが選んだ問題は、学校でのモチベーションの上げ方やレストランで1人で食事をするときの状況的な孤独感、日本人の栄養摂取の偏りなど様々でした。
　午後のセッションでは、市場について学ぶ講義が行われ、市場はどこにあるのか、どのように市場を見つけることができるのか、そして市場の規模はどの程度なのかについて学びました。これには、TAM（市場全体の規模）、SAM（ターゲット顧客の需要規模）、SOM（個別の顧客獲得規模）、市場とその規模の調査方法なども解説しました。そして、市場をユーザー（ターゲットグループ）まで掘り下げ、ペルソナ（仮想顧客）を作成しました。これは、翌日にソリューション（問題の解決策と検討すべきこと）を作るために、ユーザーについてより深く理解し、ユーザーを検証するための手法です。
　冒頭で述べたように、講義が終わるたびに、参加者はリーンモデルキャンバスを段階的に作成し、調査し、埋めていくプロセスを体験しました。また、1～3分程度のピッチ（発表）を行い、質疑応答やコメントをもらうことで、より明確な情報やビジネスアイデアのイメージを高めるエクササイズを繰り返し行いました。

＊4「アイスブレーキング」：初対面の人や緊張した雰囲気の中で、コミュニケーションを円滑にするための事前準備活動です。

 Day 2, Friday, September 15th, 2023

  The 2nd day, Friday, September 15^th, I covered solutions, value propositions^*5, competitors, and unfair advantage. All of these were covered in the morning session, but due to limited time, we limited ourselves to a brief introduction of these topics so that all participants could understand the process and what is needed/what should be considered. Again, each group worked on creating a business model to market their product/service from the problem, user/market, solution, value proposition, competitors, and unfair advantage. Then in the afternoon, they learned more about pitching*⁶ and pitch decks and spent an hour or two preparing both scripts and pitch decks for the final 5-minute pitch:

 Shikada sensei (Prof.), principal of ICT, and Mr. Izumiya, Deputy Secretary General of ICT, participated in the final pitch as guest judges. In the Startup Boot Camp, which was organized for the first time, the participants started with an understanding of startups and learned about the important processes one by one. Due to time constraints, we were not able to touch much on the business and investment part, but all participants were able to learn the basics of startups. In addition, through this camp, we were able to not only provide them with startup ideas but also stimulate their curiosity and make them want to know and do more.   

 Finally, Tossa Mebusaya sensei (Associate Professor) who organized and facilitated this camp said, "There is no word "READY" in startups. We need to believe in ourselves, not be afraid to fail, learn from our mistakes, and be flexible enough to bounce back quickly. And many opportunities exist all around you. It is up to you to take action or not. I urge you to take action.” With these words of encouragement, the two-day camp came to a successful conclusion.
　We would like to thank Tossa sensei and our alumnus Mr. Daiki Masui for organizing and facilitating this event. ICT will continue to provide such opportunities in the future and will continue its efforts to enhance participants' flexible thinking.

　2日目 2023年9月15日（金）

　2日目の9月15日（金）は、ソリューション、バリュー・プロポジション^＊5、競合他社、不当な優位性について説明しました。これらはすべて午前中のセッションで取り上げましたが、時間が限られていたため、参加者全員がプロセスと必要なこと／考慮すべきことを理解できるように、これらのトピックを簡易に紹介することにとどめました。ここでも各グループは、問題点、ユーザー／市場、解決策、価値提案、競合他社、不当な優位性から、自分たちの製品／サービスを売り込むためのビジネスモデル作りに取り組みました。そして午後は、ピッチング^＊6とピッチデッキについてさらに学び、最後の5分間のピッチングに向けて、スクリプトとピッチデッキの両方を1～2時間かけて準備しました。
　
　最終ピッチでは、国際高専校長の鹿田先生と高専事務局次長の泉屋氏がゲスト審査員として参加しました。今回初めて企画されたスタートアップ・ブートキャンプでは、スタートアップの理解から始まり、ひとつひとつ重要なプロセスについて学んできました。時間の関係上ビジネスや投資の部分にはあまり触れることはできなかったのですが、参加者全員がスタートアップの基礎を身につけることが出来ました。また、本キャンプを通じて、スタートアップのアイデアを提供するだけでなく、好奇心を刺激し、もっと知りたい、やってみたいと思わせることができました。最後にこのキャンプを企画しファシリテートを行ったトッサ・メブサヤ先生から、「スタートアップに『READY』という言葉はない。私たちは、自分達を信じ、失敗を恐れず、失敗から学び、素早く立ち直る柔軟性が必要です。そして皆さんの周りには多くのチャンスが存在します。行動するかしないかは皆さん次第です。是非行動してください。」との激励の言葉があり、2日間のキャンプが無事終了しました。
　今回の企画から運営まで取り纏めていただいた、トッサ先生、本校卒業生の増井 大樹氏に感謝するとともに、国際高専では、今後もこのような機会を設けつつ、学生たちの柔軟な発想を高める取り組みを継続していきたいと考えています。

　こんにちは、学生主事の小髙 有普です。
　2023年9月23日（土）、白山麓キャンパス学生有志は課外活動でアサギマダラのマーキングイベントに参加しました。このイベントは白山ろく里山活性化協議会が主催し、白山麓キャンパス前の「道の駅瀬女」横の休耕田で開催され、例年本校の学生が参加しているものです。
　今年は気温がなかなか下がらず、暑い日々が続いていたため、アサギマダラの飛来する時期が遅いようでしたが、イベント前日あたりから少し気温も下がり、開催日に合わすかのようにアサギマダラが舞い降りて来ました。     
　イベントには学生９名が参加し、10時頃から2時間程、アサギマダラにマーキングをしました。学生たちはこれまでに蝶を捕まえる機会が少なかったため、捕獲するのに苦労していた学生もいましたが、参加した学生たちは楽しみながら自然と触れ合う有意義な時間を過ごしていました。今回のイベント活動に興味を持った学生は、イベント以外でもアサギマダラのマーキングを行うことを決めた学生もいました。
　学生たちが多くのマーキングをする事で、アサギマダラが台湾、九州、沖縄などで多く発見されることを期待したいと思います。

  Hello, this is Arihiro Kodaka, Dean of Student Affairs.
 On Saturday, September 23rd, 2023, 1st and 2nd year student volunteers participated in an extracurricular event. The event was marking Asagimadara (Chestnut Tiger Butterfly). This event was organized by the Hakusanroku Satoyama Revitalization Council and was held at a fallow field next to Sena Roadside Station in front of the Hakusanroku campus.
 This year, September was very hot and it was thought that the Asagimadara would be late in coming. However, the temperature dropped a little the day before the event and the Asagimadara appeared as if to coincide with the event date.
 At 10:00 a.m.,7 students participated in the event and spent about two hours marking the Asagimadara. Some students had a hard time capturing the butterflies because they had not had many opportunities to catch them before, but the students who participated in the event had a meaningful time interacting with nature while having fun. Some students were so interested in this event activity that they decided to mark Asagimadara outside of the event.
 I hope that many marked Asagimadara will be found in Taiwan, Kyushu, Okinawa and other areas as a result of the students' marking Asagimadara activities.

 

　





　2023年10月10日時点で、1年生 沖山 琳世さんがマーキングしたアサギマダラが広島県福山市、2年生 水澤 諒也さんがマーキングしたアサギマダラが兵庫県摩耶山天上寺で再捕獲されました！

 As of October 10th, 2023, an Asagimadara marked by 1^st year student Rinse Okiyama was recaptured in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture and an Asagimadara marked by 2^nd year student Ryoya Mizusawa was recaptured at Mount Maya Tenjo-ji temple, Hyogo Prefecture!

　こんにちは。校長の鹿田 正昭です。
　2023年9月9日（土）から9月10日（日）にかけて、白山麓キャンパスで「第10回マイクロマウス金沢草の根大会」が開催されました。開会式で国際高専の校長として開会の挨拶をする機会をいただきましたので、私の専門分野とは全く異なる「マイクロマウス」大会の一部を観戦することができました。これまでにニュース等でマイクロマウス大会があることは知っていましたが、実際の大会を観戦した感想を一言でいえば「参加者の技術の高さに驚愕し、目を見張った」ということでしょうか（時間の関係で最後まで見ることが出来なかったのが心残りでした）。
　大会はマイクロマウス北陸同好会が主催し公益財団法人ニューテクノロジー振興財団の協賛で行われました。第8回および第9回の大会も白山麓キャンパスで開催され、元 国際高専教員（現 金沢工業大学教員）の伊藤 恒平先生を中心に運営されました。今回の第10回大会は伊藤先生に加えて国際高専の久島 康嘉先生や金沢工業大学と国際高専の学生も大会事務局のお手伝いで参画しました。
　国内各地から、年齢も職業もさまざまな多数の愛好者が集われたのですが、今年はコロナ感染症の影響なのかエントリー台数はやや少なめの53台でした。しかし、その分、洗練されたマシンが登場していたのではないかと思います。参加者の皆さんが独自に創り上げたロボットたちが、知識と技術を駆使して迷路の奥深くへ挑戦し、その複雑さに立ち向かう姿勢を存分に堪能することができました。
　次年度は国際高専の学校見学会、オープンキャンパス、オンライン進学説明会等とコラボして大会を実施できれば、国際高専を目指している小中学生に対しても鮮烈な印象が残るのではないかと思いました。また、国際高専の学生には次年度はぜひ挑戦者として参加していただきたいと思います。次年度のコラボ企画に乞うご期待ください！！

 Hello. This is Masaaki Shikada, President of ICT.
 The "10th Micromouse Kanazawa Kusanone Competition" was held at the Hakusanroku Campus from Saturday, September 9th to Sunday, September 10th 2023. I had the opportunity to give an opening speech as the ICT president at the opening ceremony, and was able to watch the Micromouse competition, which is completely different from my field of expertise. I knew about this kind of competition from the news, etc., but if I could sum up my impressions after watching the actual competition in one phrase, it would be that I was astonished and amazed by the high level of skill of the participants (and I regret that I couldn't watch it until the end because of having another plan).
 The competition was promoted by the Micromouse Hokuriku Club and sponsored by the New Technology Promotion Foundation. The 8th and 9th competitions were also held at the Hakusanroku Campus, and were led by Kohei Ito, former faculty member of ICT (currently a faculty member at KIT). At the 10th conference, in addition to Professor Kohei Ito, ICT lecturer Yoshihiro Kushima and students from KIT and ICT also assisted in the competition.
 A large number of enthusiasts of various ages and occupations gathered from all over the country, but this year due to COVID-19 infections, the number of entries decreased slightly, with a total of 53 cars. However, I believe that sophisticated Micromouse machines were entered into the competition. The robots created by the participants used their knowledge and technology to explore the depths of the maze, and the participants were able to fully enjoy the way they tackled its complexity.
 I thought that if we could hold a competition next year in collaboration with ICT school tours, Open Campuses, Online Information Sessions, etc., it would leave a lasting impression on elementary and junior high school students aiming to study at ICT. I would like to encourage all ICT students to take part as challengers next year.
 Please keep an eye out for next year's collaboration competition between ICT and KIT!!

 Kumusta ("Hello" in Filipino)! I’m Krishia Atillo, one of the new learning mentors from the Philippines. I came to Japan in June 2023. This is my first hakusanroku journal entry, and I’m delighted to share my first three months' experience living and working at the ICT Hakusanroku campus.

 I always dreamed about going to Japan and experiencing what it was like—the culture, food, people, etc. Now that I can live and work in Japan, it is such a blessing for me. When I first arrived at Kanazawa station, I immediately went to the famous tourist spot, which was the Tsuzumimon gate, and asked some tourists if they could take a picture of me in front of the Tsuzumimon gate. Since I lived and worked in Thailand for five years and the weather was just the same as in the Philippines, the weather here was a little bit of a shock for me because it's so cold in Japan, but I got used to it as time passed.

　クムスタ（フィリピン語で「こんにちは」）！私は新しいラーニングメンターの1人、フィリピン出身のクリシア・アティロです。2023年6月に日本に来ました。これは私の最初のジャーナルで、白山麓キャンパスで3か月過ごした生活と仕事の経験を共有できることを嬉しく思います。

　日本に行って、文化、食べ物、人々など、日本はどんな国なのか、どんな体験をすることができるのか私はいつも夢見ていました。私は今、日本で生活し働くことができて本当に幸せです。初めて金沢駅に着いたとき、私はすぐに有名な観光スポットである「鼓門」に行き、鼓門の前で写真を撮ってくれないかと観光客に頼みました。私はタイに5年間住み、フィリピンと同じような気候で仕事をしていたので、日本の寒さに少しショックを受けましたが、時間が経つにつれて慣れてきました。

 

I liked how the hakusanroku campus is situate, it's far from the busy city streets of Kanazawa, which I liked since I’m the type of person who prefers quiet areas. The people were all kind and helped me a lot with everything. I enjoyed observing and listening to classes because the professors were all active, knowledgeable, and good at their expert at their own subject matter. The students were also actively participating in their daily activities in class, for example, laboratory experiments in Chemistry.

　 白山麓キャンパスの立地は、金沢の繁華街から離れていて、私は静かな場所を好むタイプなので気に入りました。人々はみんな親切で、色々なことを助けてくれました。教員たちもみなさん活発で、知識も豊富で、それぞれの専門分野の専門性に優れているため、授業を見学したり聞いたりするのがとても楽しかったです。また、学生たちも化学の実験など日々の授業に積極的に取り組んでいました。

 I went to see the one-hour fireworks display called Hokkoku Fireworks 2023 at Saigawa river side in Kanazawa on Saturday, July 29^th. 2023. It was my first time watching a firework display that long and I was mesmerized at how beautiful it was. There were lots of locals and foreigners who went to see the fireworks display. I enjoyed it a lot and took some photos and videos of it!
 I look forward to experiencing many things in Japan in the future.

　2023年7月29日（土）に金沢の犀川沿いで開催された「北國花火2023」という1時間の花火大会に行ってきました。あんなに長い花火を見たのは初めてで、その美しさに魅了されました。花火大会を見に行った地元の人や外国人がたくさんいました。私はとても楽しかったので写真とビデオを撮りました！
　これから日本でいろんな経験できることを楽しみにしています。

　こんにちは。白山麓高専事務室の間加田 侑里です。2023年6月25日（日）から7月1日（土）まで「ICT GLOBAL SUMMER CAMP」を開催しました。このプログラムは2018年と2019年の夏と冬に開催していましたが、新型コロナウイルスの影響で2020年から中止していました。今回は4年ぶりにタイ王国（以下：タイ）の中学生15名が参加し、AIやIoTを用いたデザイン思考やエンジニアリングデザインの手法を活用したプロジェクト型学習を体験しました。

 Hello, this is Yuri Makada from the Hakusanroku Office. The ICT GLOBAL SUMMER CAMP was held from Sunday, June 25 to Saturday, July 1, 2023. This program had been held in the summer and winter of 2018 and 2019, but was suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19. This time, for the first time in four years, 15 junior high school students from Thailand participated in the project-based learning experience utilizing design thinking and engineering design methods with AI and IoT technologies.

　初日は、タイの中学生（以下：生徒）とご家族が白山麓キャンパスに来校し、松下 臣仁先生による「English STEM教育」や「エンジニアリングデザイン教育」など国際高専の特色を紹介した後、キャンパスツアーが行われました。

Day 1, Sunday, June 25th, 2023

 On the first day, Thai junior high school students and their families came to the Hakusanroku Campus. There was a school explanation by Omihito Matsushita sensei and an introduction to the features of the ICT, including English STEM Education and Engineering Design Education. After this, the students and their families took a campus tour.

　まずはアイスブレイクとして、生徒たちは自分の趣味やサマーキャンプへの期待をスケッチし、一人ずつ発表しました。生徒たちは「日本の文化を学びたい」や「エンジニアリングをたくさん学んでタイに持ち帰りたい！」など様々な想いを発表してくれました。その後、ハヤト・オガワ先生による「エンジニアリングデザイン」の導入ワークショップが行われました。生徒たちは3つのグループに分かれ、「最新のオリジナルマグカップ」のデザインを話し合い、それぞれのデザインを発表しました。
　午後には、ナグワ・ラシィド先生による化学実験教室が開催され、「窒素酸化物」や「酸性雨」が公害に繋がることについて実験を通して学びました。その後、フィリップ・ケザウ先生から体育館の使い方の説明を受け、生徒たちはバスケットボールやバドミントンなどをして体を動かした後、白山麓キャンパス内にある「比咩の湯」温泉を利用しました。生徒たちは「今まで行った温泉の中で一番気持ちよかった！」と大満足の様子でした。
　夕食後には、希望者を対象に松下先生指導のもと、オリジナルキーホルダー作りが行われました。各自パソコンで絵柄をデザインし、レーザーカッターを用いて作成しました。参加者はレーザーカッターが自動的に加工していく様子を興味深げに覗いていました。

Day 2, Monday, June 26th, 2023

 First, as an ice-breaker, students drew their hobbies and expectations for the summer camp and presented them one by one. Students had various ideas such as "I want to learn about Japanese culture" and "I want to learn a lot of engineering and bring it back to Thailand!” After that, an introductory workshop called Engineering Design was held by Hayato Ogawa sensei. The students were divided into three groups, discussed about The Latest Original Mug, designed a mug and presented it.
 In the afternoon, a chemistry lab class was held by Nagwa Rashed sensei. Students learned through experiments about nitrogen oxides and acid rain that lead to pollution.  After that, Philip Cadzow sensei explained how to use the gymnasium, and the students exercised by playing basketball and badminton, and then went to use Hime No Yu hot spring located on Hakusanroku Campus. The students were very satisfied with their hot spring experience, saying, "This is the best hot spring I have ever been to!”
 After dinner, students who wished to participate made their own original key chains under the guidance of Matsushita sensei. They created their own design on a computer and made the keychain using a laser cutter. They watched with interest as the laser cutter automatically processed the design.

 

3日目　2023年6月27日（火）

　3日目からはいよいよサマーキャンプのプロジェクト活動が開始しました。午前中はブランドン・ウォルファース先生による「プロジェクトガイダンス」が行われました。今回生徒たちに課されたテーマは以下の2つでした。
・AIやIoTを活用して観光産業を改善するための創造的な解決策を考える
・画像認識のAIモデルを作成する
　まずは金沢の観光産業におけるステークホルダーを見つけ出し、利害関係者となりうる人物を見つけるという課題が課され、生徒たちは金沢の観光地について下調べをしました。
　午後は、東茶屋街や兼六園、金沢城を観光しながら、観光地における課題解決に向けて調査しました。もちろん、金箔ソフトクリームや和菓子を堪能しながら金沢観光も満喫しました。
　夕食後には、日本語講座が行われ、簡単な日本語の挨拶の言い方や自分の名前を日本語で書く練習、日本の歌「上を向いて歩こう」を歌う練習をしました。

Day 3, Tuesday, June 27th, 2023

 On the third day, the summer camp project activities finally began. In the morning, Brandon Wohlfarth sensei gave the students a Project Guidance session. The following two themes were assigned to the students this time.
・Developing solutions to improve the tourism industry by using AI and IoT technologies.
・Developing an AI model for image recognition.
 First, students were assigned the task of finding stakeholders and potential stakeholders in Kanazawa's tourism industry, and conducted preliminary research on Kanazawa's tourist attractions.  
 In the afternoon, while touring Higashi Chaya District, Kenroku Garden, and Kanazawa Castle, the students conducted research to find solutions to problems in the tourist areas. Of course, they also enjoyed Kanazawa sightseeing, and had a chance to eat gold leaf soft serve ice cream and Japanese sweets.
 After dinner, a Japanese language class was held, where the students learned simple greetings, how to write their own names in Japanese, and how to sing a Japanese song called Ue Wo Muite Arukou.

 

4日目　2023年6月28日（水）

　午前中には、前日の観光先で発見した問題点からお店や観光客、建物が抱えていることに着目し問題定義しました。続いて、アピラク・サンゲンチャイ先生指導のもと、AIプログラミングについての講義や演習を行いました。
　午後には、石川県ふれあい昆虫館へ出かけ、「画像認識のAIモデル作成」に向け、昆虫のデータ収集をしました。生徒たちは蝶々やトンボ、バッタ、カブトムシ、その他昆虫を様々な角度から50枚撮影するという課題が課され、時間をかけて写真撮影に取り組みました。石川県ふれあい昆虫館を退館後、白山比咩神社へ向かい、日本の風情を楽しみました。
　夕食後には、後日開催する国際高専生（以下：本校の学生）との交流会に備え、本校の学生たちに向けてタイ語やタイの文化、タイの有名Youtuberなど様々なトピックの内容を話す準備をしました。

Day 4, Wednesday, June 28th, 2023

　In the morning, students defined the problems they had discovered while sightseeing the previous day. Students focused on the problems faced by stores, tourists and buildings. Then, under the guidance of Apirak Sang-ngenchai (Learning mentor) sensei, the students attended lectures and exercises on AI programming.
 In the afternoon, the students went to the Ishikawa Insect Museum to collect insect data for creating AI models for image recognition. Students were assigned the task of taking 50 pictures of butterflies, dragonflies, grasshoppers, beetles and other insects from various angles. Students took their time in taking the pictures. After leaving the Ishikawa Insect Museum, the students headed to enjoy the Japanese atmosphere of Hakusan Hime Shrine.
 After dinner, in preparation for the exchange meeting with ICT students to be held later in the day, they prepared to speak to ICT students on various topics such as Thai language, Thai culture, and famous Thai YouTubers.

5日目　2023年6月29日（木）

　午前中には、観光先で発見した問題点について、解決策をさらに掘り下げ、改善点をまとめ、最終日のプレゼンテーションに向けてポスターを作成しました。
　午後はAIプログラミングで使用する「CiRA CORE」を活用して基本的なプログラミングを学んだ後、３つのチームに分かれて、前日に撮影した石川県ふれあい昆虫館の昆虫の写真を用いて画像認識システムを制作しました。
　放課後には、本校の学生たちとの「第1回 国際交流会」が開催されました。この日は本校の学生たちがタイの生徒たちに日本について紹介しました。本校の学生1名とタイの生徒2名が1グループとなり、本校の学生たちが日本語での挨拶や自己紹介の言い方などをレクチャーし、タイの生徒たちは1人ずつ日本語を発表しました。その後、本校の学生たちは折り紙で手裏剣の折り方をレクチャーしました。

Day 5, Thursday, June 29th, 2023

 In the morning, students further explored solutions to problems they discovered, summarized improvements and created posters for presentation on the final day.
 In the afternoon, the students learned basic programming utilizing CiRA CORE, which is used for AI programming. Then, the students were divided into three teams to create an image recognition system using photos of insects from the Ishikawa Insect Museum taken the day before.
 After school, the "1st International Exchange event" with ICT students was held. On this day, ICT students introduced Japan to Thai students. One ICT student and two Thai students formed a group, and the ICT students gave lectures on greetings and self-introductions in Japanese. And then, 1 by 1 the Thai students demonstrated what they had learned. After that, the ICT students gave a lecture on how to fold a shuriken using origami!

6日目　2023年6月30日（金）

　午前中には、最終日の発表に向けた最終準備としてポスター制作を行った後、フィリップ先生レクチャーのもと、ボルダリング体験会が行われ、ホールド（大小様々な形をした色分けされた突起物）を使った登り方を学び、難易度ごとに分けられた様々なコースに挑戦しました。
　午後には、加賀 伝統工芸村「ゆのくにの森」へ出かけ、金箔貼りを体験しました。生徒たちはトレーに金箔を1枚貼り、竹串で手書きしてデザインしました。金箔に日本語を書く生徒もいれば、アニメのキャラクターを描く生徒など、それぞれ思い思いに型を作り、オリジナルの金箔工芸品を完成させました。
　放課後には、本校の学生たちとの「第2回 国際交流会」が開催されました。この日はタイの生徒たちが本校の学生たちにタイについて紹介しました。本校の学生たちとタイの生徒たちは3つのグループに分かれました。タイの生徒たちは本校の学生たちにタイ語であいさつを教えた後、本校の学生たちは1人ずつタイ語を披露しました。そしてタイの生徒たちはタイの文化や食べ物などを本校の学生たちに紹介した後、タイの生徒たちは日本の歌「上を向いて歩こう」を披露し、国際交流会は終了しました。本校の学生たちは入学してから初となる国際交流となり、英語を実際に活用しながら楽しそうにコミュニケーションを取っているのが印象的でした！

Day 6, Friday, June 30th, 2023

 In the morning, the students worked on their posters as a final preparation for their presentations on the last day. After that, a hands-on bouldering session was held under the direction of Philip sensei. The students learned how to climb using holds (color-coded projections of various shapes and sizes) and tried various courses divided by difficulty level. 
 In the afternoon, the students went to Kaga Traditional Craft Village "Yunokuni no Mori" to experience gold leaf pasting. Students applied a sheet of gold leaf to a tray and hand-drew designs on it with a bamboo stick. Some students wrote Japanese words on gold leaf, some students drew Anime characters - students created their own molds to complete their original gold leaf crafts.
 After school, the "2nd International Exchange event" with ICT students was held. On this day, Thai students introduced Thailand to ICT students. ICT students and Thai students were divided into three groups. The Thai students taught ICT students greetings in Thai, and then ICT students performed Thai greetings one by one. Finally, the Thai students sang a Japanese song called Ue Wo Muite Aruko to ICT students and the international exchange event was over. This was the first international exchange event for ICT students since they entered the school and it was impressive to see them enjoying communicating with each other while actually using English!

7日目　2023年7月1日（土）

　最終日には生徒たちのご家族を白山麓キャンパスにお招きし、「エンジニアリングデザインプロジェクト」発表会が行われました。各チームは観光地で発見した問題を改善するための創造的な解決策を発表しました。発表の内容は下の動画をご覧ください！
　発表後には「画像認識AIモデルコンペティション」が行われました。アピラク先生は、生徒たちが「石川県ふれあい昆虫館」で撮影した昆虫の写真がどれだけAIが認識しているか披露し、認識度の点数が発表されると会場は大いに盛り上がりました！そして生徒たちは「上を向いて歩こう」を合唱した後、鹿田校長から修了証書が手渡されました。最後には、金沢キャンパス「夢考房」の見学をしてグローバルサマーキャンプの幕を閉じました。

　生徒たちは緊張した姿を見せずに堂々と発表していたので、感心しました。今回のプロジェクト型学習を通じて、AIやIoTを活用したプロジェクト活動をチームで創り上げる楽しさを体感できたのではないでしょうか。また、生徒たちは本校の学生たちとの国際交流を楽しんでいる姿も印象的でした。

Day 7, Saturday, July 1st, 2023

 On the last day, the Thai students' families were invited to the Hakusanroku Campus for an Engineering Design Project presentation. Each team presented a creative solution to improve a problem they discovered at a tourist attraction. Please watch the video below to see the presentations!
 After the presentations, an AI model competition for image recognition was held. Apirak sensei presented how well the AI recognized the photos of insects taken by the students at the Ishikawa Insect Museum, and the audience was very excited when Apirak sensei announced the recognition scores! The students then sang Ue Wo Muite Arukou and President Shikada handed out certificates to the participating students. The Global Summer Camp ended with a tour of YUMEKOBO on the Kanazawa Campus.

 I was impressed by the students as they gave their presentations in a dignified manner without showing any signs of nervousness. Through this project-based learning program, I believe that the students were able to experience the fun of creating project activities using AI and IoT as a team. It was also impressive to see the students enjoying the international exchange with ICT students.
